The Church (mostly Catholic churches in mainland Europe) sold indulgences, or basically a remission of sins through payment. Nevermind willingness to confess, or the more gritty attrition. The place I work for sells religious education via online means, much as online colleges do. The religious bookshelves in stores have book after book that they claim you need to read to have productive lives, find your spiritual self, or to "unlock occult mysteries" or learn the "true ways" of some "ancient religion."
Do you believe it is morally acceptable to do so?
Do you simply support it, as a Capitalist?
Do you believe it is mostly all comprised of lies in order to make funds?
What are your thoughts and opinions on these things? How would you wish to correct them? Have you ever thought of selling religious teachings of your own, or working in a business that does to make money?
I suppose Hollywood does the same when they make serious, religiously themed movies... But that is another story I suppose.

I don't think it "bad" to sell religion, ancient or not. At the same time I don't think religion is something that should/can be sold. But, now-a-days everything can, and does, have a price and can be found a your local Wallmart biggrin

I don't have a problem paying for religious instruction depending on the format. If I am going to a retreat, conference or something similar, I don't mind putting some money out. I am doing so in good faith assuming that that money is going for rental fees, class supplies and travel for the instructors. But then again there I am getting face time with the instructors. I won't pay for religious teachings over the internet, no offense, but I have no problem paying for other instruction, like herb and history classes. I just don't think that religion can be taught online. Yes, you can get information, but it isn't the same as getting face time with a person. You can learn a lot about a belief system from those that claim to teach it.

To be honest, I don't care if religion is sold. I just won't buy it.
Don't get me wrong. Religion is a nice thing. The only problem I got with religion is the fact that humankind uses it to control the masses. There might be some people who have true faith in what they're preaching and really do help people and such things.
For me a church doesn't have anything to to with christianity. I mean if god is everywhere, why should I go into some strange building to talk to him?
But if you ask me all the things religons are about are comon sense packed in a nice fantasy story.
I don't want to attack religion here, I'm christian myself. But I don't believe in heaven and all that stuff. God is a imaginary person for me which I talk to when I need someone. It's a boost of self-confidence if there's somebody behind you, be he/she/it imaginary or not.
And nobody will ever be able to put this into a material thing to sell me.
Why should a god forgive my sins if I pay money? A god doesn't need money.
A nice example is:
If you had children and they killed the neighbor because they don't like him. Would you say it's ok if they paid you 50$?

You can't be part of a religion if you're just there for physical matters like money or burritos. In my defense of making a novel, I'd just give my books out so others can believe Christianity
