Sorry, I'm going to use this guild to advertise this a little bit. Already made mention of it, but I do believe it is related. I'm a story teller at Folk Festivals. I love old stories, legends, ect. Well, from my love of old fairy and folk tales, I've written a script that I've been producing and directing.
It's more or less a deconstruction of stories, taking popular archetypes and turning them on their heads for a a dark comedy.

Half Fish is a story about two scam artists who are selling what they claim to the the embryos of mermaids. Claiming them to be a far east delicacy, they make money off the ignorant saps of the world. Unfortunately for them, mermaids are real. One in particular doesn't like the idea of fetuses being harvested for profit.... Until she learns it's all just the truth.
We've spent a lot of time and money trying to create the "look" of the film, which we won't shoot until late Summer.
I've taken popular con artist.... Or, the two con artist archetype. I've always loved that. For those who don't understand how this works, you have to con artists, one with all heart and imagination, the other sort of serious and business minded. Road to El Dorado, Brother's Grimm, heck, even the Van Damme Street Fighter movie. Mine are Maxwell and Jerome. Usually these people are good natured scam artists. While they may be the protaganists, it's very clear that they ARE criminals in my story.
And, of course we have the mermaid. She doesn't have the vanity one would associate with mermaids. In fact, her dress is designed to be very bare bones and efficient. She's very direct. I wanted to give her a much more rugged beauty. She's not a princess, she's half fish....See what I'm getting at? And, while not a killer, does seem to have a taste for flesh.
