|Info|Rules|Profile Skeleton|Accepted Profiles| Regardless of their age, many people admit that Pokemon was a fantastic show/game/idea. This rp is dedicated to all the Pokemon fans that have once let their minds embrace the wonderful world of owning and training Pokemon companions. ____________________________________________________________________________ One of the most proud momments of your life is the day that you officially become a Pokemon trainer. You meet with your Professor, who prepares you with all the details and expectations of your upcoming journey. You then choose one of three pokeballs.
Your first companion... which one will you choose? Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle? They will aid you on your journey of collecting and training Pokemon. You will encounter multiple battles, visit gyms, and perhaps compete in some of the greatest leagues of all time. Battles may be your one true destiny, or perhaps you will find your niche in a different profession.
Where ever your journey takes you, keep your friends close. Providing you take care of them, there is no limit to their loyalty. Some trainers will be more experienced, some less, but there will always be room for self-improvement, and there are always more Pokemon to discover and collect.

Biography: Dawn spent most of her life studying the behaviour and biology of Pokemon from her Research Professor. Fascinated by the unlimited lessons Pokemon provided, she grew eager to own one of her own. After discussing it over with her fellow student, Toby, the two students picked their first Pokemon companions. The Professor was happy to let Dawn set off on her adventure, as it allowed him to acquire research data from her travels. Her choice of Pokemon was a Charmander, who she named Shamus. Together they set off with Toby to begin their journey...

Biography: Toby has always been fascinated by pokemon, however this manifested in a different form from his childhood friend Dawn. He had heard tales of the great pokemon trainers and since an early age aspired to one day take his place among the upper echelons of their ranks. At the age of eight he began researching everything he could about raising and training pokemon, even going so far as going where no one could see him and practising his pokeball throw with a large rubber ball, aiming at little targets he'd stick on trees or rocks. It would be eleven years before he finally got his chance when Dawn asked her professor to give her a pokemon and start traveling. Toby, having been a frequent visitor to the research facility to see Dawn was able to convince the professor to let him join Dawn with a pokemon of his own. When it finally came time to choose his pokemon he didn't hesitate for a second, having already made the choice a long time ago. For his pokemon he selected a Squirtle, naming it Shellshock. Soon after Dawn and Toby left the town they had grown up in and set off on their adventure.

Other: In anticipation for receiving his first pokemon Toby put together a special harness which is designed to carry a squirtle on his back by way of a leather straps around the shell, allowing him to travel with his pokemon out of its ball.

Having never left Jhoto before, he saw this as a good opportunity to expand his horizons, and set out for Kanto, his old friend Larvitar in tow.

Biography: Carmen has been a member of Team Rocket for 2 years. She found herself being drawn away from her hometown of Cinnabar Island. Her first pokemon was caught by her older brother in the Pokemon Mansion and given to her as a birthday gift. The Vulpix was her companion for her later teen years until she encountered a Team Rocket member who recruited her into his group. Coming across a Fire Stone last year, she decided to evolve her Vulpix into a more powerful Ninetales. She now travels with Ninetales at her side and her other pokemon attached to her belt. She starts a battle with almost anyone, and is not afraid of a challenge.

Curled up in a ball, Dawn opened her eyes to see her Charmander, Shamus. He was lying against her, his tail burning bright, keeping them both warm. He'd been awake for a while, but continued to rest until he had reason to get up. The sounds outside the tent made him look in different directions as he decided on what species of Pokemon were out and about that morning.
"Good morning, Shamus" Dawn smiled and rubbed his head. "Come on, looks nice and sunny out there..."
She dragged herself outside and instantly felt the warm sun hit her face, followed quickly by a chill in the wind. Hugging herself against the cold, she looked around at the trees that surrounded the tent, and at the fire pit that had clearly burnt out. "Looks like Toby's still sleeping."
"Char..."
Something rustled in the tree to their right and their eyes instantly dashed up to see what was climbing about. A curious Mankey kept an eye on them and watched as Shamus kept close to Dawn.
"Awe, a Mankey." Dawn whispered. She sat down next to Shamus and watched him in the tree. Once he began to feel a little more comfortable he tried to slowly make his way down the tree bit by bit. He was almost at the base when Shamus began to make warning noises...
"It's okay Shamus, he's just curious... look, he's not raising his fur or anything... he's just checking us out."
"Chhaaaaarrrrrrrr...." he continued growling.
"Hey, knock it off, you're scaring him."
The Mankey was hesitating, and his eyes were getting wider with fear and uncertainty. Shamus then made a fake lunge towards him, with a short shot of fire out of his mouth. The Mankey tore up the tree like a rocket, stopped briefly to look back at them, and then swung off into the distance.
Dawn looked at Shamus who was still looking to see if the Mankey would return.
"Protective little bugger aren't you? He just wanted to check us out!"
"Char." Was all he said, still staring in the direction the Mankey had gone.

