A powerful demon, cast off from his people and desperate for a second chance at greatness. A powerful tome, useless without someone to wield it. How will they react to their fated meeting? Will it spell doom for the residents of the Dark Isles? One thing is for certain; nothing good can come from this...
(( This is an RP for Seikyu and Sane, based on the first time Vlad and Ruin cross paths. It's for us to come to when all you other people attend to your "real lives". Because we are above "being social" and things like that. Pssshh. >.>' ))

It was something that Vladimir Devlin was not accustomed to experiencing for himself. Something that he certainly didn't want to become accustomed to, either. Nonetheless, there it was. And quite a lot of it. How did this even happen? He was all-powerful! He was feared throughout the world! He was... nearly killed by his own reflection. What an atrocious notion.
He hadn't realized what had happened until he had already dropped to the ground. He had barely realized that he had been screaming. Only one coherent thought had passed through his mind at that moment; escape. He knew there was no other option. And so, with what felt like all the strength he had left, he did just that. Now, here he was. Pathetically lying at the base of a tree, like a sitting duck. His crimson eyes were closed, but he was not asleep. He lay there, recuperating his body and clearing his mind.
His life as it was, was over. He knew that much already. After all, how could one go about in such a blatantly destructive manner with such a horribly simple weakness? Not to mention that within a day or two, said weakness would hardly be a secret anymore. No, word of his humiliation would spread like a plague. He'd have all manner of lowlife beings attempting to kill him. And it was only a matter of time before someone was successful.
He would have to go into hiding, that much was absolutely certain. He dreaded the thought; having lived so openly beforehand, rotting away in some secluded cave seemed like Hell. But he would experience the real Hell firsthand if he did anything different. He was a risk taker, but he wasn't stupid. Though right now, he could hardly stand, let alone seek refuge.
He would have to rest first, and this forest seemed like the perfect place to do so. Rumors of the place being haunted kept most travelers away, and even in his current state, Vlad was sure he would be able to handle a simple zombie or two. His right index finger twitched at his side as he realized yet again how vulnerable he was. It had been the only movement he had made in the past half hour. He was reduced to calculating his chances against zombies, of all things... Absolutely pathetic. For the first time in his life, Vladimir was filled with rage and self-loathing." ...тнσugн ρєянαρs, ωнαт тнєy fєαя тнє мσsт, ιs ωнαт тнєy ωιℓℓ uиcσvєя σиcє тнє dαякиєss cℓєαяs. "

"Everything you have ever wanted is within me.."
A stumbling zombie had slowly made its way towards the pathetic form of a demon. At first glance, one could tell that this undead creature had not been undead for very long, and in life it had been a handsome young man. Now, the lowly husk that was once filled with vigor and youth and shambling at its prey; an infant trying to gets its first meal. Once it got about ten feet away from the demon, it bellowed out a curdled roar with blood dripping out of its own mouth. The crimson stream that fell fourth from the creature's orifice was the last part of its humanity, spilling away for the everlasting body of undeath.
"No, no. Place me here Robert. You'll have no more use for this body after you get rid of me, and this wretched existence will cease." a voice had said from the air around the zombie and demon. The walking corpse stopped for a moment, turned to its side, and pulled a book out from a dangling pouch. The majestic covering of the books golden surface was beautiful even in the darkly lit forest of Darkwood, on both the front and back giant rings are bound to the cover with six spiked decorations protruding from the middle of the book past the edge. In the center of it all lies an intimately cut green jewel, not an emerald.. something else. The zombie tossed the book onto the ground before Vladimir and stepped back for a moment. Suddenly, it convulsed and shrieked... Then coughed up a seemingly endless amount of blood, after which it fell to the ground a still corpse. Hurry up. Take me in your hands and open me. Robert isn't finished just yet and he'll be the least of your troubles if that dragon gets here soon. I'm the Grimoire of Eternity, call me Ruin. the raspy voice said once again, this time emitting from the unopened book. Better hurry, Vladimir. You've chosen the worst time for a vacation here.
"Touch my spine, open my body, and let my insides fulfill your dreams of power."

