As the sun started to peak over the eastern mountains Cedric awoke. He sat in bed for a moment, and then crawled out and put on his clothes, wound up his watch, and grabbed his weapons. He did his rounds through his house to make sure that all of the windows and doors were still secure, then he went to the front door. He looked outside through the slot in the metal barricade, and then went outside, and locked it after him and set up the trip mine as well. He took a deep breath of the forest air. Out here the many toxins in the atmosphere were lessened and one might even think that their knowledge of the outside world was just a bad dream, but it was not. Cedric went to the garage and got into his Humvee.
Cedric drove down the empty back roads, trying his best to avoid the many potholes. He drove into the town of Fairfax, into a neighborhood he had been foraging from for the past week or so. He didn't remember how long it had been. Days, weeks, months, they all seemed the same now. He came to a part of the neighborhood he had not explored yet and parked his car. The house we was starting at today was a nice sized one story house. It probably looked quite nice in better days, but now most of the windows were out and the paint, siding, and shingles were all in great need of repair. Cedric took his gun off his shoulder and held it at the ready and then walked up to the house. He tried the doorknob, it was locked. Cedric took a step back and then kicked the door in, it swung open and Cedric cautiously went inside, keeping his senses open to detect anything unfriendly...

A ominous shadow lurked at the top of the stairs leading to the second floor, but it slithered out of view. Every so often, the floorboards on the upper floor would creek, could it be the house contracting and expanding with the temperature? Or something else entirely...

Cedric heard the creaking of floorboards and quickly aimed his gun upstairs, but he didn't see anything. He turned on the flashlight that was taped to the barrel of his gun. Cedric wasn't sure what might be in this house, but he knew the first thing to do was to open the windows and get as much light in the house. It would reveal anything hidden, and scare away the more dangerous of possible threats... So Cedric cautiously entered the living room and started opening the curtains.
(I forgot to add it into the description, but I think Zombies should be sensitive to light, and so only hunt in the dark. Like in I Am Legend, except they don't die by light...)

( Hm, that'd make sense, cause if they hunted in the dark their eyesight would have to be more sensitive, and the light would then probably hurt their eyes. )
The faintest groan floated down the stairs into the living room. This time it wasn't the house, it had more human qualities. Then there was more creaking of floorboards, a thud, and then silence once again.

Cedric heard the sound and spun around, but with light all around him he could not see into the darkness of the entry room... He had a gut feeling of what was there, but he asked anyway, "who is there? Come out now or you will die."

There was a small gurgle, and then the sound of something fumbling up the stairs, back to the second floor. The thuds of footsteps were now very obvious, but there was an odd sound mingled with it. The sound of dragging.

Cedric's heartbeat started getting faster, he cautiously went around the bottom floor, looking for any other threats and opening the windows, and then he returned to the stairs. After considering his options he decided he had to go up them. So, with his gun at the ready, he started up the stairs.

Another gurgle sounded, followed by a squelch, and the sound of something rubbery and moist being thrown about. Whatever it was, it was to preoccupied to notice Cedric.

Cedric swung his gun that way, it's flashlight was still on but he saw nothing. He reached into on of the pouches he had and produced and emergency flare, he got ready to use with his other hand.

The sound seemed to be coming for the first bedroom on the right. The only light that entered the room was between the thin gaps in the blinds. On the floor, there was a distorted black blob that moved around freakishly. Finally it noticed that it was no alone on the upper floor, and paused. A faint dripping sound could be heard still emanating from the room, like water falling on hardwood floor.

Cedric spotted the moving mass and fired a 3 round burst of tracers into it. Cedric's philosophy was shoot first, ask for forgiveness later.
(If you don't know Tracers are like... sorta like flaming bullets, when fired a chemical ignites on their surface, so they light up. It is a chemical fire that helps to shoot at night, and it also burns the target a bit...)

( Thank you for the explanation ^_^ I am female, we usually don't know things like that xD'')
The blob was quickly lit up, just enough to see two human figures; one haunched over the other. The haunched over figure seizured as the bullets pierced through it. An angry gurgling sound erupted from it's blood soaked mouth, and it staggered clumsily towards Cedris with outstretched hands, trying to take hold of his throat and choke him. The other figure lay quietly on the ground, twisted in an uncomfortable position. There wasn't enough light to see exactly what it was quiet yet.

Cedric fired another three round burst into the chest of the creature, hoping that would be enough to bring it down.
(lol, ok. I didn't know it until a few years ago. if you would like to know they are laced with magnesium to create the chemical reaction. They are illegal in California for civilians... oh and fighter planes and artillery vehicles often use them to better see where their bullets are going )

( Nifty 3nodding )
The zombie shuddered once more then collapsed onto the floor at Cedric's feet. Still, the figure in the room did not move.
(I'm guessing the lights are still off in the room and you can't see anything... Oh, by the way, I'm going to reference my character here a bit ^_^ You'll see, mwhaha)