While Dawn was waking Toby was already out and about with Shellshock. They had found a small glade with enough room to move around and there they started to practice together. Toby's strong spirit had come across to the Squirtle almost instantly and as such the two had formed a close bond and shared the desire to become a stronger team.
Toby had set up several targets on one side of the glade and a line on the other side which they stood behind. Looking down at the small blue creature by his side Toby smiles at the determined look on the Squirtles face. "You ready, budy?"
"Squirtle!" Came Shellshock's reply, the squirtle's eyes narrowing on the closest target. Toby's hands clench for a moment before he points at the target. "GO Shellshock! Attack with watergun!"
Shellshock's chest swells slightly just before he opens his mouth to release a jet of water which knocks over the first target.
"Quick, dodge left and water gun again!"
"Squir-" Shellshock leaps to the left, skidding across the grass on his smooth yellow undershell as he prepares his next attack. Right before he fires his short blue limbs lift him off his shell to steady himself before he fires again, taking out two of the targets.
"Awesome shot Shellshock, now finish the last one with tackle!" With a quick nod the pokemon takes a few four legged strides before leaping into the air towards the target. Half way there he pulls himself into his shell and begins to spin, increasing the damage of the impact that splinters the wood. "Yes! Alright Shellshock, that was great." Running over to the now tired pokemon Toby gives the squirtle a high five. "You're moves are getting better already, those big city trainers wont know what hit 'um."
Feeling Toby's energy does a quick fist pump accompanied by an enthusiastic "Squir!"
Toby then got the black leather harness and helps his squirtle into it before hefting the backpack like straps over his shoulders and starts walking towards the camp sight, the tired Shellshock retracting into his shell for a rest.
Arriving back at the camp he spots Dawn and her charmander sitting on the grass and he waves at her. "Hey there Dawn, sleep well?"

Shamus' intent stare was interrupted by the sound of heavier footsteps.
Seeing Toby and Squirtle approaching, his guard lowered and his face lit up.
"Charmander!!!"
"Hmm?" Dawn turned to two approaching. "Oh you're up! Excellent, hey guys!" She stood and brushed some dirt off her legs. "That means I can make breakfast!"
She went to her tent and grabbed a bag. Opening it, she took out the necessary cooking tools, like her pan and pot. "Shamus? Would you please?" Following her gaze to the fire pit, the Charmander went to grab some chopped wood. Unfortunately it was too big for him and he had troubles moving it. He called over to Shellshock for assistance.
"You guys missed a Mankey that was poking around. He was over there on that tree...Took a good look at Shamus and me. He was probably planning on stealing our food." She laughed lightly. "Pesky buggers!"
She continued chopping up some carrots and potatoes.

