Saphire had been exploring the whole of the morning, finally shaking loose her perpetual shadow of Van Helsing when he was called away by Nek to deal with Ropin. Now she was free to venture wherever she wished. Though that did little to cheer her of the funk that had surrounded her the past few weeks, the funk that revolved around her curs-ed curs-edness.
Since she was trapped as a child she could not partake in the training or the ritual or anything to become the warrior that she wanted to be. It had been her deicision early on that she would be a warrior someday, but as of yet she was unable to find a way to break her stupid curse. If she ever ran into the Halloween god that had given her the little gift of remaining a permachild, she determined to kick him where it hurts, and hard.
Little good that did her now, wandering the empty halls as if she were just what she appeared. A little child, dragging along a rusted dagger behind her, the small glimmerings of a bracelet on her wrist drawing the eye into the scene of one who was lost and saddened by the fact. Saphire shook her head; never would she be such a pathetic thing. Instead she stood as tall as she could and continued with her exploration in earnest.

Scurrying along the musty-smelling corridor, Colby paused for a moment, his nose in the air, sniffing. He did it more out of habit than actual practicality; there wasn't much to smell except for mildew, but he liked the feel of pausing and twitching his nose like.....well, like a rat. Far from feeling sad about his predicament, Colby was enjoying himself. In fact, the more he scampered about acting like a rat, the more he seemed to forget that he was once something else entirely. He had missed it at first, but he decided that it wasn't so bad. It had even led him to discover his favorite new food; cheese. Still, he felt as though he could do without his nerves; every little sound seemed to make him jump and cower, his heart thumping in his mouth. His guardian was very patient with him, but she never seemed to get him enough cheese; Colby thought it was because she was under the impression that it wasn't proper gargoyle food. So he had snuck out of their room to find the kitchen and more cheese, but instead he had found this musty corridor. He wasn't really bothered until his ears picked up signs that there was someone else in the corridor. Eyes widening, Colby scampered to the wall where he pressed his back to it, trying to stay still.

Never would Saphire accept her fate. At first she had been excited; making freinds with another permachild named Nix, having fun fluttering her wings about and annoying various other Goyals, even meeting a permateen goyal called Van Helsing who stated himself as her silent bodyguard without actually saying anything.
But that had soon grown tiresome and she longed for something more to do. After spending a year trapped in a child's body while her intellect and desire to learn new things continued to grow, things could get a little redundant. She couldn't do this, she couldn't do that, she was too young for that. Dagnabit! She wasn't young at all! It had been over a year since she had been cursed and she had seen various other orbs be hatched and grow into adults while she herself moved from being ranked above them to quickly dropping below what they thought of as their own status in the castle.
She was sick of it, and that wasn't even the worst part. Well, she had already mentioned the worst part, but she could again simply because it was made all the more irksome the more she thought of it. Since se was cursed to a small, frail, and ungrowing body she could never be what she truely longed to be. A Warrior.
Oh how she wanted to be able to fight and defend her Clan and do everything within her power to keep it safe. To be able to do something and make something of herself instead of being dragged to the sidelines and having her eyes covered at every conflict. But no, until she could figure out some way to break the stupid curse she was trapped as she was, small, young, and seemingly helpless.
Her rusted dagger gave out a small screech as she dragged it across the ground, making her look down at it and then hold it up in front of her gallantly. She was just like the dagger; no one thought any use could be made of her, but by dangit she would make it so there was something she could be used for!
A small sound drifted into her ears as she stay standing still and looking at the dagger, making her whip around and point her daggers at the shadows. "Who goes there?" she called, falling into her game mode of pretending to be a Warrior already, "Are ye freindly or foeish?"

Twitching his ears, Colby heard the challenge and tried to piece it together. The voice didn't sound familiar, but then again, he had come in actual contact with so few other than his guardian, he probably wouldn't remember any other voices even if they did belong to gargoyles he had met.
He wanted to stay inside the shadows and continue to hide, but a small part of him remembered that this place was supposed to be safe, and nothing here could hurt him, unless it was a scary intruder. And a scary intruder wouldn't call out a challenge like that. At least, he didn't THINK they would.
Walking carefully out of the shadows, he peered down the corridor and could just make out the form of another gargoyle about his size, dragging a dagger along the floor. So THAT was the racket he had heard! No wonder his nerves had been jangled.
Putting on his friendliest smile, he took a few tentative steps toward the other, trying to make his moves slow and deliberate, in case the other startled easily like him, and he didn't have any weapon to use. "I'm not Friendy or Foeish; I'm Colby. Who are you?"
