Edon sat beneath one of the great oaks, her blank book sprawled out in her lap and her writing utensils close at hand. It really was a perfect day, the sun streaming down through the leaves, warm and comforting against her fur and accompanied by a light, airy breeze that brushed fondly against her cheeks. It was a perfect day....for anything but writing.
The warm sun and cool breeze was just too inviting for Edon to settle her mind down on the story before her no matter how hard she tried. "I'm never going to finish this," she muttered with a smile and a sigh of defeat and leaned back against the tree trunk to watch the clouds drift, shutting her book so the pages wouldn't get too ruffled in the wind.

Ezra opened one eye and peeked at Damian next to him. "Hey, Damian," he whispered, "Have you reached the spiritual world yet?"
Damian sighed. "No, Ezra, not yet. I need quiet to become in tuned with the world on the other side of the veil." he said, his eyes still closed.
"Right you are, my good chap. Terribly sorry." Ezra said before closing his eyes again. Together Damian and himself has been sitting outside and meditating. At first Ezra thought it would be fun. . . but after ten minutes nothing had happened. "Hey, Damian." he whispered again.
Damian groaned and opened his eyes. "What is it Ezra?" he asked as he rested his chin in his hand. He had heard Ezra say that he was interested in ancient ways and in spirits so he had invited him to meditate with him. Now he was regretting his decision.
"I was just thinking. . . What if the ether veil was broken? Maybe that's why it won't open up." Ezra said, now opening his eyes too.
"No Ezra, the ether veil is perfectly fine. We just need to be calm and quiet. . . Patience is valuable too." Damian said.

The exchange between Ezra and Damian caught Edon's ears. Meditation, huh? And piercing the ether? Sure leekozri were in tune with nature, but wasn't that stuff just for fairy tales and fantasy? Still, Edon's interest had been piqued. She stood up and brushed herself off taking her book with her and holding it close to her chest as she walked over to the two. "Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt, but I couldn't help but overhear your conversation," she said darting a furtive glance between the two of them to gauge how welcomed she might be. "Would you, uh...mind some extra company too terribly?"

Damian looked up and smiled at Edon. "Why hello there, Miss," he said with a soft smile. "We would be happy to have you join us." He patted a spot of ground nest to him.
"Ooooh! A specimen of the opposite gender has come to inquire about joining in our activities. She seems hesitant, but warm heated." Ezra said blinking up at Edon with a big grin on his face.
Damian looked at Ezra and sighed, but he smiled too. "Ezra seems to like you, what is your name, Miss? I am Damian." he said as he looked back at Edon.

Edon smiled and chuckled lightly, taking the offered seat between the two of them. "I'm Edon, it's nice to meet you Damian, Ezra," she said offering a hand to each of them in turn. She seemed relaxed and relieved now that she had been welcomed so kindly by the both of them. "So what was this I overheard about meditation and the 'ether'?" she asked rather openly. She did seem genuinely interested, if perhaps not for the reasons the two might think.

"Yes well see, I meditate to clear the mind and become in tuned to everything around me. Including the spiritual world. If one can achieve breaking the barrier and reaching the spiritual world some call it "Crossing through the ether veil." since it's like walking through an invisible wall or doorway." Damian said after shaking her hand.
"Yeah! I thought it sounded like fun so I wanted to try!" Ezra said excitedly. Then he leaned closer and squinted his eyes at Edon. "You want to try, Edon, yes?"

Edon listened intently as Damian explained. So intently that when Ezra leaned forward to squint at her she leaned back a bit in surprise. She recovered herself quickly though waved a hand to emphasis as she said, "Oh, no...I'll just watch, really. The only thing I'd ever be good at meditating on is the next plot twist for one of my stories," she said with a sideways grin and a chuckle. "I'm sure curious what it's like, though, and furthermore what do you both hope to accomplish by crossing this ether veil? What's on the other side?"

