Curled up in the corner of an abandoned corner store, Kayla tried to sleep. Her arms wrapped themselves around her legs, clutching them in fright. She had heard a few noises before, but they were a few blocks away. She had hoped that in a town this size there would be no zombies, and that they would have all migrated to the larger cities with more humans. Although the store was dim, Kayla could see perfectly. There was no other creature in the store, save for a tiny spider also trying to hide the opposite corner of the ceiling. It was a tiny spider, but it still sent Kayla's nerves shivering.
She was wide awake, and she knew she wouldn't get to sleep anytime soon. Finally giving up on her desperate attempt to sleep, she lifted her pale form upright. Shoving her arms in the pockets of her hoody, she wandered over to the nearest shelf, where a bag of chips sat. They were chips, they never go bad, right? After removing the bag from the shelf, she split the top open. Her nostrils were greeted with the greasy aroma of potato chips. Sliding her hand carefully into the bag, she removed a chip and inspected it. Seemed fine. Munching away on it, and a few others after that; she made her way over to the door, peering out of it's thin window. From here, she couldn't see the disgusting haze of what formally was L.A Glancing up at the sky, she noticed that the clouds were making a nice canopy in the sky, shielding the sun from her sensitive eyes. The corners of her lips twitched into a grin, and she opened the door quietly and took a step out into the street.

The streets were empty of any obvious life. The stores along the street were all dark and their windows were all broken.

Glancing up and down the barren street, Kayla decided it would be a good time to take a stroll along the main road. The likelihood of her encountering anyone was close to nil. Her eyes shifted to the broken windows, they wrecked state of the town did make her fearful however. Haunching her shoulders over, as if trying to protect herself, she began her long walk. Her eyes shifting rapidly from shadow to shadow, in search of enemies.

Kayla whipped her head around as her sensitive ears heard a far-off groan. Her heart thundered in her chest. She thought this town would be safe, now it wasn't. There weren't many places to hide at all, she needed to get out of here. Turning her head back around, her eyes followed the long road disappearing into the forest, headed towards Fairfax. It was her best bet, plus her godmother lived there, she could probably grant her shelter and some foot. Two groans sounded this time in the distance, snapping Kayla out of her pondering. Her legs reacted quickly to her paranoia, and pulled her forward into a run. After 5 minutes, the town was obscured by numerous trees, and Kayla slowed to a wake. Her chest heaved, trying to refill her lungs with air. Her arms hung limply at her sides, and her legs ached twice as much as a normal human beings. She was used to this feeling however, and knew she would be okay. She struggled forward, trying to keep up a fast pace.

Back in Claremont gunshots rang out, followed by a series of screams, and then silence....

Kayla twirled around in surprise at the sound of the far-off gunshots and screams. Her pulse increased and she turned around and started back into a run. Her legs screamed with pain at her, but her mind screamed for her to get as far away from the town as possible. She then began to question what it could be, it couldn't possible be zombies firing, they were pretty braindead. Was it humans then? She glanced behind her, pondering if she should go back or not. But her survival instinct overwhelmed her, and she continued on her run.
Soon enough, her legs trembled, feeling numb beneath her. She finally slowed down to a walk, but as her legs realized they were slowing, they decided to make her come to a complete stop. Her legs buckled beneath her, collapsing her to the ground. Rough pieces of gravel dug into her skin, it was uncomfortable to say the least. But she knew if she got up right away her legs would betray her again.

Behind Kayla there is the sound of wings flapping. 2 men with wing in priestly robes land on the house behind her. " Brother Mark we must search here for the one the Exalted Holy One needs. She must not get away." Says the first of the Winged men. They have obviously not seen Kayla yet and don't sound like they mean her well.
( I thought you could use some excitement and sent some mutants that think they are angles to play. Don't worry they suck at hide and go seek. This is just a warning for later.I'm sure you will easily get away. )

Kayla's head jolted up from the gravel covered ground. The faint flutter of wings had caught her attention, and now there was talking. She didn't concentrate hard enough to be able to pick up the first part of the sentence, but caught their last statement. Her heart, that was finally calmed, drove straight into a fast beat once again. Struggling upright, she fought against her jello-like legs, which wobbled and threatened to collapse again on her. She took hurried steps forward, still following the road. She didn't want to get lost in the thick forest or exhaust herself once again by breaking out into a run.

