In what appears to be a courtroom, sits a large, handsome man of uncertain age behind a gigantic desk. His gavel itself is about the size of an actual person, just to give an idea on how big he is.
He is the acting judge, the one who is to deal out the sentence, but actually he is much more...
Behind him is the back wall. Against the wall to one side of him is another desk at which 12 others, male and female, sit, fearfully waiting for their punishment as they know that they are guilty.
To the other side of him is one man, a young man who stands serenely and silently, taking in all events that occur here.
The rest of the room are seated many witnesses for the events of this day.
"I hereby declare that you 12 by the names of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Hestia, Ares, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Hermes and Hephaestus, are sentenced to Earthly life, for the following crimes:
- Misleading the Earth's people into worship of yourselves and the things which I have given you, as a gift, power over, rather than me.
Quarrelling in Heaven, turning my Abode into your own personal warzones.
Attempting to keep it a secret from me and therefore declaring that you are more powerful than I when in fact you are not.
These are the crimes that you yourselves have committed and you shall suffer the penalty for them. You are sentenced to live on the earth until you learn true remorse for your actions."
A wise look came over the old Judge's face.
"This punishment may not be what it seems. Perhaps you shall find that the Earth is not quite as good to you as you thought it would be during your previous revelries with the humans.
If you die before making restitution for your crimes, you will not return to heaven, No, you will continue in punishment for time eternal."
With a flash of light, the twelve on trial disappeared and were placed on earth, scattered about the earth. Each of them, however, appeared as humans themselves, alone and naked in the wilderness, or washed up on a beach somewhere, and they knew no languages to communicate with the people.
The Greek Pantheon and their activities before punishment:
Zeus
Known as god of the weather, Zeus was king of the gods in greek mythology. He hurled down mighty thunderbolts on all who opposed his will and his domain was the storm.
Zeus's parents are Rhea and Cronus. Rhea saved him from the terrible fate of his siblings that was being swallowed by their father Cronus. When he reached manhood, Zeus then forced Cronus to vomit up his brothers and sisters, who then became the gods of Olympus and rebelled against Cronus and the giants who ruled the earth in those days, the Titans. In a great battle, Zeus and his siblings won and sent Cronus and the Titans to Tartarus, a place of eternal torment where the hundred-armed giants guarded him.

OTHER STUFF:
Demeter
Demeter means "Mother Earth". Specifically, she was the goddess of vegetation and the fruitfulness of the land. Myths about her explain inconsistency of harvests, the turn of the seasons and summer and winter.
Demeter was a very loving mother and her relationship with Zeus produced a daughter, Persephone. While she was still very young and without consulting Demeter, Zeus agreed that Hades could marry Persephone. A few years later when she was picking flowers in a field, the ground cracked open and Hades came out in a chariot drawn by blue steeds; Hades kidnapped her.
Demeter was inconsolable when her daughter vanished and took two burning torches to search the earth for her. She refused to eat or wash until she found her daughter, as did Persephone pining away in Hades' gloomy kingdom. Demeter then met Hecate who took her to sun god Helios who told her what had happened. Persephone was allowed to return home after Demeter sent a famine over the earth, but was bound to Hades' realm and returned there every winter.
Hestia
Goddess of the hearth and home. Hestia swore on Zeus' head to remain a virgin for all time, even declining offers of marriage. Due to this Hestia preserved peace in Olympus. On one occasion at an outdoor feast, all the Gods had fallen asleep and Priapus tried to violate her, but a donkey brayed and she woke up and screamed so loudly that he departed in fright.
She is calm and charitable and often called upon for protection. Misfortune would come to anyone who tried to violate a person under Hestia's protection.
Ares
God of WAR. Ares had no wife and fell under the spell of Aphrodite constantly, producing four children. Zeus ended their liaison.
Ares was believed to have a lust for violence and cruelty and such a vicious deity was not considered trustworthy.
Athena
Virgin goddess of war, wisdom and arts and craft. Athena sprang forth when Hephaestus released her from Zeus' head by splitting it open with an axe. The story behind this is that Zeus had a first wife named Metis who he swallowed while still pregnant, so Metis gave birth to the child inside his head.

Some parts of her body were covered with lightweight armour, and she used to have a flowing white dress and sandles. But.. since she is put back on Earth during the trial, she won't have the same outfit anymore, though she'll probably try to acquire it.
HISTORY BEFORE THE TRIAL: Athena used to be a goddess of many things. This was mainly war, wisdom and arts and crafts. She had quite a lot of power therefore, but because of the wisdom which she also had, she used that power wisely. She helped the people of her favourite country and whom worshipped her was under her protection. She was a very popular goddess who could make peace between other gods who were fighting.

Apollo with his high moral and intellectual status ranked him highly as a nurturer of civillization. Inaugurated at the Oracle of Delphi, it was after this that he became associated with music, medicine and archery.
Artemis
Goddess of the chase, the forest and wild animals... Artemis and Apollo are said to be born of Zeus and the Titaness, Leto. The twins suffered persecution at the hands of Hera. Artemis can also be very fierce- In one story, her favourite follower, the nymph Callisto bore a child, Artemis was enraged at her lost virginity and so changed her into a bear to hunt with arrows. Another story tells that the hunter Actaeon claimed to be a better hunter than she, so she turned him into a stag and he was then eaten by his own dogs.
Her harshness and wild-ness made her somewhat dangerous and so she was appeased with great care and received numerous sacrificial rituals in attempts to win her favour.
Aphrodite
Greek goddess of love, beauty and fertility. Aphrodite's name comes from the greek word "Foam" (Aphros) which refers to her birth at sea. Her four children by Ares are as follows: Deimus (Fear), Phobus (Panic), Eros (Love) and Harmonia (Harmony). She was punished by Zeus for bearing children out of wedlock and so she in turn punished him by making him chase after women and neglect his wife, Hera.
Hermes
Messenger of the gods, and escort of the dead to Hades. Also god of trade and commerce. Hermes invented the Lyre after he killed a tortoise and stretched strings across it's shell, an invention he gave to Apollo to appease him after he stole some of Apollo's cattle, and in this way escaped punishment. He became a patron of thieves and Zeus often relied on his wit.
Hephaestus
He was the divine craftsman who built the palaces for the gods to live in luxury. He constantly had a limp and a sooty face from his work, which made him a figure of fun. His life was a series of misfortunes, first being flung from Olympus when he was born, because his mother Hera was disgusted at his dwarfish shape. She flung him into the sea but he was saved and raised secretly by the nymphs Thetis and Eurynome. They taught him the art of metalwork and in time he created a pretend gift for his mother, trapping her until he agreed to release her, by which they were reconciled and Hera gave him a workshop and married him to Aphrodite. He criticized Zeus for punishing Hera and so he was again thrown out of Olympus. He set up a forge at the volcano he was near, and taught the inhabitants of the locale metalwork. He was again pardoned and allowed back into Olympus, however he could only walk with golden crutches. Hephaestus created Pandora.
This is the story of what happens to these 12 in their time upon the earth.
Other notes:
They are given earthly lifespans and mortal bodies.
I've changed my mind, I think this would be most fun played out in modern times. It's current. Because I'm having a hard time imagining this any other way. And I'm starting it because I hate waiting for joiners. Seeing as we're all spread out, we can keep accepting profiles along the way, because we all have to find each other anyway.
