Tau Dominion


The Tau Dominion originated from the Tauri who after a long and bloody civil war that had almost annihilated them developed a way of life that they call "The Greater Good" or "The Way of Peace." When the Tauri developed space travel and began to encounter other Aliens they felt it was their responsibility to spread their teachings. Many species accepted these teachings and the Tau Dominion was born. It started off as an alliance of different alien species and eventually evolved into a single government with a group of elected officials leading them. As time went on they spread the Greater Good to dozens of different species, but it was not long till they encountered species who refused to accept their teachings and some even directly attacked the pacifist Tau. The governing council decided that because the Greater Good was the only path to peace all species had to accept it or else there would always be conflict. Thus the Tau combined their greatest technologies and constructed great warships, ground weapons, and other devices of war which they used to suppress the violent urges of the "Unenlightened Ones." When a planet was defeated by the Tau the people were given a chance to accept the Way of Peace or be put into "Reeducation Camps" to teach them how to live peaceful lives.

The Tau Dominion was already a vast empire and had many different species with powerful technology and so in less than a century they had spread the "Greater Good" all throughout their own galaxy and the Tau Dominion became the sole governing body. There were still some who would not accept their teachings and so they were either allowed to be expended or placed into reeducation camps. Then one clever Tau leader asked, "why should we stop spreading the Greater Good throughout our own galaxy? Why not go to others and spread peace throughout the whole universe?" Thus the Tau began construction of the largest fleet ever assembled. Their plan was to traverse the vast void between their galaxy and the closest one to theirs. Once there they would spread the Way of Peace to those people as well.

The Laws of the Greater Good
These are the guiding principles of the Tau Dominion. Over time they have been revised to fit certain cultures but their intent has always remained the same: to create everlasting peace.

1. Acknowledge negative emotions but never act on them.
2. You shall respect all life.
3. You shall not take that which does not belong to you.
4. If one does not understand then it shall be made clear to them.
5. If you have the means to do good for another, then you must do so.
6. Never deceive others for personal gain.
7. Never do evil.

Punishment for acting in contrary to these teachings varies on how you have broken them. But usually when you repent of your crimes you will be forgiven and given another chance. Repeated offenders are sent to reeducation camps to rejoin the path to harmony. Those that purposefully do evil repeatedly and show no signs of remorse or hope of rehabilitation are exiled to a penal colony to live out the rest of their lives in hopes that they may find peace on their own.

In addition to these laws there are also other traits that all Tau are suggested possess for greater happiness:

3. Diligence
4. Patience
5. Confidence

Grand Tau Army
The Grand Tau Army, unlike the UNSC which is split up into the Army and Navy, is just one military force. Most emphasis is placed on the space divisions, as it is far easier to just eradicate an enemy from orbit than have to battle them on the surface, but the Tau Army does have a very large ground force when the need arises to pacify a planet by taking control of major population centers. The military in order from highest to lowest are as follows:

Counselor: Counselors serve the roles of religious leader, psychiatrist, confessor, and secret police all in one. Their jobs are to teach The Laws of the Greater Good, help people in their quest to obey the Laws, listen to people's confessions of breaking the laws, and sending people to reeducation camps if their breaking of the laws are deemed 'too difficult to handle under current conditions.'

Technology
Pulse Laser Rifle: A Pulse Laser weapon uses a complex array of multiple lasers, reliable power sources, and advanced cooling systems to produce a Laser weapon that fires in rapid succession with just as much hitting power as that of a normal Laser Rifle.
Pulser Laser Cannon: This is just like a Pulse Laser Rifle, except on a larger scale.
Turbolaser: A Turbolaser is highly volatile gas excited by a laser and then discharged through a firing aperture. The result is a ball of very powerful energy. This weapon has an advantage over plasma weapons because of it's increased range and it has an advantage over laser weapons because of it's superior firepower.
Pulsar Lance: Similar to a normal Lance, but on a much larger scale.
Boron Missile: Boron Missiles do not use a conventional explosive warhead but instead use highly compressed Antimatter to destroy a target. When Antimatter collides with normal matter they immediately destroy each other.

