Intro:
The following is an example of combat.
Note the layout used for recording actions, active powers, damage, etc when taking part in combat yourself.

This battle will take place between both Wolf and My own character at PL 1 both which have accumulated 22pp.

In this hypothetical fight neither character has run across each other yet.

Note as of March24th 2009
I forgot that mind control, when it was used in this fight, requires a power check of 1D20 + Rank to set it's DC.
In the fight I instead had assumed it was 10+rank, note this error for future use of mind control if you read this example.

Note as of April 21st 2009
Do to the new update the damage posts have been updated to show recovery time left for bruising hits. It wasn't wrong, but this should help clarify things for players in combat arguing "when" they recover from a bruised hit without having to go back and count the rounds since they took the damage.

Sykes sat overlooking the city on the out cut of a large billboard a good two hundred feet in the air. How he had scaled the surface was unknown as the ladder was currently pulled up.
His large globe like eyes scanned the streets, looking for potentials to recruit to his otherworldly carnival of freaks.

As the cold wind blew by, his jacket tails fluttering in the wind, Sykes remained calm a large grin never leaving his odd face as the top-hat above it's head licked it's own rim in anxiousness, the large gaping mouth making it seem as if the hat itself where alive.

Eclipse had just finished a meal when it moved cautiously to the open window it had entered through and sent out a pulse of it's sonar to find another target to attack. It's life was for the most part fighting and eating and as such it had little care for who or what it attacked.

Eclipse sensed that something was nearby and as such activated it's sonar and it's natural blending in order to begin stalking this new entity. The only impression it had was that one or more somethings were in the area and potentially dangerous. It would stick to the shadows so that even if it's blending broke because it was attacking it's natural black coloration would assist it in finding and approaching whatever was out there. Once it's sonar and stalking abilities were active it would move out onto the wall and along the shadows of the building as it searched for it's target.

Once it’s prey is found and it attacks the blending effect from it’s stalking disappears entirely.

The night seemed quite, not even the hum of hoover transports from A.S.E.A. seemed to be around, just the crowds of people below enjoying the night time entertainment.
Sykes remained perched on the billboard, his eyes still scanning the area with a fine comb hoping to find that one special something that he could take back to his dimension... and cut into pieces to re-assemble at his own whim.

Sykes then spotted it, a strange creature of obvious alien origin creeping in the shadows, his eyes saw right through whatever camouflage his body had do to his insanities awakening of psychic presences.
"Well then, WHAT do we have here? A little beasty looking for a midnight snack no doubt. Well I can sate your appetite with your own blood on the concrete!" he said as his eyes flared up in an attempt to wrestle control of the creatures mind.

Sykes often thinks many would be brilliant for his show and thus gives them a test run by making them the main star. They're mind is overcome with his whispering rants as visions of torment run through their head. In mere moments he gains control of their bodies and commands them to do as he commands.
Though when doing so their eyes resemble Sykes, large white orbs of brilliant light making it quite apparent that they are under his thrall.
Each resist check failed grants the user +1 on further attempts to resist a specific application of mind control.
Each successful resist grants +1 on all further attempts to mind control a foe.
Note this means if you fail 3 times your fourth resist would be +3, if you then succeeded you'd loose the +3 but have +1 to resist being mind controlled further by the Sykes.

Eclipse felt the slightest pressure on it's mind and shook it's head as it worked to shut out the noisome pressure. It did not understand concepts such as psychics and as such knew little more than it 'heard' something in it's mind.

Not knowing where the unfamiliar pressure had originated Eclipse moved to the nearest window and broke it with it's hands before slipping inside the second room and moving to the floor of the darkened room while using it's sonar to try and locate anyone within. It would then move to one side of the window and turn it's head to face the opening while waiting for it's sonar to stabilize enough to home in on any unusual people.

Sykes watched as the creature crawled into a building, "What? Leaving before the show even gets started? Well thats just not acceptable" he said leaning forwards as he began to fall quickly off the two hundred foot drop, he fell quite a distance before a flash of purple light caused him to vanish and re-appear on the roof of the building the creature had crawled into.
"Perhaps some new entertainment is needed, I don't like to walk into the stands after all" he continued, babbeling to himself as if in the center of some ring showing off to an audience that didn't exist.
As he snapped his fingers a rip in the fabric of space opened near him, a strange purplish light coming from it.
Out stepped an imp like creature, it's body crackling with energy.

