Tyranid Swarm

Tyranids evolved on the planet Char. They quickly consumed the other species on their planet and became the sole species of their world. But, they ran out of food. They ate each other whenever one Tyranid died and they also grew food like they grow everything, but this was just putting off the inevitable. They eventually were able to evolve an organ for their Hiveships that would allow them to enter Hyperspace, and so they have set out into the stars looking for new worlds to feed their insatiable hunger.

When the Tyranids discovered a Human science vessel they boarded the craft and captured most of the crew. They evolved special organs to probe their minds and they discovered the planet called "Earth" although they did not know where it exactly was they knew which general direction to go. On their way they evolved a new caste, creatures that looked Human. These creatures could be left on worlds or ships that had been destroyed for the other Humans to find, and then they would be used as a sort of homing beacon for the rest of the Tyranid Swarm. These creatures are called "Genestealers" and they have full thoughts unlike most of the Swarm.

The Tyranid Swarm is set up in a Caste structure. At the top are the Cerebrates which are essentially large brains. Cerebrates think and strategize for the rest of the Swarm. Below them are the Genestealers since they can think as well. And the rest of the Swarm are at the bottom because they have limited thoughts.

Evolutions
Carapace: Carapace is the tough exoskeleton like armor that all warrior Tyranids have. It can also regenerate at a fairly quick pace.
Acid Tube: Acid Tubes are a set of organs that can spew a very corrosive Acid out towards a target at high speeds. Usually the Acid is condensed into a ball for greater hitting strength and range, although a simple spray works just as well. Acid Tubes have very poor range.

Ground Units

Name: Termagants
Appearance: User Image
Weapons: 2 Claws or 2 Acid Tubes
Description: Termagants are the vicious basic soldier brood of the Tyranids. They are not very smart but incredibly vicious and they rely on their seemingly endless numbers to overwhelm their enemies. They come in two types. Some have long claws that can rip and tear through flesh, and others have 2 acid tubes on the ends of their arms that can corrode through almost any material.

Name: Carnifex
Appearance: User Image
Weapons: Claws
Description: Carnifexs are very large and imposing creatures. Their only weapons are the many claws protruding from their bodies but who needs anything else with their strength?

Space and Air Units

No Tyranids have Energy Shields, instead they simply use their Carapace to protect them. And only Hiveships can enter Hyperspace.

Name: Spores
Appearance: User Image
Weapons: Spontaneous Combustion
Description: Spores fly by lighter than air gases inside their bodies. This gas can take them to incredible heights and they can also ignite this gas at will to explode violently, and their thick carapace serves as deadly shrapnel. Spores can also float in space by using their gas as thrusters.

Name: Mutalisks
Appearance: User Image
Weapons: 1 Acid Tube, Claws
Description: Mutalisks are the basic air and space unit of the Tyranid Swarm. They can use their bat like wings to fly in an atmosphere or to glide on solar winds. Their weapon is an acid tube that is located at the end of their tail.

Name: Hiveship
Appearance: User Image
Weapons: 150-200 Acid Tubes, Tentacles
Description: Hiveships are very unusual craft and very little is known about them except that they are in fact 1 living organism. Somehow they are able to travel through Hyperspace, and their "Hyperdrives" take 24 hours to recharge. They are slow as they are only maneuvered by gases released from various pores in the carapace. Their carapce is very thick and can withstand a direct hit from a Nuclear Warhead and live. Their weapons are the various Acid Tubes on the outside of their carapace and they are used to take out starships that get too close. And they also have tentacles hidden beneath the carapace that can be deployed at any time and latch onto enemy ships. These tentacles then cut into the hull of the ship using acid, and once they are through the tentacle can release an endless swarm of soldiers from the ship like an artery. These ships enter an atmosphere by simply falling to the planet, but once they are caught by gravity they cannot escape so Hiveships must be grown in space by Mutalisks carrying up the eggs. Finally Hiveships serve as carriers for the other Tyranid creatures, and inside their hulls there are 10s of thousands of Tyranids.