His pale lids eased open, and he lifted his head to look at the creature that was approaching. One of his hands closed into a fist and opened again, and he searched through himself to see just how much mana he would be able to summon forth. Not much, but possibly enough. The thing looked weak.
But apparently, it was not alone. Vlad's eyes widened slightly at the sound of a voice- surprising, because he had not sensed anything else this close. By its words, Vlad could only assume that the walking dead before him was "Robert", but exactly what the rest of it had meant, he hadn't a clue. It sounded incredibly out of context. He wondered if he was simply becoming delirious, but he quickly discounted that theory. The zombie had reacted to the voice as well, and pulled from its pack the most beautiful book Vladimir had ever seen. He felt himself taking in a breath as he gazed at it. Somehow it felt like more than just an ordinary book. His eyes didn't leave the golden volume as it hit the ground before him, or even after, until the zombie shrieked, at which point he looked up sharply, just in time to see it vomiting the last of its lifeblood.
He didn't take long to pity the thing, because the book spoke. For the second time, Vlad realized. His brows drew together as he was instructed. A dragon? Oh, right. He had heard that there was some sort of terrible dragon in these woods. He'd forgotten about that. That would be problematic to run into now...
He pulled himself up so that he was sitting forwards, though he winced while doing so. "I'm hardly on vacation," he muttered, not necessarily to the book. He reached forwards, and carefully took the book up from the ground. He examined it as he dusted off the dirt. "Ruin..." he tried to remember why the Grimoire of Eternity sounded familiar. Had he heard stories of it, too? Perhaps, but he hadn't spent much of his life reading up on folkloric entities. He might decide to change that, if he got out of here. He seemed to be having rather poor luck today.
Maybe this book would change that. A talking book called Ruin had to be worth something. It could be very powerful. It had known his name, too. For a moment he was torn with indecision. It was possible that the book was cursed, and if he opened it, he couldn't help but wonder if he would end up like Robert. Not that he wasn't already halfway there. And if he didn't chance it, the dragon would probably find him and make sure he met his end anyways. Well, crap.
He ran a hand lightly across the cover, and then hooked his fingers beneath it, unclasping it and pulling the Grimoire open." ...тнσugн ρєянαρs, ωнαт тнєy fєαя тнє мσsт, ιs ωнαт тнєy ωιℓℓ uиcσvєя σиcє тнє dαякиєss cℓєαяs. "

"Everything you have ever wanted is within me.."
As Vladimir opened Ruin, words began to spill out onto the pages. Finely drawn pictures and titles came into view as well. Each page held a different spell, incantation, or recipe anyone could ever need. "Think of what you want and I will provide you with the spell to make it so. My pages are endless and know no bounds. For every idea, dream, and desire, there is the perfect spell. Ask it of me, and I will provide you with all that you need." Ruin's voice echoed gently in Vladimir's mind. It was strange, not sounding to be male or female...
Not moments later, the corpse of Robert shook itself up onto its feet. Bone snapping and moving out of place, flesh souring and gaining a green tint. It wasn't long after that Robert's eyes turned blank white and he began to hiss strangely at Vladimir. "Hmm... Poor being, he seems to have turned completely. Why not use me to clean up this problem? You haven't the mana to do it yourself.. Not properly at least. Whisper aloud the words on my pages, grasp my spine in your hand. You needn't worry about anything while you've me to do as you need." Ruin's voice emitted once more into Vladimir's mind.
The dusty pages gave off an earthen scent as they moved about.
"Touch my spine, open my body, and let my insides fulfill your dreams of power."

There was far too much to read, he knew at once that this thing probably held every spell that existed, and possibly more. He felt a surge of something -not quite adrenaline, but close- as he listened to Ruin speak to him. Anything he wanted... the idea was incredibly enticing.
Of course, there was one thing he wanted above all else. My reflection... could there be a spell that would make me immune...? The thought struck him like a ton of bricks. Maybe his life wasn't over after all. Maybe this book could restore him to invulnerability. He wouldn't have to go into hiding after all. If he believed in miracles, this would be one.
He didn't get the chance to ask Ruin about his revelation. At the moment he opened his mouth to speak, Robert came back to life. Sort of. Vlad watched as the now full-fledged zombie mutated and hissed at him. It really was disgusting. But with a frown, he realized Ruin was right. He didn't have enough mana left to effectively destroy the thing. His white, almost translucent hand moved below the book and took hold of its spine, and he looked down at the page it had opened to. He remained seated as he read. He wasn't sure he would be able to stand if he tried.
"Exuro tenus cenere," the words came effortlessly, with a perfected accent as if it hadn't really been the first time he'd even heard of the spell. Red eyes flicked from the book's pages up to the zombified Robert. At first, it seemed as though nothing happened. But suddenly the zombie let out a shriek as flames rose up from the ground at its feet and crashed atop it like a wave. In a moment all that remained of it was ashes.
Vladimir felt a smirk creep across his face as he stared at those ashes. So, the Grimoire had been telling the truth. And even better, he didn't feel like using the spell had effected him at all. In that case, it was likely that it wasn't cursed as he had first thought. But he also realized that the being formerly known as Robert had been quite loud, and from Ruin's previous statements about dragons, Vlad had a feeling that staying here wouldn't be the smartest idea.
With great effort, he used one arm to support himself against the tree as he pulled himself to his feet. He felt his vision swim with dizziness, and knew that this would never do. "I don't suppose you have a spell that could heal me," he breathed, unable to shake his fatigue. He hadn't had enough time to heal naturally, but he didn't doubt that Ruin could help him with this, at least." ...тнσugн ρєянαρs, ωнαт тнєy fєαя тнє мσsт, ιs ωнαт тнєy ωιℓℓ uиcσvєя σиcє тнє dαякиєss cℓєαяs. "You don't have anything else to work with, obviously. I'll give you a basic healing spell that will work over time, that way the mana you have now won't begin to try and mend you body along with the spell." Ruin told Vladimir as the current page began to display the perfect spell for the situation. A well painted picture appeared next to the incantation while a few words appeared under it as to explain a bit more about it. "I would suggest that hurry. The last dragon of this island is approaching and since Robert was the one to finish off its mate, I think it is a bit ornery." Ruin added quickly. "And don't forget to read around the incantation for any helpful tips."