Species of the Tau Dominion


Although collectively all species of the Tau Dominion are called "Tau" they also have their own unique names and cultures.

If you wish to suggest your own species please copy this code and PM it to me so I can add them to the list (I reserve the right to say no to certain abilities or species entirely).

Name: Tauri

Description: The Tauri are sometimes called "The Founders" because of their pivotal role in founding the Tau Dominion. Although they founded it their role in the Tau Dominion today is as equals. They have humbly stepped down from a position of power to allow all species of the Tau Dominion to rule. Tauri are usually a very aloof and intelligent people. They are very humble and peace loving and never fight in battles. Their bodies give them appearance of elegance at even the simplest of tasks.

Name: Kroot

Description: Kroots a vicious tribal like people. They are extreme fierce in battle and the only use melee weapons, but with their ample strength , quick speed, and thick hides these crude weapons are more than enough. Physiologically Kroots are very similar to Dinosaurs; they have a reptilian hide but are warm blooded instead of cold. They can live to be 100 years old, but are usually killed by younger Kroots when they get too old.

Description: Falleens are a race of reptilian humanoids. They are hairless except for their heads, are amphibious and can hold their breath for up to 6 hours, and they birth live young which the females feed with milk from their breasts. Falleen of both genders have the ability to release chemical pheromones through pores in their skin. These pheromones are used to attract the opposite sex and can work on some other species, including Humans. When they release pheromones their skin begins to turn a shade of red. Culturally Falleens are a very proud people, and some would argue they are egotistical. Upper class Falleens dislike fighting and prefer to use others to take care of problems, thus they make good tacticians, but the lower classes of Falleens will fight as soldiers because they believe it may raise their prominence in society. Falleens can live up to 300 years.

Description: Golo are not one organism but are instead a colony of microscopic organisms. Golo form together into large colonies and can manipulate their forms to fit into almost any space. Sometimes Golo colonies split into two colonies that are connected symbiotically. The Tau give the Golo heavy armor and a powerful turbolaser for them to fight with in battles. Because Golo's are made up of so many individual creatures they are difficult to kill. Golo can live forever because they are constantly creating more and more Golo for the colony.

Description: Yerteary may look like animals but their hidden powers and intellect make them very precious. They can adapt to any atmosphere given time and energy enough. They can even adapt to fit in among humans and others. Although the males are usually soldiers and the females are the leaders the roles can be switched. They have open minds towards anybody and don't mind to get their hands dirty when needed. When they have a grudge on someone they keep it forever sometimes passing it to their children. Yerteary's tend to live to be about 120 and like to keep at least one animalistic feature about them when in any two legged form. They are mostly in tribes even upon the ship they like packs. They also have the ability to pass on certain abilities and memories to their children when they are birthing them. (Females only.) (Made by Raven_Silverclaw)

Description: The Xexto are a highly intelligent race and very nimble with their small hands. They are also very curious and love machines, and using machines, and fixing machines, and making machines. Thus they are often used as engineers in the Tau Dominion, a role that they are very happy to fulfill.

Name: Verpine

Description: The Verpine are a race of insectoids of moderate intelligence. They were once a race of noble space explorers before they were conquered by the Tau Dominion. They lost because they are poor fighters and do not aspire for much, they great passion though is finding new places to see simply for the fact that they love to explore. They are quite good in this role because they have very strong immunities to many harsh environments. Whether they planet is blazing hot, freezing cold, has little or no atmosphere, is irradiated, or poisonous they will likely be able to survive longer than any other species. They can even survive in the vacuum of space for a short time.

Name: Rodian

Description: Rodians were a peaceful race of farmers when the Tau Dominion brought them under their protection. The younger population was so attracted to the teachings of the Tau that they accepted it very quickly and many joined the Tau Dominion armed forces and now many serve as basic soldiers on the front lines of the army.

