River Tamlin was sitting beneath the full moon, her dark hair in tangles and blue eyes shining--bathing in the soft glow like a flower would the sunlight.
She was "soaking"-- a meditation rite she had perfected since she was a small girl. Like a plant receiving warmth from the sun, River drank the moonlight into her lilthe body, stretching lazily out on the grass like a sleepy kitten, and digging her bare toes into the dew soaked earth. She was at peace here. The turbulant emotions that plagued her during the day were fading, and all that was left was serenity and calm. She felt spent, as if she has been running for miles--yet it was the pleasant kind of exhaustion, knowing that you have pushed your body to it's limit, and now was finally allowed to rest.
Tomorrow however, would be another story. She would have to face the mood swings and feral emotions of the day, the sensual and almost embarrassing behavior that was better left to the wanton thing.
She would make sure she stayed somewhere safe. A place she would not have to worry about someone taking advantage of her....passions. Somewhere she could restrain herself without any unwanted questions arising.
Already she had glimpsed impressions of the various residents of Crosshaven. Most were fearful of some dark-haired witch, and yet others were more concerned with an ancient power. Both seemed dire and potentially chaotic--events she should stay away from if she knew any better--
Yet, she did not.
A ghost of a smile flickered across her face, dainty and shadowed. River gazed at the moon with wide sapphire eyes, the light reflecting deep within. She knew she shimmered there in the glen, that anyone passing by would no doubt be startled at this glowing creature reclining on the grass--dew soaking the sheer cloth of her dress.
She did not care what anyone perceived or thought. She just wanted the last slivers of moonlight to herself.

Ai was passing a small bit of open field, lighted by the full moon. Without much interest, she continued on her way, untill she saw the figure. Some woman, maybe a girl, was stretched out, glowing in the light of the moon.
Ai stared, her attention focusing on this figure, who else wandered around at night like this, without some apparent purpose? She doesn't step forward or backward, she just waits, wandering what that person will do. Hesitant to call out and attract her attention.

River was recovering in the same place, the same spot--from her nasty encounter with the young priest. She kneeled on the dew soaked grass, hunched over in obvious pain. Her shoulder burned like fire, having been pierced completely through by the wicked dagger the priest wielded. She panted for a moment, soaking the last rays of moonlight that she could siphon properly. Of all the nights she had to go instigate violence....what a fool she was. Her lips quirked in a self chiding smirk, her black dress suddenly too thin for the cool evening breeze. She dully sensed another, but jabs of torment kept her from acting. Let whomever it was stare at her all they wanted....it mattered not.

He had been sitting there for the good part of an hour making notes on his journal. He loved this place it seemed as if the sky was clearer and the stars brighter in that very spot. Perfect for what he called class material research, of course it was just an excuse to execute one of his favorite pass times, stargazing. He was very thankful for his role as the astronomy professor in the Crosshaven university for it allowed him moments like this in blessed solitude just he and the heavens above.
He propped himself up on his elbows his journal on his chest raising and falling with every breath he took. The rustling he heard near to him awoke him from the wonderful visions of stars which danced before his eyes. He turned standing hastily his journal falling to the ground beside him. He strained to look through the veil of night to the source of the sound and a dark figure met his eyes. A female figure? He walked closer to her cautiously but inevitably curious. When he was close enough he noticed the figure hunched over panting. His walk became a clumsy jog over to the figure in obvious need of aid.
"Are you alright?" he asked and not being one to be overly cautious fell to his knees beside the girl putting his hand softly on her back trying in vain to see her face for it was obscured by the ebony of her hair.

She jerks from his touch as if burned, scrambling away from him with a feral snarl upon her lips. She is like a wounded dog, all too eager to bite the hand that offers assistence. River peers at him through the dark curtain of her long wavy hair, suspicious and wary. Her eyes are eerily luminescent, the sapphire glow mimicing the fading moonlight above.
"Do not persume you can touch me....I did not give permission for your hands!" Her pants are ragged and strained, and she also seems a little dazed, not quite in touch with the reality around her...

He retreats his hand immediately stunned at her reaction for a passing moment. Not only was she hurt but she was scared a very dangerous combination for any human being. His mind raced as to what would be the best approach in such a situation. His kind blue eyes locked with hers, very quickly he decided that no matter what move he made from that moment forth that would remain constant.
"You are right," he begun as he rose his arms slightly, "a gentleman should never touch a lady with out her permission." He spoke slowly but in a clear warm voice, his accent, a dominating english with a tinge of Irish and an unknown third, thick but very pleasant. His eyes still locked with hers he began to take of his jacket one arm at a time and trying not to make any sudden movements. "A terrible and unforgivable lack of manners on my part" he continued as he placed his jacket on the ground before him trying to make himself look as small an unthreatening as possible. He needed to gain her trust at the very least put her a little at ease.
He rose his hands slightly making sure she saw every movement he made, then put them behind his back. "There we go, poppet, problem solved. I will keep my hands to myself." He smiled softly warmly as he weighted a few moments for her reaction his eyes silently pleading with hers to trust him.

