History: Subject: Eclipse, Species: Kryathan Hunter
Species info: A rare and dangerous predator that has the ability to conceal itself both naturally by blending with back grounds, moving silently, suppressing it's scent, and even blocking it's mind by focusing on hunting. Also possesses the ability to shapeshift using the DNA of what it consumes in order to mimic form, function, and at maturation portions of a being. Natural form varies between members of the species but many predatory traits are considered common beyond the natural concealment. Also tends to develop poison, extra limbs, and the ability to extend portions of it's body early in the adolescent phase.

Life stages:
Infant - Upon hatching from eggs the young number between ten and thirty. They quickly use scent to locate carrion left by the parent and eat their first meal to move immediately to the preadolescent stage. This occurs as they assume the form of what they eat though normally a younger form.

Preadolescent - In this form as with the adolescent form the Kryathan hunter maintains the form of a common or sociable animal during the day and sheds the form for it's true form at night. In it's natural form it boasts accute awareness of smell and sound making it difficult to surprise. It also has multiple eyes that can develop to see across a surprising spectrum depending on it's meals. At this stage it is unable to freely move from hunter to alternate forms and does not yet possess natural concealment outside of mimicing other animals.

Adolescent - This phase of growth is considered to begin upon the creature gaining the ability to blend with it's surroundings to hunt. At this life stage they still reflexively change into their alternate form during the day or under bright lights however they are also able to freely take on their alternate form at night or return to their hunter form if surprised by bright lights and returning to darkness. During this phase of growth they often ambush prey and eat nightly. Though it varies between individuals extra limbs are often grown in this life stage and a tail develops. Other traits vary based on diet but all members saliva has been found to become toxic during this stage.

Adult - Currently there is no understanding or method to estimate how or when Kryathan hunters mature but because they are asexual all adolescents should be monitored closely or confined to primitive planets at this stage. They are able to achieve a wide range of forms by mixing and matching DNA from their meals and if sentient species have been consumed they have even shown an ability to become more intelligent and even display memories from those consumed making them a serious threat. Adults and adolescents should be immediately captured and turned in to a preservation or research facility if discovered.

Individual information: Eclipse had it's growth stunted by a selective diet provided by the research team studying it. During this time only herbivorous species with minimal special traits were provided as food in order to inhibit it's abilities. Subject showed an above animal intelligence and was able to reason as a child could. Also displayed an innate ability to understand languages and other animals though from testing it became clear that the understanding is incomplete and based on it's own awareness. This was shown as it understood the subject referenced as a computer but showed no ability to understand the workings or how to use one. It is currently unknown if subject understood what others gained from using a computer but we believe that it's understanding is limited to social interactions and predator prey relationships as well as herd and pack mentality. Subject has not displayed ability to use tools even after repeated examples but it has been shown to be capable of mimicking others to use things such as doors or levers. When mimicking it can even repeat the steps of using a keypad but when presented with just a key pad it ignores it. From this we have found that it does not understand traps or weapons but it does understand threats to itself and has an almost unnatural ability to sense danger with it's sense of smell and hearing.

Overall we recommend those encountering or hunting this subject use traps, automatons, or otherwise out wit the creature. It has low mental parameters despite higher than normal physical. Be careful though as it is an intelligent hunter capable of laying in wait of prey and preferring to ambush and drag prey to the ground to attack repeatedly. No further information is available on subject until it is located and further mutations can be studied.

This is used mainly for hunting for food or lying in wait and while using it Eclipse is so focused on locating a meal that it’s mind is naturally calm and difficult to detect. However it is unable to move at full speed while blending and does leave a subtle impression on it’s surroundings making it easier to notice by those already aware of it. Once it’s prey is found and it attacks the blending effect from it’s stalking disappears entirely.
