Concerning Laura not seeing the monsters...
Well, Angela is the only one who sees the fire all the time, as she said: "For me, it's always like this."
James doesn't see the fire because he didn't burn his house down.
He is attacked by vicious monsters because he's a bad, bad man.
What did Laura do besides be REALLY annoying? She could be a manifastaion, I can dig that, but the town having her go there could have just been another way to make James feel even more crappy.

AHEM, now, I don't think Silent Hill is a bunch of stoned morons killing each other. Nope. No way. I could let my little mind wrap around the fact that they are drugged, imagining this place, and not really fighting monsters, but not... you know...drugged and actually killing people. Just sayin'.
I don't believe they're killing real people. The 'monsters' may have been people at some point, but I don't believe they are when they're spitting acid on you while you try to crush their skulls with a pipe.
Interesting theories all the same.