She glowers at him for a moment, seething with unwarrented rage. Then suddenly the anger dissipates, and she tilts her head in a childlike manner, her bright eyes traveling his form with curiosity. River cradles her shoulder, blood drying now and leaving crusty trails upon her pale skin. The moonlight did half the work, but the magic was fading now, she had waited too long while playing with that priest. The healing was only half finished.
She scoots a little closer to him, sniffing the air in hesitation. She seems wild and unstable, her moods swinging like a sporadic pendulum. She tries to read the surface thoughts drifting from his mind, but they are like invisible feathers--too wipsy to catch. River then decides to remain in her crouching position, too nervous and alarmed to flee from this stranger. She cringes a little, her tangled hair still dangling around her dirt smudged face. ((I don't know your gift..or who you are .. sweatdrop I tried looking for you, but couldn't find any info. I hope you know what you are getting into...River is a dark and unstable character! (but not without periods of normalcy and tenderness thrown in) Please see thread here and the introduction thread for more insights about her if you need any. http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=1385267&page=3))

He has picked up her scent, and made his way discreetly down the path. When he approaches, he is very careful not to make his presence known. He wants to sit and watch her for a while.
He finds some twisted branches, and his coat, black aganst their black, keeps him hidden. He watches in silence, with a smile on his face.
He wounded her well. He thinks about the story of Beowulf, and the bloody monster crawling back into its lair to die. He tilts his head, eyes following her moon-kissed curves.

She jerks her head toward an unseen presence, something that twinged in her mind like squeezing hands. The man before her was forgotton for a moment as she tried to sense who was watching them....A female...her scent dancing on the wind...ancient magics rolling like wavering breeze. And then another....
Surely....it was not him. River shudders, her eyes darting to and fro like and frightened animal. If she was twitchy before, she surely was almost hysterical now. Her dress rode up one slim thigh, bunching into a formless mass around her hips. She was bare foot still, her pale toes stained green from the dew soaked grass. She hung her head down low, rolling her sapphire eyes toward the man in front of her. She sensed nothing about him... nothing! What was wrong? Everything was wrong! River grits her teeth to keep them from chattering. Too much wasted time....like rubies falling on the floor...minutes of time like bells ringing....Where would she go? What should she do??

The coils inside him tighten when he watches her react. He is even more pleased with the fact that he's helped to put her in this state. So long as he is unseen, he will remain there. He will watch her for as long as he can.
Cameron never has done any soul-searching. Never questioned his identiy. Never read the horoscopes. Never emulated anyone. Never tried to find out what had made him the way that he was. The pivotal moments of his existence were just like this-----sitting in obscurity, watching things twitch from the damage he had done to them.
Well... it wasn't boring. But it wasn't fulfilling either. Everything about this female made him want her more. Every new gasp, gesture, or movement. He just couldn't take his eyes off of her.

Ai watched bewieldered, that man was with the strange woman now, but not only that, the woman was frantic. Ai knew better than to come down and interfere, yet her curiosity was getting the better of her logic. "What's the harm," she smiled to herself, feeling quite at home, "if chaos comes, it's always welcomed with me."

(( Yes I have been horribly naughty and have not had time just yet to post on the introduction thread. His power will not make itself know for a time so no worries about that, All that is known so far is that he is professor in the university and a fan of Mike's cooking. I read up on River... seems like a wonderfully complex and interesting character can't wait to get lots of head aches over her (oh and i liked serenity too) ))
Attentive as he was to even her slightest gesture he saw her grow even more restless, but looking at her eyes he was pretty sure he was not the cause of this. He slowly retreated leaving a large gap between himself and his jacket. "At the very least I know you are cold" he began to speak in the same calm tone, "take my jacket." He knew that if he were to get close to her she might run of or get agitated once more and throwing it to her might insult her once again. He decided it was best for her to get it if she wanted. He could now see the wound on her shoulder he felt it imperative for her to trust him. His eyes still locked on her he spoke once more " do you wish to get out of here, go some place warmer?" It was a gamble and he wished she would not take it the wrong way but it seemed that the place itself was making her on edge.
