redface
Why did I follow the dragon
Who promised salvation but only brought pain
Why did I abandon my friends
Who were going insane

It was the quest for knowledge
The quest for power
That turned my friendships rotten
No turned them sour

My quest is done now complete
I have lain down my physiological sword
Listen here and now
To my written word

My life has changed
I found my life’s loves
My child and wife came to me
Upon the wings of doves

I hope I can patch things up
With all my friends
Looking around to find
All those loose ends

Irish, Matt, Cory, Kit
Bird, James, Sarah, and Nick
To those friends
I was a major d**k

I hope this is heard in time
Before the opening of the last season’s leaf
I forgot one I was especially mean to
Please forgive me, my friend Keith

There are people I hurt
I am sure I missed
Though before this
Their hearts I have kissed

I never meant to do wrong
But I did so anyway
Did not mean to
But it happened one fateful day

I have made amends with just a few
Of the people I hurt so bad
Please forgive me
Even though this might make you mad

I bare my heart
Tried and true
Told you what I feel
The rest is up to you

You have the makings of two different poems here. One sounds like an epic about a quest and the other an apology. Now, for both I would give you the same advice I've given other poets on here. Pick an image and describe that for us. Choose your words carefully so they mean exactly what you want them to. That's how you start a good poem. Read some epics like Tennyson's Idylls of the King and "Ulysses" and the Odyssey. Then try the epic again. The apology poem you might try picking a poetic form and fitting what you want to say into that. Free verse, what you wrote, is hard to do well and not a good place for beginning poets to start.