For the best effects of the spell, raise your hands towards the sky and take a deep breath.
Ex divum Ut luna Tribuo meus curatio Tribuo mihi is beneficium Permissum valetudo adveho
Sumo meus manus manus Ut a heft summa EGO tribuo is to order
This spell is most easily cast in darkly lit places or when the moon is visible. After casting the spell, wait a few moments before moving so that the mana can easily attach its self to your insides. All nerve damage and tissue damage can be healed over time, though many times will this spell need be cast.

"Vladimir glanced around himself, making sure there wasn't anything nearby that could interrupt him before looking back down at the page. How convenient, that he didn't even have to flip through the pages to find anything. It just filled itself out to the appropriate spell. And there was even a little picture, how cute. Out of curiosity if nothing else, he ran a finger across the page and then examined it. Not a drop of wet ink, not that he thought there would be any.
He read the spell over several times, making sure he had it memorized before looking up at the sky. He could just barely see the moon through the treetops. It was full, ironically enough. He gave a passing thought to the myth that strange and mystical things always happened on the full moon. And here he was, holding a talking, all-powerful magic book with a possible dragon fight in his future. He almost began to feel bitterly stereotypical as he gently placed the book on the ground and took a deep breath, lifting his hands upwards as the instructions had told.
"Ex divum Ut luna, Tribuo meus curatio, Tribuo mihi is beneficium, Permissum valetudo adveho.
Sumo meus manus manus, Ut a heft summa, EGO tribuo is to order..."
And then he was still. His weary lids fell closed and he simply stood there, like a statue, letting a few precious moments pass by. He could feel something moving about him, like a small wind. It smelled nice. It felt nice, too, and he knew that it was just the spell taking effect. His loose cloak flapped lightly around his ankles and his pain slowly began to ebb. When he felt he should be able to move without falling over, he decided to do just that. Opening his eyes again, he bent over to pick Ruin up once more. All was quiet in Darkwood forest as he turned and began a brisk walk in the opposite direction that Ruin and its corpse had come from.
He only hoped that the leftover dragon was a male- if there was one thing he could happily go the rest of his life without seeing, it was a female dragon whose mate had been slain. 'Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn,' he recalled with dark amusement. But he soon was pulled out of his thoughts by the realization that it was really too quiet. Of course, he realized this just in time for the silence to be broken. He spun around as he heard a loud THUMP! behind him, but there was nothing there. It had taken off, he concluded, and was proved right only by the sound of a giant roar from above him. Gazing upward, he watched as the giant dragon came to a landing only a few feet ahead of him, staring back at him with wild, rage-filled eyes the whole time. "Ruin..." he began with an edgy voice, "I would really appreciate instructions on 'how to slay a dragon', if you would." He might be in the process of healing, but he was nowhere near finished yet. He could not stay alive without Ruin's help." ...тнσugн ρєянαρs, ωнαт тнєy fєαя тнє мσsт, ιs ωнαт тнєy ωιℓℓ uиcσvєя σиcє тнє dαякиєss cℓєαяs. "

"This is a good time to get to know eachother. Why don't we kill the beast in a more indirect manner." Ruin stated rather than asked. It wasn't long before the pages changed completely and displayed to new spells. "If you cast the spells in the order needed, then there won't be a problem. Get ready however, I'm a magic made cannon, you've to be tested first." Even though the voice hadn't much of a tone, it almost seemed like the tome was snickering at the current ordeal.

This spell will make any target you cast it on glow. It doesn't effect the targets physical being, so much as its energy, therefor even the most transparent of enemies can be seen easily.
Ex in ut sicco Addo quartus vestri lux lucis Volo jubilo Sic EGO can animadverto vos in nox noctis
Once the spell is cast, call out the name of your favorite color and the target will glow with that color.

