♣│Meryl|♣
Glancing back incautiously at the last column she had pasted her leaving notice on, Meryl sighed in relief. She would be taking a vacation, of sorts. She was heading to all the other factions and guilds to do healing for them- which would work. Because she could do the healing the best, always. Ah, cut the pep talk. She'd given it to herself who knew how many times in the past, oh, what had it been, week?
And her guild would be fine without her. They weren't worried about her, because, other than the posters she had plastered the halls with, they didn't know she was leaving. They could hold their own- enough times she had seen them heal when they didn't know she was watching to know this was true. But some premature mother's instinct kept her worried thoughts biting at her, sharp edged and undeniably there.
Hoisting her pack onto the mare she was using- never a machine, as she couldn't fix them for the life of her- she hopped up behind her sack and rode through the gates, hearing them clang shut behind her. She winced- the gates were necessary for the safety of the healers, but they always seemed to be barring the rest of the world from their sanctuary, though she knew full well that the smaller door was always unlocked, with an attendant trained in emergency healing waiting there around the clock.
But she didn't look back- she needed to get to the thieves' guild before nightfall the next day. Glancing down only once to check that her box with the medicinal tools was still there, she kicked the horse into a gallop and quickly vanished from the sight of the healer's guild.
The next day
