Some of our newer and invited members may not be aware of our humble begginings, so I've created this thread to pay homage to the greatest thread ever to grace the Chatterbox. * * I mean that not in a gloating way, but in a way that I thank the origional dedicated members of the thread for making it as successful as it was! The link to the thread can be found here. It all began one cold Michigan day in the United States of America, when a young Gaian by the name of Reesu was browsing the chatterbox. It was December 25, 2004 and the Annual Gaian Kissing event was in full-swing. It was this day, at 9:06 AM, that the literate Reesu La realized just how disgusted she was at the abundance of illiterate kissing threads there were running rampant on Gaia. At that moment, Reesu did something almost unheard of... She created a literate thread in the chatterbox. Unexpectadly, the thread took off- needing only one gently B.U.M.P. (written "Bring Up My Post) to force the thread into popularity. The thread was a success. After a few days, the thread earned some regulars, some flames and a whole lot of kisses. (Fortunately, for the flames, there was the trusty "Delete Post" Option.)Eventually, the idea of a Literate Guild was brought about. Within weeks LOLOMFG was created to celebrate Literacy throughout Gaia. Add thoughts, memories and honors here!(Eventually this will become a sticky. whee )

Interesting. I would've joined in but I couldn't have possibly have seen the thread title due the nature of bumping threads in the Chatterbox. Seriously, threads are bumped at a rate of around 39 per second. xp

Ah yes, I remember it well. It was around noon and I was browsing the chatterbox when something unthinkable happened. I saw a literate thread...in the chatterbox! So I entered in amazment, and made my first post at around page 50, give or take. I even remember the original title. *nods* Kissing Thread-For the Literate. Then, due to the bumpers, (Please Don't Bump) was added. *mutters about flaming the bumpers*

Personally, I discovered it through Moo - her and I were bumping and tagging with the kisses, and she disappeared so I hunted her down. =} I became very attatched.

One winter morning in December, I felt the need to post on this site. Still being a Noob, I had no idea where to go to meet nice people. It was in the chatterbox that I noticed a thread for Literate Gaians. Out of curiousity, I ventured inward. To my discovery, the thread was filled with kind and intellegent people who wanted a place to call their "spam-free" own. Thus I became hooked, and enjoyed friendly posts with other Literate Gaians ever since!

A bunch of us poking around in IRC from ED decided to invade the Chatterbox to amuse ourselves. And whaddya know? The Kisses for Literate People thread piqued my interest. All of a sudden, I called a bunch of my ED friends over, and we poked the thread. And got LITERATE KISSES OMG!!1111 Most left, but Maiyra and I stuck around.

Yay for guild newbies!
I'm not all that much of a Chatterboxer... I normally spend my time in the R+C and AT... We have literate people there, you see.

I'm just here to flex my literate muscles ^-^'. Nothing too grotesque. Can we add this to some quote-whoring webpage, Helen? Why yes, we can.

I recall some individual doing just that on our literate sister thread, The Literacy Cafe in the Chatterbox. Ah, the old cafe... I think I'll pop back in and rekindle something. 3nodding

As y'all might know, we got our roots from the much-loved December 2004 Christmas Kissing Event. Guilds were closed down. The marketplace was glitchy as heck, and barely worked. Trades were totally spazzing. You could ONLY post in the forums.
So, people wandered about the different forums, kissing people at random. Why at random? Because you only had the option to kiss people at random intervals. So, whoever was on the page got a quick smooch. It made it so that lurkers could be known too! I'd sometimes wander into a thread, smooch someone really quickly, and dash off. Other times, I'd post in a particular place, hang our for a while, and spread the luff to everyone. It was so much fun!
Reesu noticed that there weren't any kiss me threads for literate people. Being a woman of action, she created one! All of a sudden, all these lurking literates came out of nowhere, and hung out with us. After a while, we decided that the new friends we'd all made were too cool to lose, just because the kissing event was over. So, Reesu changed the name of the thread, and we still hung around.
It got to the point where we knew we needed a guild.
We started with roughly 20 members. The rules were laid down, the spam was snipped, the people were accepted, I was made a guild mod, and all those other really important things for every guild to succeed. Things were very quiet in here. In came more members from the thread. We started posting in earnest. In came more people from the sigs that we had. Slowly but surely, the LOLOMFG guild went from the last spot of the "My Own Guilds" page to quite close to the top!
I went by my guilds page, and was about to click on our guild.
I paused.
Eighty five members. We're a little under three months old, and we've got EIGHTY FIVE MEMBERS! Who knew? o.O
Where do you think we'll be a year from now? Do you think that the Gaia admins will release the kissing event again? Do monkey pants really look that cute?
