Tahrin sighed as he glanced over the group of novices. Somehow he'd been talked into helping Gurnam out with a demonstration for the day. The Kaillad looked rather impressive, having gained some height since his own time as a novice as well as bulk. His sword and bow, which were usually fastened to his back, were missing. He felt almost naked without them, but Gurnam had asked him to leave them at home for the day. He wasn't going to need them anyways.

The Kaillad glanced down at the pointed stick he held. This thing had seemed much bigger and heavier as a novice. Gurnam was finishing explaining what they were about to do in the demonstration and Tahrin listened in to make sure he knew what he was supposed to do. They were working on a series of blocks and attacks. Gurnam had told him they would switch between attacking and defending, a practice the Kaillad recalled.

Gurnam was done talking now and he motioned for Tahrin to take up his stance. He did so, raising the stick up to the ready position. It felt a bit strange to be fighting with a weapon that only required the use of one hand... The two males started into the sequence, slowly so the novices could catch what was going on. They went through it twice at the slower speed.

"And now up to speed." Gurnam stated and raised an eyebrow at Tah, who grinned right back. Then the two flew through the motions, looking like two dancers. They came to a stop, each working for a moment to catch his breath. Gurnam nodded and motioned for the novices to start pairing up. "Tahrin and I will be walking around to help correct your movements." He stated as the youngsters began moving.

Gurnam had moved off to supervise those novices who thought that sneaking off to the edges of the training grounds would get them out from under his eye while Tah stayed with the main group. He watched as the novices paired up and started. Or, most of them did. One Meecio wasn't moving too fast and seemed to be pestering some of the others.

"Why haven't you found a partner yet?" He asked, noticing that several of the other novices took his presence as an excuse to get away from Tigs. "You're supposed to be practicing."

Tahrin just blinked. "Huh?" He gave a slight shake of his head and sighed. "Not paying attention? Why?" He crossed his arms, tapping the opposite arm with the stick as he waited for an answer.

"Talking...?" Tahrin just stared at the girl. "About what? What was more important than what Gurnam was saying?"

Rat musicals? What the-? If Tahrin had ever wondered if there was someone more stupid than him in this world... well, he just met her. Oiy. Tahrin frowned. "Yes." He bopped her on the head with his stick. "And if you'd been listening, you could have blocked that."

Even Tahrin groaned on that, so we all know it was rather stupid. "You're supposed to USE the stick to block. Pay attention next time." He frowned and started to move off to pay attention to the novices who'd actually done what they were supposed to and were more worth his time.

Tahrin just continued to walk until he felt something at his side. Instinctively, he whirled about, striking Tigs' stick with his own. He was already moving into a counterattack before the next beat of his heart and the stick struck the middle of the Meecio's forehead before Tahrin even realized what he'd been doing.

The Kaillad blinked as he came back to his senses. "And that's why you should pay attention."

Tahrin gave a bit of a start. He hadn't meant to hurt her! In fact, he hadn't even known he'd hit her until afterward... The Kaillad grabbed the nearest novice (of which several had come over to investigate). "Go get a priest." He gave the novice a bit of a push towards the entrance and worked to keep the other novices from getting too close.

The novice in question stumbled towards the entrance for a bit before taking off at a full run. Before too long, he ran into a Teolli wearing the outfit of a priest. "Miss... miss! Hurry." He gasped, pointing back towards the training grounds.
