It seems to me like everyone is trying to be different. I mean that in the positive way, trying to be themselves and not some industry puppet, but if everyone is trying to be something else, doesn't that make them similar? Most people will act/buy things to prove that they are their own person. I find that confusing, how can you be different if you, like everyone else trying to be different, buy from Hot Topic. Now all that's happened is that the big corporations have started to sell all the shitty little wrist bands/buttons/etc.
How do you express yourself? Do you feel that you can do so by acting a certain way or buying certain things?

Doing something that a lot of other people do is kinda secure. You know you have backup from people acting like you.
Normally everbody does things all the others do.
For example wearing clothes.
One way to show your uniqueness is to live your life like you want it.
I don't think it's wrong to copy others if you like it.
Why should I reinvent the wheel if some else already did?
I'm me by copying things from others that I like and inventing things for myself where I feel like doing so.
It's a balance between security and freedom. If we want to be more secure we have to give up some freedom and vice versa.
And to answer the question:
I express myself by acting in a certain way and wearing clothes I like. (it's funny to sit in a room with hundreds of people in black jackets beeing the only one with a red one whee )

I buy what I like.
I shop mostly at thrift stores or dumpsters.
