Yuki had hurried to make it back to the Training Grounds in time for his first training battle. Him, in a training battle! He bowed to his opponent, glancing up to see that he had been paired with a young Meecio male for his first time. He hoped they'd go easy on him, at least to start with. As soon as he straightened from his bow, he spun and struck out with his stick.

Daffyd watched the Teolli hurry towards him, and drop into a quick bow. The small albino returned the favor, a distant smile on his soft features. The other boy looked nervous as he wielded his pointed stick. Not that Daffyd didn't feel a flutter of nerves in his stomach over this first match ... But still, he didn't think it was all over his face.
Caught in his thoughts, Daffyd just noticed Yuki's lunge towards him, stick flying. He just managed to side step, cursing himself silently for his folly of under estimating the fast moving boy.
"Close!" It wasn't shouted in a taunting manner, but a happy laughing one. Daffyd had been looking forward to this experience for a long time. And now it was his turn to try and strike a blow. He lept forward, stick raised high, hoping for the best.

Yuki tried, he really did, but he couldn't dodge the incoming stick fast enough. It stung where it hit, and he clicked his beak in a silent yelp before skittering back for a moment to regain his balance. It didn't take long and he was darting back in, slashing towards his partner with his stick.

The contact from the stick shook his small frame, and he gritted his teeth. This wasn't so easy! And they were only hitting each other around with sticks! What on earth was he going to do when he finally graduated to a real weapon? All the reading in the world hadn't prepared Daffyd for reality.
Suddenly once more his feathered opponent was darting forward, stick ready to smack Daffyd hard across the arm. The Meecio dropped to his knees and half rolled to the side, avoiding the swipe.
He bounded up to his feet, bringing his stick down in a swing from over his head.

Yuki stumbled to a stop to try and avoid the blow, but he didn't stop in time and still got a smack upon his head for his troubles. He rubbed at the sore spot ruefully before reaching out to take another swipe at the Meecio before scurrying to get out of range of his partner's stick.

This time Daffyd was more prepared to the shuttering contact from the blow. His arms still shook a little, but it wasn't a shock this time. In truth, he felt a little bad for the other boy, certainly the blows had to sting and smart.
A quick step back allowed him very narrowly avoid the other boy's blow. He quickly darted in, stick flashing before him, hoping for his third hit.

Yuki could only sigh as he got stuck a third time. He just wasn't cut out for melee combat apparently. He would do the best he could though. He dashed back in, and dashed past his partner this time, swinging behind him as he darted past out of range.

With his third strike in a row being successful, Daffyd began to feel quiet confident. Clearly, a little too confident. As Yuki dashed behind him, he was all but oblivious to what the other boy was planning. That was, until the stick smacked him firmly across his back.
The blow certainly did sting, and snapped the albino back to his sense. Now this was getting serious. He darted forward, swinging underhand in a very poor approximation of a movement he'd once seen a properly trained warrior make.

Yuki managed to spin in time to see the incoming attack and jumped backwards out of the way. As soon as his talons touched the ground he lunged forward, taking another swipe at his Meecio partner as he dashed straight past him and beyond.

Daffyd felt winded. Bah, he clearly wasn't in as prime of shape as he had thought. His own attack had missed, the lighter oppented had nimbly dodged it. And then, to add insult to injury, the others boy's stick struct a hard home against his arm, the one holding his own stick.
Inadvertently, he let a surprised "Ow!" slip from his mouth. He frowned for a moment, embarrassed with himself. He then lunged forward, abandoing the fancy style and simply trying to put force behind it.
