This discussion goes through episode 14 of R2 at LEAST, so expect spoilers if you're not up to that point.
So I watched episode 13 of R2, at the end of which, of course, Shirley is killed by Rolo (I warned you about the spoilers!). Afterwards, I started thinking about how Lelouch would react to this, thinking he would be driven to despair by the loss of his now closer than ever relationship with Shirley.
But boy was I wrong. Episode 14 rolls along, and he's acting completely differently from what I had expected. I understand the desire to get rid of Rolo at that point, but I didn't really think he'd skip mourning for Shirley altogether.
Anyone else have some thoughts about this?

He always needs to focus on what's strategically opportune, and for that he can't really afford time to mourn. But I think his way of mourning is by planning revenge for whoever killed that person, in this case Rolo. I mean, if you watched when Lelouch tried to blow Rolo up, you'll see what I'm talking about.

It wasn't because it was stratigically opportune. If it was, he would have secured Shirley and waited until Lelouch got there because Shirley could have possibly been an asset.
Rolo killed Shirley selfishly because she mentioned she wanted Lelouch to live happily with Nunnally. If she never mentioned Nunnally, she might have survived. Selfish little brat...

I don't think Lelouch will ever forget about Shirley-never. After all, he cried sooo much at the end of episode 13- that meant something. He just didn't want Rolo to know how he felt and about how he's always hated him.

*headdesk* Oh god, I thought you guys were talking about ROLO. D'oh, I feel so stupid...
But yeah, Lelouch definately was attatched to Shirley. He cared about her so much that he was actually planning to tell Shirley the truth after the war was over...it's such a shame he didn't get the opportunity to actually do so.
I can see why he decided to avenge Shirley in such a way. After all, his way of doing things IS to make the best out of the situation (taking advantage of Euphy's geassed state, atoning for the spilled blood by spilling more blood)

13 was probably one of my least favorite in the series... but it still hits my top ten for some reason...
Anyway onto 14. Lulu is a highly logical person and emotions are usually just disctrations to him. Thus he is able to put on any emotional mask he may need to further his own ends.
Not to say he is emotionless, his desire for revenge on Rolo says he as alot of emotion. Its just that Lulu is a man of Masks.
If any of that made sense I'm glad.

I have yet to get that far into R2 (Staring on episode 19 of R2 and worked from there to 25, then all the way through Season One), but the way I see it, Lelouch knows that he has to maintain an illusion as Zero, which also means hiding away a lot of emotions to keep up that mystique. It reminds me of a radio commercial in Vice City, about an action film, that has the line "I'll cry when I'm done killin'." Pretty much the same deal.

yeah it would seem that he really did care for her...i mean he was really upset by the fact that she even found out he was zero in the first place... it would be so hard to be him....(especially cause i can't even hardly win a chess game LOL)

He probably mourned... in silence... on the inside cause he's too awesome to mourn on the outside; can YOU imagine Zero bawling like a baby? I don't think so.
To me, Lelouche and Zero are two completely different people. So Lelouche would mourn, and Zero would not. Work and life don't mix anymore.

Ya, I was surprised to find out that he cared that much about Shirley. I mean he did erase her memories of him completely in the 1st season. Which I will mention wasn't really necessary. He could of erased only her knowledge of him being Zero in the 1st season. ALL HAIL ZERO!!!!

Hmm.. well if you think about it if he would have just erased her memories of him being zero then there is a greater probability that she would have found out again somehome. He didn't know that she was tipped off in the first place.
