So I got myself a job. A proper job downtown in a high rise with corporate parties and all that nonsence.
Got me thinking that in a year or two I might be able to afford another car, something that I can use to get to work and back, and maybe use on the track.

I think that a Honda Civic has loads of potential. Its not all that bad looking, and there's a huge aftermarket for them.

So what would you do to it, if you had one? (And you couldn't give it away/sell it.)

Are you talking about getting a CTR to start with or just that body style?

Regardless the first thing I would do is an engine swap. The B16B is a little low on the torque so I would replace it with a B18C and do basic bolt-ons I/H/E then build the suspension up.

Ah this is a good one, quite fast on the track. Just be sure you can get the Japanese Type-R body shell, as it has some extra reinforcements. Anyhoo, if this is going to be a daily driver you shouldn't do too much to it just for trackwork. Makes it too uncomfortable and it might get twitchy if you put in an aggressive alignment. So suspension, definitely. Brakes, DEFINITELY, engine swap, maybe. Keep the interior, definitely. Bushing kit and suspension arms, not really necessary unless you take your trackwork THAT seriously.

*Laughs.* You knew I was going to tell you to sell it!

Anyway, since I can't sell it... I'd trade it in for an RWD car, especially if you're going to track it. I feel I have a huge disadvantage in my car because it's FWD. And for whatever reason, around fast sweeper freeway onramps, Jennifer feels lighter than Haley because I can get on the gas and go faster without plowing.

Is that the exact kind of Civic you'll be getting, the Type R? Or are you going to be getting a janky base/mid trim? If you're getting a Type R, I don't see any reason you should modify it. It looks good, and it goes decently well. The suspension is already tuned for sporty driving, and you have a good engine.

I would chop it up and make it into a Civette.
LS1 in a Civic, can anyone say sleeper.

Buy a Civic as a road car, only do some minor things to it like better rims and stuff like that. And worry about your Alfa.

Imagine the Alfa with a Big Block. You'd be talk of the town. twisted

I love the Civic hatches, especially that particular body style. I'd probably rice the hell out of it, honestly. I dunno...

- Different rims, I'm obsessed with the Enkei ES6 in black w/ gunmetal lip

- Carbon fiber hood

- Projector headlights

- B16 or B18 motor would be fine, don't really care much for making it fast, I just like the way it looks.

- Full exhaust, but nothing retarded, I'd just want a nice tone to it.

More like he'd be scattered all over town if he loses it. rofl JK But yer. FWD is a whole nother ball game, and you need to be able to brake LATE to use it correctly. LATE. As in be aggressive as in order to combat the understeer; you're throwing ALL of the car's weight onto the front wheels, and at times even lifting the rear. You know how the old schoolers tell you that a car turns fastest with all four wheels on the ground? Well. FWD turns fastest with three. mrgreen

It was just a thought.
For like after I buy a motorbike and move out.

I don't think they brought down the Type Rs, at least not the proper ones.
I'd be looking at that body style.
but I wouldn't do a engine swap, or at least it would be the last thing on the list if the motor wasn't a VTECH.
I'd probably do suspension first.

And I agree that RWD cars are nicer to drive through corners and I like how you just turn them and the turn (usually)
I'm not really one to stand on the brakes and get them warm.
I try to have more of a relaxed driving style as opposed to something that is frantic. But I'll stand on the brakes if that is what is needed.

If I was to get a civic, it'd be suspension, tires and rims, then perhaps the brakes to at least type R spec or size or whatever. i would be using it on the street' after all. Engine power would probably be one of the last things I'd want to change. I would like to get someware on a tank of petrol.
Especially since Bella is one thirsty gal.

fixed that for yah.

in all seriousness, with the 96-00 civic, its really Type R or nothing.
if you were to get a mid or even low trim, theres a lot you would want to do...

suspension from the Type R, brakes from the R, chassis reinforcement. I've driven one, they flex quite a bit. a D-series engine will get you the gas mileage you want.

i disagree about the B18C being better... the B16B puts out more HP-per-liter than the B18s...

thats my two cents, I almost bought a 00 Hatch that was converted to a type R replica before I bought my first del Sol. woulda been a lot more fun, for sure.

the only thing with the 'EK' body style, is that you dont have the compatibility of all the other civic and integra parts.

Because we all know that peak HP/L is more important than a broader torque curve and how much actual HP is being put out? razz

There's another factor that's overlooked by most other people except B16 users: these engines can take 10,000rpm easily(Type-R ONLY, BTW) Its peak power isn't that high, BUT, when you stretch out the rev range that far the area under the graph grows like crazy.

I still can't get used to my engine going up to nearly 8k, I can't imagine driving a car that can rev to 10k or more.

My Trooper and Ranger (which total lasted me about 4 or 5 years) all stopped somewhere between 5 and 6k. The truck was a V6, so that makes since.