Noticing the movment in the street the winged men suddenly started wispering. "Is that her?" asked the first. " Does it matter the Exalted one needs more converts anyway. Lets grab first and ask questions later." With that they started running allong the rooftops after Kayla

Turning her head, Kayla glanced behind her, checking to see if the people she had heard before were following. Of course, they were. She first tried to increase her pace, but her legs quickly demolished that idea by making her collapse to the ground as soon as she increased her pace. The 'angels' were gaining on her. Heaving herself off the gravel ground, her head flicked around in panic. Where was she suppose to go? Her eyes locked onto the deep forest to her left. With an unsatisfied groan, she began stumbling towards it. She fell down in the ditch between the road and the forest a couple of times, but finally crawled back up to normal ground and continued her staggering walk towards the forest.
( I like the little surprise and the whole idea for the people thinking their angels and stuff in general :] It's going to be a lot of fun to see how it works out )

The angles took to the air as the girl reached the forests edge. " Don't let her get away" the first yelled as they entered the forrest. " Dam girl taking us into a place our wing are useless in" said the second. At this they took off after her on foot.
( gotta head to work so I wont be able to post till after 10 or 11.)

As Kayla could hear the footsteps quickly getting closer to her, she knew outrunning them would end badly. Wobbling over to the nearest tree, she grasped the lowest branch and heaved herself up. From there, she struggled from branch to branch till she thought she was properly hidden within it's tangle of branches. Her heart thundered as she waited for them to pass by, hoping that they hadn't seen her climb into the tree, or would see her sitting in it. Opening her sweater a bit, she removed a small gun from a self-sown pocket on the inside. Clutching it as if it was her last hope... Well, it was, she sat waiting.
( Okay, I'll probably be asleep by then, heh. I like my sleep x] )

The mock angels were closing in and they knew it. Just a little more and they would have the girl, or so they thought. Almost as if by magic she vanished. " Where did she go?" the leader asked his companion. " I don't know and I Don't care lets get out of here. The woods are no place for blessed beings like us. If she was not a demon sent to tempt us we can find her easaly enough from the air in a place with less.....trees." And with that they moved off leaving the poor girl alone in the woods.
( thanks for playing with me. As soon as I think its a good time I might bring some more dangerous zealots to play )

( No problem, it was fun ^^ And that sounds like a whole lot of RP fun! biggrin )
Kayla waited until the sound of wings vanished. By now, her legs had fully rested. Tucking her pathetic little gun back into her pocket, she climbed back down the tree, landing lightly on the ground beneath it. What were they? She never actually saw them, but they sounded human, and there was an almost constant sound of wings. She'd just have to find out later, maybe. Turning her head, she surveyed the forest, trying to figure out which way the road was. Squinting, she could see a large gap of light far to her left. Smiling, she wandered back onto the road and continued her journey.
Finally, she got to the road, but she didn't leave the forest's edge, knowing it was the only good place for her to hide. She walked along it for some time, before coming across a car, pulled over to the side of the road. She paused, and listened closely. No noise, no heartbeats. Cautiously, she sneaked up to the side of the car, and peered in. Nothing. The keys were in the ignition too. It puzzled her a bit, but she settled with the idea that zombies might have dragged the driver out into the woods. Opening the door, she hopped in the small car and buckled herself in. As she gripped the steering wheel she felt a little odd; stealing someone's car like this. Well, there was nobody here, and it was a pretty odd place to park it. With that in her mind, she turned the ignition and drove off, heading towards the safe haven she hoped would be Fairfax.