Toby's smile grows wider at the mention of food, suddenly aware of the loud growling of his empty stomach, the sound causing him to blush. "Breakfast sounds great, haha." Moving towards the tent to help Dawn out Shellshock undoes the harness and drops to the ground. Once free of the leather straps the squirtle quickly moves to go help Shamus with the firewood. The two of them together are sufficient to collect several large pieces of dry branches, though the last pieces started to catch fire when an overzealous Shamus was forgetful of where his tail flame was. Toby cant help but laugh as the two pokemon scramble to put out the premature flame, with Shellshock eventually remembering he could shoot water from his mouth to put out the fire.
Turning away from the pokemon to face Dawn once more he picks up on her story. "So we've hit mankey territory eh? We should be careful where we leave our food.... and shiny objects." Chuckling slightly he moves to pull out one of his maps showing the surrounding area and what pokemon tended to inhabit it. "Hmmm, according to this we should start to see some flying and bug types start to show up in the next day or so..." The sudden waft of cooking food stops Toby in mid sentence and after a deep sniff he turns away from his maps to move over Dawn's shoulder, sniffing several more times. "Mmmm, smells good."

Dawn took out two food dishes and poured some pokemon food in each of them. Putting them aside she continued to mix ingredients in their own food and leaned over to look at Toby's map as she continued to stir. "Mankey's here.. bug and flight Pokemon up ahead... excellent. Shamus and I need to work on our first catch. I'm going need more pokemon if we're taking on the Gym leaders! But I'm sure Shamus can help me out on that, right little man?"
Shamus was distracted. Looking over at him, Dawn watched as he lit the fire with the flame on his tail. "Good!" Smiling at Toby, who's stomach kept growling, she took the pot over to the fire and set it up to cook. Coming back over to the map, she looked at the territories and had a concentrated expression.
"I've never been in a Pokemon fight with Shamus. I wonder how well he'll do." She thought about it for two seconds and then smiled. "Well I guess there's only one way to find out, isn't there? Hmmm.. I don't know all of his attacks yet... I know he can do scratch, growl and ember, but it looked like he almost tried a Flamethrower move today when he attacked that Mankey."
She pulled a Pokedex out of her jacket and opened it. "What are Charmander's attacks?"
" Charmander's attacks include Growl, Scratch, Leer, Ember, and Smokescreen. With extra training, they are able to learn Rage, Scary Face, Flamethrower, Slash, Dragon Rage, and Fire Spin."
"Looks like I'll have to test them out and see what he can do..."

Toby returns to looking over his maps and other charts for a few more minutes while the food cooks. Every now and then he'd look up from what he's doing to watch Shellshock eat. It was obvious that their little training session had made the Squirtle work up a big appetite as it wasn't long before the food dish was empty and he had rolled onto his shell clad back, burping loudly before letting out a long sigh. "Squirrrr..."
Chuckling, Toby speaks as he looks back down to his map. "Enjoyed that eh buddy? We should be thankful that Dawn's with us to fix us up all this great grub. Don't forget your manners now, say thanks."
From beside the small red shell a single blue arm can be seen lifting up with its little fingers in the thumbs up position, accompanied by a faint. "..Squirtle.."
Looking over at Dawn he smiles as he sees her approaching with a plate of food. "Yum." Taking the food graciously he starts to chow down. "Mmmm, tastes great, thanks Dawn." Nodding towards his pokemon he draws Dawn's attention to Shellshock. "Looks fairly happy doesn't he."
Taking another gulp of food he turns to face his companion, his belly no longer growling. "I'm sure you'll do fine once you get in a battle with Shamus, just gotta trust each other is all. And as for getting more pokemon, I'm sure we'll have a chance to catch a few before we reach the first gym. Personally I'm hopping to get a shot at one of my old favourites, in the next day or so. Gonna catch me a pidgey" Toby smiles confidently as he pops another fork full of food into his mouth.

Dawn listened to Toby's words as she watched them eat. Putting a fork full of food in her mouth every once and a while, she nods.
"Yeah I think they're both doing pretty well." She laughed at the full Squirtle. "Yeah, VERY well."
Shamus then finished his food and curled up next to the fire.
"If I did some more training with him then maybe we'd be a stronger team and he'd trust me more... then he wouldn't have to be so protective."
She smiled at him, he was so cute, curled up in a ball. "So! A Pidgey eh? They're nice to have... comes in handy!"
As he finished his plate she collected up all the dishes and put them in some water. Then she sat down next to Shamus, one hand wrapped around her knees, the other petting Shamus on the head.
"I'd like to catch a Mankey before we leave their territory I think... I've been thinking about them ever since I saw that one this morning..."