Name: Twi'lek

Description: Twi'leks have always been a very simple people who just wished to live. They had colonized several star systems when the Tau Dominion discovered them. They tried to resist but quickly saw that it was useless and surrendered. They are quite a dexterous, resilient people and intelligent as well, this makes them great in many roles in the military, ranging from pilots to foot soldiers. Also their elegant appearance makes them ideal for ambassadorial roles such as teachers, missionaries, and workers.

Name: Talz

Description: The Talz come from a frozen world where they live deep under the ice to hide from the constant blizzards of the surface. The Tau had annexed their planet for a couple decades before even realizing there were people already there. The Talz were a species that had developed only barely beyond the bronze age and thus they were quickly pacified and forced to join. They are usually quite peaceful and prefer not to fight, thus they are usually used as manual labor. Although the Talz come from a cold world they are quite able to survive in worlds that are warmer.

Description: The Bothans were one of the first species to join the Tau Dominion and they did so of their own free will. Bothans see opportunities for advancement and they will always take them given their is not too much risk. As a people they are quite pragmatic and rarely do they attempt something that does not have a high chance of success. They are however quite good with science and developing new technologies and thus many Bothans are now scientists in the Tau Dominion.

Description: The Tigrids originated on the planet Tigrel, a feline race with a tribal shamanistic society, the Tigrids are known mainly for their lust for life and hedonistic culture. The planet consists of Jungle, Mountains and Tundra, as a result the races can be identified by their different fur colours (White, Yellow-Orange and Red-Orange) dependant on their environment. In terms of strength Tigrids are stronger than most humans and are capable of acts of agility beyond olympic gymnasts as well as powerful senses. In battle they prefer unarmed combat but prefer to use glaives and knives when it comes to melee weaponry, as for long range they prefer an Energy Bow, a device similar to a laser rifle but is fired in the same way a bow would be. Name: Archanis Priests

Description: The Archanis Priesthood are a race of gaseous beings that once had physical form but, due to a horrific holy war that wiped out most of their now forgotten species, were rendered formless, kept alive only by their faith in their death god Salaris, the warriors of this holy order believe the Tau to be the Zech-Al-Ach-Barus, the living servants of Salaris and thus have pledged themselves to be Fanatical Protectors of the Dominon. They are immensely strong and tall and, as they lack physical bodies, are capable of living for many centuries, however they cannot survive outside of the specially built Chambers and Armour that contain them. Their favoured weapon is the Kalach-Va-Sal, a polearm combining Sword and Axe into a deadly double-blade weapon. (Made by Big Boss Wolf)

Name: Jil'stral

Description: These slug like creatures can get up to about three feet in length. They move about on tiny legs underneath thier body which also act as hyper sensors or attachments in case of an insertion. They cannot live out of a body for more then an hour. They can only live as themselves on thier home planet and others that have the gas like forms they breath but even then they can only live without a host a limited time.

They are a peaceful race and like to be called the Consiousness of their hosts. They can take control over any host they are in, however most choose not to taking the ride as a learning experience. Most become like thier host in personality and older Jil'Stral are more vague on a specific personality since they rememebred all thier hosts on a personal level.

Their past is one they do not bring up for its bloody and they use to be able to insert themselves forceably into any body. Now however it takes a proceeder to get them to cling along the spinal cord of its host. They all still have the sharp teeth to pentrate through skin and attach themselves if needed. But its not very successful and only used on a willing host and in cases of emergency.

As far as anyone knows they can live forever as long as they have a host to live in. Some have choosen to 'commit suicide' and not take another host after having so many. (Made by Raven_silverclaw)

Ground Forces


Tau ground strategy is to surround the enemy and then send in specialized teams of ground troops backed up by artillery to seek and destroy them. Tau are excellent in small units of highly trained and well equipped warriors. Very rarely do they fight in large scale battles.