"I really don't intend to cross. It would be a welcome surprise if I did, but I mostly meditate simply to clear the mind and become in tuned to that which is around me." Damian said as he settled himself back into his meditating position.
"I intend to cross into the unknown, my good sir and madam! Then I can finally pay back those Nargarlians for taking my underwear!" Ezra said.
"E-excuse me?" Damian said blinking at Ezra. Never before had he heard such things. What was a Nargarlian? Why did Ezra believe by crossing into the spiritual world he could. . . do whatever he was trying to say?
"Oh it's a very long story. Tis a thrilling chapter in my life! I shall tell you of it in due time, if you still interest me. Now shush! I need quiet!" Ezra said before closing his eyes."
Blinking Damian turned to Edon and gave a small shrug before he too closed his eyes for meditation.

"Nargarlians?!" Edon said in surprise thankfully managing to not sound incredulous of it. "Well I should very much like to hear this story of yours sometime," Edon said with a smile and a quiet chuckle. It would be good, imaginative material for her books perhaps.
She shared that look with Damian and then settled down herself in the quiet, but instead of closing her eyes to meditate, she took out her writing utensils and begin scribbling a paragraph down on the page. All this talk about meditation and the ether had sparked some ideas. Fervently Edon began to write.
The group sat in a circle and joined hands as they were instructed, breathing slowly and becoming more and more still and quiet as the moments passed. You could almost hear a pin drop the silence was so deafening. For many long moments they sat this way, each focusing and honing their mind on the goal at hand, to cross into another realm. They knew that danger awaited them on the other side, but it had to be done...
As Edon continued to write, the sun sparkled brilliantly off her blue eye catching it just so like the light catches a glistening diamond.

Damian heard the scrithing and scratching of a pencil. Taking a deep breath in he pushed the sound from his mind. He could still hear it, but it was now a far off sound. His breathing became softer, but deeper. He could feel the sunlight and its energy along with a slight breeze. Slowly he was falling into a deep state of consciousness.
"This method takes much too long!" Ezra said announced. He hopped up onto his feet and gazed around. "No, no, no. If this meditation was a company it would be losing income from it's expenses. Yes, I do believe that this is not the path for me. Very nice for a nap, but not for work."
For the first time in a very long time Damian wanted to scream. He slowly opened his eyes and looked up at Ezra. "I'm sorry for wasting your time." he said before sighing and rubbing his head. After this experience he's need to drink some tea to rid him of this headache.
"Oh my time hasn't been wasted, good sir!" Ezra said happily. "No, no, dear me. That's not what I meant at all! I simply believe their would be better methods for my brain to work out a problem. Like. . . puzzles. Oooh I do love a good puzzle!"

Ezra's sudden announcement startled Edon from her concentration and this time she jumped with a yelp, her free hand grabbing for the closest thing available, which happened to be Damian's arm, as she leaned away from the source of her startlement, which happened to be Ezra. The contact was brief as once Edon realised the source of the noise she quickly let go of Damian's arm with a flush of embarrassment and an apologetic look tucking her hair back behind her ear and sitting back up straight. She glanced back to Ezra after a moment. "Well surely there are other ways. Have you tried anything aside from meditation?" she asked as she pulled her book and pencil back to her. The scare hadn't been severe, just a sudden surprise. Nothing she wouldn't get over giving her heart a moment to calm.

"Nope!" Ezra said with a big grin on his face. Then he looked up at the sky. "I think I shall go find this other method and leave. I must be a terrible inconvience to you. . . Such a very blue sky." Then with that he turned around and walked off. "Farewell, I hope we meet again!" he called out with a wave.
Damian blinked when Edon had grabbed him, but he could understand her surprise. Then he looked back at Ezra as he began to walk away. "Good bye." he said with a small nod. Then he sighed and stood up. "Well my brain is quite muddled after spending a morning with him. Would you like to join me for tea, Edon?" he said as he looked down at the female Leekozri.

Edon tried her best to hide her embarrassment at the situation behind a smile and a wave to Ezra. "Goodbye, Ezra, and good luck!"
As Damian offered tea, Edon stood up beside him. "That actually sounds like a wonderful idea, and I would be delighted. Where to?"

Damian smiled and said, "My house is just over there." He pointed a claw over towards a near by hill. "I have Jasmine, Oolong and Green tea at the moment." he said as he began to walk.

"Jasmine tea sounds nice," Edon said with a smile. She hugged her book to her chest in one arm as they walked. "So I have to ask, how long have you and Ezra known each other?"
