well....if you don't kill him quickly he'll have the chance to strike back...and it should definately be public......
if no body knows that he was killed then what's the point?
also...make it bloody...you need to catch the crowd's attention

So we are talking about the Public exhibition option. Let's get specific.
It should be bloody and spectacular. Therefore that implies elegant killing.
Should we torture him first?
I think we should, just killing him might make the show boring.
And for how long?
Although it would be fun we can't make it too long or they'll be bored too.
What methods should we use?
We should try to be creative and give the crowd something new and horrifying they haven't seen before.
Do we use special killing machines?
Those are expensive...
Mutilation?
It might get too bloody, but I don't mind it if you're cleaning after it.
Should we do it old school with axes, strings and those thingies used in the French revolution or use new spectacular technology like laser devices and sharp blades?
I haven't presenced many public murders with new technology devices where only one person died...we could try to mix both techniques...but I don't know if the whole thing will work out.
Sooooooo...feedback?

in the end it's up to you, your the one doing the killing after all
but, i would capture him, use a bladed weapon to carve intracite designs in his skin, without actually breaking the skin.
then i would find a nice high up place to hang him upside down from,cut sever the cordid artery in his neck for the killing blow and disappear into the shadows before any body notices what has happened.
.....but that's just me
[any thing can be an artform, just this type is kinda.....rare]