He moved incredibly slowly, taking small, very subtle steps backwards as the two beings had their stare-down. He had to remind himself that sudden moves were not healthy when Ruin caught his attention again. He glanced down at the book, his expression betraying none of his confusion but all of his frustration. "Indirect? Can't I be 'tested' in a situation that is a little less life-or-death?" he hissed quietly at the thing, but found his effort at arguing was futile when a spell began to fill the page.
He afforded himself another glance downward. He promptly lost himself. "Causes the target to GLOW?!" He started, the dragon rearing its legs and letting out an angry cry at his noise. Apparently it thought it was the only one allowed to raise its voice. "I'm about to get eaten and you want me to make the damn thing GLOW?! I don't even have a favorite color! I-" he all-too-quickly remembered his situation and with a start, barely managed to avoid getting clawed. He ducked just under the extended limb of the dragon, and rolled out of the way, clutching Ruin. He fumbled to turn it around in his hands, for he'd somehow managed to get it upside down.
"Ex in ut sicco, Addo quartus vestri lux lucis, Volo jubilo, Sic EGO can animadverto vos in nox noctis!"
He shouted the spell in no small rush, but made sure his speech was clear. He couldn't afford to screw up now that he was actually in danger. Then, quickly, he realized that he DID have a favorite color. "Crimson!" he followed up, finishing the casting. Of course, crimson would quickly become his least favorite color if he saw it leaking from his own body, but he'd had a lot of fun with others' in the past, so it was worth a shot. He was too busy avoiding death by dragon to curse that stupid book for putting him through this." ...тнσugн ρєянαρs, ωнαт тнєy fєαя тнє мσsт, ιs ωнαт тнєy ωιℓℓ uиcσvєя σиcє тнє dαякиєss cℓєαяs. "

Ruins pages seemed to change rapidly after the first spell was cast with succession. "Good, you've got a decent body to last this long. Here is the next spell." Ruin's voice gave off a very proud feeling, though like always, the tone wasn't heard directly. "Cast this on the beast next."
ʘxalita
This spell will let you make a target invisible. Very useful if you are trying to surprise someone or if you wish to sneak quietly away from someplace.
"Nose ut nidor totus Ears ut audite totus Lingua ut sapor totus Fingers ut sentio totus
Effugio eyes Expello Os!"
This spell may make something invisible, but it draws magic towards the target much easier if it is invisible.. Not the best for sneaking around enemies that shoot fireballs.

"Vladimir waited impatiently for Ruin's pages to finish their transformation to the next spell. He did not do so idly, however. The dragon kept that from being possible. He was very glad he'd been able to start the healing spell successfully, because he found himself having more and more ease with dodging the swiping claws and snapping teeth.
He'd even had to escape a fireball. He'd felt as if he'd jinxed himself there, because he had just wondered why the dragon hadn't used any real firepower when he had to dive out of the way, wincing as the tree behind him caught ablaze. 'This would be so much easier if my magic would restore itself faster...' he thought bitterly. Of course, if his magic did get replenished, he would most likely just teleport right out of there instead of bothering to finish the dragon off.
Finally, the next spell formed. Vladimir read it, gawking in confusion once again. Now Ruin wanted to turn it invisible? That made no sense! How was he supposed to kill it if- if...
"Oh, I see!" he said, surprised. Something in his mind had clicked. "The glow was so that I could still tell where it was when it turns invisible... which is only an adverse side effect of the real use of the spell here, to make it more vulnerable to magic..."
He let out a short laugh that seemed very out of place considering his situation. "Am I to guess that the next spell will be an offensive one, or is there mo- Woah!" he had to cut himself off to dodge a swing of the giant beast's tail, and he jumped up onto a lower tree-branch. Oh, good, he could jump pretty far now. Only a matter of time before he was back to normal. He figured he should probably stop babbling and start spell-casting. He focused the spell on the dragon as he cast it.

The pages swiftly changed, from one spell to the next until finally a rather generic spell was found. Generic but powerful. "Cast that. Don't worry about aiming the spell, as you know already, the dragon's light will attract it." Ruins said to Vladimir.
Sky Light--
Calling upon the best intentions you have, calm yourself as much as possible. Hold out your hands and imagine a large pillar of light falling from the sky and decimating your target. Once you've imagined that, try to gather most of your energy into your eyes. Repeat this spell three times and once more imagine the pillar of light ending the life of your target.
"Feeoani Sirrma goeniat Weewmanri Uyrna dia nejaj Yggdalnito FEREO!"
Be sure to put extra emphasis on the word Fereo since that is the main part of the invocation.
