We all hear about some kid buying and bringing in a skyline or something for more than the car is actually worth.
We all hear about stupidly expensive cars that become very popular, and earn amazing reputations aoungst the general populace.

So this thread is dedicated to, old man cars, hunks of junk, and highly modified sleepers that DESTROY track times, high end cars that cost too much, and more importantly destroy egos and braggards.

Post em if you got ém.

I know I'm missing a big one, but I'll let someone post that car... and no, it's not any of the pieces of s**t from Initial D.

Contrary to the trend, the Bugs have a HUGE history of success in motorsport and are competitive even today in certain events(one even placed in the top ten at the Bathurst Hillclimb late last year) They're truly ageless! Try this on for size:

Ford's Escort Cossie RS. THE original 4WD turbo hot hatch. Its an old car, but even today they are ahead of any turbo-4. No other small engine produced can hold 3BAR(yes, 3BAR) as reliably as the lump in this thing, in fact, the Cosworth ECU's when released back in the day, knocked boost up that far. Throw 3BAR at the strongest 4cyl of today(the 4G63T) all day, everyday like they did with the Cossies? You'll probably separate the head from the block in short order.

He comes from a more modern time bro, I don't think many young people today are even aware of the Cossie and what it stood for way back when. If you think AMS and their 900hp Evo are way ahead of the pack, you need a history lesson: the YBT was tuned to even higher levels over a DECADE ago. In fact the reason I ended up with the Evolution was because I couldn't afford to have one of these imported as a race car(I prefer driving mechanical than electronic assisted; I can't use the brakes without the ABS kicking in and shooting me into the apex late. Hence I need to brake frustratingly early)

Hopefully one day.

Lets not forget these Fords.

In this day and age those cars would certainly look dated and slow.

But 'here's one I nearly forgot.

The Lotus Carlton. Aparently based on a Vaxhall/Opel if I'm not mistaken.

Aw yeah, the Sierra. Man those looked like crap but went like stink!
PostPosted: Thu Feb 05, 2009 11:00 pm

Yup, they do look like s**t. Which is what makes them great for being a sleeper. (if your girlfriend doesn't want to get in it, and it goes like stink = sleeper smile )
And parts are generally pretty cheap. At least over here they are.
Perhaps not parts for the engine though...if you had a cossie.

Here's another monster from back in the day:

Opel's Calibra 4x4 turbo. The Cossie's direct competitor on the bitumen surface.