Toby nods slowly at Dawn's words while she cleans up the dishes. "Yeah, Pidgey's are a bit of a hassle to tame but once you do they're incredibly useful and loyal too. And once they evolve into a Pidgeot they get big enough to ride, never have to pay for a plane ticket ever again." Toby chuckles at his words as he thinks about Dawns idea to catch a mankey. "Hmmm, well just be warned that they're incredibly mischievous even after you catch them and if they evolve the Primeape you'll get will be even more of a handful. Those pokemon are incredibly aggressive, though they make tough opponents to beat in a battle..." Standing up Toby helps Dawn pack up their camping equipment. "Its up to you really."
Turning his head to look at his squirtle Toby calls out to him. "Hey Shellshock, why don't you help us pack up the sleeping bags while we take down the tent?" Hearing his trainer's words Shellshock rolls onto his legs and stands up.
"Squirtle." Nodding when he says this the little pokemon walks over to the sleeping bags and starts to carefully roll them up with an all too serious face making it hard not to laugh when the pokemon's small hands slips on the slick surface almost causing him to face plant.
It wasn't long before they had all their stuff packed up and were on their way again. Shellshock was once again in the leather harness on Toby's back, everything but his head and his tail pulled into his shell. The forest was getting a little more open, the trees becoming more spaced out. "Hey Dawn, see how the tree's are opening up? Makes it easier for flying types to get around, we should start seeing some new pokemon soon." The excitement in his voice was unmistakable as his eyes start to move around, scanning the treetops. "Hey Shellshock, keep your eyes out for a Pidgey." Soon the squirtle's head begins to move around, his eyes on the upper branches of the trees. Their distraction causes them to trip over a few rocks and tree roots, forcing Toby to catch himself with his hands a few times.

Dawn looked around at the trees for Pokemon. The day was getting warmer, and the forest was beautifully lit. She smiled as she felt the wind blow gently against her face. "Flying on your Pokemon..."
She looked at Shamus walking next to her and smiled at him.
"Someday you will be a Charizard hun, and we will travel the world together..." He smiled back at her. "Char!"
Then he looked into the forest with a determined expression.
"Hey," Dawn put her arm on Shamus' shoulder. "We'll get there in time... we have a lot of training to do together. No need to rush into it, okay?" She smiled and then remembered she hadn't responded much to Toby's comment about Mankey earlier.
"I still think I want a Mankey, I'm up for the challenge. That's why we're here, isn't it? I know they're aggressive, we were in the same class remember?!" She laughed and looked at Shamus.
"Good. We'll take them on, won't we Shamus?"
Shamus looked up happily. "Charmander!" Then his eyes darted to the woods on his right. "Char?" He leaned back to look past Toby and Squirtle.
"Hmm? What is it Shamus?" Looking into the woods, she could see bushes moving and rustling.
"Toby, look."

