It's not really all pills, just certain ones. I'm fine with taking plain killers, weight loss pills, and alergy pills, but that's it. I'm afraid to take medicine to help me with my Depression/OCD/ADHD/PPD. I'm just scared that I'll take them and they won't mix good together and that I'll die. I don't know what to do. I want to get over all of those things, but I'm not sure I can do it without the medicine, especially OCD. I hate having those things, and I really want to get rid of them!

Doctors know which medications mix with others, and which don't. So they would never give you two medications that clash. They'd work with you at low doses until they find a combination that works for you, then will slowly increase the dosage until it works completely for you and makes you feel better.

Now that's just not true. There's a little something called malpractice. If it never happened, there wouldn't be a name for it.

Any psychiatrist worth his or her salt will keep a handbook of drug interactions around. A truly good doctor will go through said book with you by request, though I can't guarantee your shrink will comply enthusiastically. Keep in mind that the Internet is no substitute for the drug interaction handbook or the D.S.M., otherwise we'd all be psychiatrists, now wouldn't we~?

I have the same fear, and what I do is I ask the pharmacist whenever I get medications if they are ok to take together. It helps me, because sometimes doctors screw up, but pharmacists work with them and typically know just as much or more.

Damn me for not thinking of that one. Pharmacists and doctors study their drug interactions from the same books, so pharmacists give a readily available second opinion. Thank you for adding that suggestion.