Sykes can move himself, one passenger and 100 pounds to his Carnival dimension as a full round action.
This can also be used as an alternate power to fold dimensions allowing the user to step through and teleport Sykes and up to 100 pounds up to 100ft, as a move action. He must be able to accurately sense or know especially well the places he teleports to, though upon exit he can change his velocity and direction effectively stopping himself from falling or otherwise continuing former movement.
Using this power in any manner creates large glares of purplish light that are quite noticeable.

Sykes can summon up to two different freaks, and if he is struck may spend a luck point in order to have any of the freaks in range of the enemies attack that where visible take the hit for him.
Though while summoning the freaks a bright flash of purplish white light emanates from the dimension they where pulled, making it quite obvious.

Battle Notes for Example: Note the building drop was to far for Sykes to teleport since he was already two hundred feet up (I assumed it was a low building). So instead of just teleporting then falling and taking falling damage, I fell and used the natural fall distance then teleported the remaining. If I hadn't had velocity control though I might have been in big trouble.
For those reading this example make sure to often note your positioning as the environment around you can make a huge difference in battle do to the ability to take falling damage, knock people through walls, stealth, etc).

As Eclipse waited in the room it moved up the wall and to a corner of the ceiling not in a direct line of sight from the door but close to the window so that it could get a jump on anything that entered the same way it had. It assumed that the mental pressure had originated from outside and would follow it in.

However it is unable to move at full speed while blending and does leave a subtle impression on it’s surroundings making it easier to notice by those already aware of it. Once it’s prey is found and it attacks the blending effect from it’s stalking disappears entirely.

"Move in there and light up a smile on that things face" Sykes said, the small electrical creature dropping from the roof onto a scaffolding and then down into the window as it looked around trying to find the beast. It's flesh gave off a slight humming sound and a bright blue light, though not one that extended far from it's body.

If successful I would have retained my def against his attack, if not then I obviously wouldn't.
Either way on my move action my turn essentially "went on pause" for wolf to use his "readied" action. After his readied action is played out I may finish my turn with whatever actions I had left at the time (be sure to NOTE which actions you have when this happens and you know a foes readied action will interupt your turn.
Also note that doing this can change the initiative order as wolf now would go before me, if there where several other players turns beneath us and wolf had been before all of them, his spot in initiative would be moved just above mine.

When Eclipse heard a humming and saw the freak that had been present when it had fought the Hey in the machine enter it realized that it was being hunted at the moment. With narrowed eyes it tensed it's body and slipped down the wall and to a point just in front of the window before lashing out with one arm at the freak's ankles in an attempt to trip it out the window it was coming in. It was also going to attempt to use it's bulk to prevent the creature from coming into the room so that it would have difficult footing to deal with as well.

The Imp saw the creature suddenly jump from the ceiling, it's leg quickly swinging out in a sweeping motion as it attempted to trip him. Quickly the imp reached up for the window's ledge, attempting to hold on tightly and keep it's footing as it was far to late to dodge the blow.

The hit roll means he connected, now he basically uses the opposed roll to see if he can make the minion loose it's footing whilst the minion attempts to... well... not be tripped.

This is whats none as a reflexive action, it's not my turn however my opponents action has prompted it neccessary for me to attempt to resist.
In other words, I don't get to choose my action nor have any actions like on a standard round but re-act in only the limited ways I am available to according to the combat rules.
Generally this just means making a saving throw of some sort, though some powers are meant to be used reflexively for just these situations.

In this case, there is no "set" DC for me to overcome on a trip, instead whomever gets higher on their roll determines the outcome.
--Last note, notice in his rp example I can't "jump over" or "dodge" the attack since it already connected, at this point he's just trying to keep from falling over.

As Eclipse swiped at the freak it felt a painful tingle on it's extended hand before it drew the appendage back and away from the freak.