Toby follows Dawn's line of sight to the rustling bushes on the right. "Huh?... What ever it is its getting closer." Widening his stance Toby gets ready for what ever it is. "Shellshock, better get ready just in case..."
"Squirtle." Nodding slowly the red shelled pokemon slips out of his harness to the ground, moving through Toby's wide stance to come to a stop a few steps in front of the young man.
A few tense moments pass as the rustling comes closer and closer. Then all of a sudden a small green pokemon with huge black eyes comes charging out of the bushes. When his eyes spot the pokemon Toby visibly slumps. "Awwww man its only a caterpie, that-" Toby's words are cut off by the shouting of his squirtle.
"Squirtle! Squirtle squir!" Spinning back to face the way the caterpie had come he spots another shadow higher up moving quickly towards them. A heartbeat later the shadow moves into the light. "A pidgey!!" Toby doesn't hesitate for a second before leaping into action. "Shellshock! Use water gun! Nodding the Squirtle inhales sharply before letting out several steams of water however the more agile pidgey is able to evade them. Toby's mind races as he thinks of alternative tactics. "Ok, if you can't hit it directly shoot over its head to force it down!"
As he issues his orders the Pidgey dive bombs towards squirtle, its attention having been shifted from the carterpie to Shellshock. The squirtle is forced to leap to the side to narrowly avoid being hit by the attack. Once back on his feet he takes another breath before launching a steady stream at the Pidgey, this time aiming over the pokemon to force it towards the ground. The stream ends just as the pidgey levels out above the tall grass of the forest. "Great Shellshock, now use tackle!"
"Squirtle!" Shellshock's eyes narrow on the pidgey as he charges forward. As the two pokemon charge towards each other Toby clenches his hands from the tension. 'Come ooon, come ooon.'
At the last second the squirtle leaps into a tackle, his hard shell hitting the bird square on the head causing the Pidgey to bank into the ground. "Yes! Nice work Shellshock! Now its my turn." Reaching behind him Toby pulls out an empty pokeball and with a move practiced over years, lobs the ball towards the Pidgey.
When the ball hits it opens up and a the pokemon is turned into a flash of light and pulled into the ball as it closes. The ball shakes from side to side slightly as the pokemon fights to get out, but soon the red light fades back to grey. Toby stands there silent for a second before he realizes what he's just done. "Yes!! I caught my first wild pokemon!!"

Dawn watched with excitement as Toby entered his first battle. She knew how badly he wanted a pidgey. Squirtle was giving it his best, you could see how much he wanted to please his owner at the same time. As they battled, something was moving in the corner of her eye... it was the caterpie. It was silently making its way back into the woods.
Toby threw his pokeball at the pidgey and her mind went back to his attempted capture. When it was fully caught, her and Shamus cheered.
She walked up to him as he picked up his pokeball.
"Wow, great job Toby," she laid a hand on his shoulder. "I should send an email to the Professor later on tonight and tell him the good news..."
Her gaze went back into the direction of the caterpie. "I wonder..."
She let her hand slide off his shoulder as she walked in the direction of the caterpie. It was a little deeper in the woods, but she could still see it.
"What do you say, Shamus? What to give it a go?"
"Charmander!"
"Alright.." They walked off the path towards the caterpie, who seemed to be hoping they wouldn't notice his departure. "Go! Charmander! Use Scratch!" Shamus ran up to the caterpie, who tried to run out of his way, and gave him a deep scratch with his claws.
The caterpie was knocked over instantly, and angered. He got up and tackled Shamus as hard as he could. Dawn could tell it was a good one. "Use Scratch again Shamus!" The Charmander looked a little bummed out about being hurt, and looked forward to scratching his opponent. He went to give another good thrashing, when the Caterpie jumped out of the way and used string shot. "Quick Shamus! Try Flame thrower!!!!"
Shamus took a deep angry breath, and went to shoot a fierce blaze of fire...
"Charrr... ???" It only made a small burst curve around his lips.
"That's alright Shamus. Try ember instead."
He nodded and gave it a shot.
It worked, the caterpie was hurt by the burns. Dawn took out her empty pokeball and threw it towards the Caterpie.
It opened and sucked the Caterpie in with a white light, closed, then rocked back and forth.
Then it opened again.
"What?! Aw. Shamus use scratch again!"
But it was too late. The caterpie had used stringshot on a high tree branch and was ascending out of reach.
Dawn and Shamus returned to Toby and ShellShock on the trail.
"It was worth a shot... and we did pretty good, didn't we Shamus? Our first battle!" Shamus didn't seem to agree. He looked really sad, embarrassed even. She kneeled down and hugged him. "I think you did great!"
"Char.." He said half heartedly. She looked at him with a bit of concern.
"You upset about that flamethrower move?" He nodded.
"It's nothing to worry about. You almost had it! And I think that Caterpie looked pretty scared... All we need to do is work on it a bit and I bet you'll have it in no time. Promise to train with me?"
His face lit up with encouragement. "Char!!"
"Good! And don't forget... There's plenty of more pokemon coming up... I can make do without a Caterpie!"