Name: Tau Exo-Suit

Description: The Tau Dominion is made up of hundreds of different sentient species of all shapes and sizes. After encountering so many different species though the Tau have come to the conclusion that the Humanoid form is the most versatile of all. It has an even balance of strength, speed, and dexterity. It has a height advantage over other creatures. It can run, swim, climb, and operate controls unlike other forms which usually can only do a couple of those. Because they have concluded it is the most efficient form their technology has been developed for humanoids to use including Exo-suits. Exo-suits are designed to fit many different shapes and sizes of humanoids by automatically adjusting to their wearer. Exo-suits also have an advanced system of technology that gives the wearer extra strength, speed, and armor. Exo-suits also allow the user to see in the dark, survive in environments ranging from arctic planets, lava planets, underwater, and in space.

Name: Tau XV88 Broadside Battlesuit

Description: Experienced veterans can wear Broadside Battlesuits and are the most heavily armed of all Tau ground troops. They are equipped with the most devastating weapons in the Tau arsenal.

Space Forces

Tau naval strategy is to deploy ships with superior offensive and defensive abilities and slowly but surely eliminate all opposition that engages them. Tau will not pursue enemies in long drawn out chases. They will simply approach their adversary and the adversary can either choose to stay and fight or run away. Tau do not usually lay traps and instead wait for the enemy to come to them, in which case they are confident that they will always win. Only Tau Fighters and Drop Ships can enter an atmosphere.

Name: Tau Clawcraft

Weapons: 4 Pulse Laser Cannons
Description: The Tau Clawcraft is the standard fighter of the Tau Dominion. It sports 4 Pulse Laser Cannons on the tips of it's wings. Multiple microthrusters give this craft great maneuverability in both space and an atmosphere. Tau Clawcraft have decent speed but when they cannot outrun an opponent they can accept a hit with their miniature shield generator that can take quite a beating before breaking.

Name: Tau Devilfish APC

Description: The Devilish is used to carry Tau warriors into battle. It has a shield generator and moderate armor but is quite slow.

Name: Orca Class Cruisers

Weapons: 2 Pulsar Lances, 16 Pulse Laser Cannons, 8 Turbolasers, Boron Missiles
Description: Orcas are faster and more maneuverable than other capital ships in the Tau Dominion, but less agile than some other species. They have a wide array of deadly weapons, heavy armor, and powerful shields.

Name: Merchant Class Starship

Weapons: 6 Pulsar Lances, 20 Turbolasers, 30 Pulse Laser Cannons, Boron Missiles
Description: Merchants are the basic starship of the Tau fleet. Although their name implies they are mostly used for commerce, Merchants also make powerful warships. They are already equipped with great weapons, incredible armor, and powerful shields and can be modified to hold a large amount of fighters instead of cargo.

Name: Explorer Class Starship

Weapons: 4 Pulsar Lances, 14 Turbolasers, 24 Pulse Laser Cannons, Boron Missiles
Description: Explorers do not usually fight in major because of their great cost and pacifist role, but when they are forced into battle they have a wide array of weapons at their disposal. Like Explorers have superior armor and shields than Merchants, as well as superior speed, but they have smaller cargo holds and hangars so they cannot hold nearly as many fighters and other small craft.

Name: Hero Class Battleship

Weapons: 9 Pulsar Lances, 30 Turbolasers, 60 Pulse Laser Cannons, Boron Missiles
Description: The Hero Battleships were developed because of the increasing resistance from species who would not accept the greater good. They have the best weapons, armor, and shields out of all other Tau ships. They also are faster than Merchants and Explorers and have large hangars that hold a large compliment of fighters and Drop Ships.

Name: Tau Orbital

Weapons: 2 Pulsar Lances, 26 Turbolasers, 38 Pulse Laser Cannons, Boron Missiles
Description: The Tau have made extensive use of orbitals since their earliest forays into space. They now form a vital part of the Tau fleet marking their main trade routes and speeding communications between outposts. They also serve as protection for key locations such as planets, Nebulas, or asteroid fields.
