Sitting in the shadows The Joker chuckled to himself as he watched outside a window over the sleeping city of Gotham. It had been two full years since anyone, even Bats himself had seen any site of his paint caked face. A high squeak of a laugh escaped his throat as he watched a small little explosion happen in the south end of Gotham. Right on time. Within minutes the ever famous Flying Rodent symbol was seen floating in the sky above him. Tonight was his. "I've been gone for way too long. I'm taking back my city." Grabbing his knife and automatic pistol and shoving them into his pockets of his purple suite, the Joker walked out of the condemned building on the outskirts of Gotham. The cool night air blew a few strands of his greasy green hair into his face. Licking his lips he let out a bone chilling laugh and listened to it echo in the night air. An evil grin spread across his scarred face as his green eyes glowed in the night. Tonight was his night. Batman arrived at the scene of the explosion before the rest of the crime unit. The once busy gas station was now a pile of rubble and soot. Flames danced around him as beads of sweat started to form on his face. Looking around a piece of paper caught his eye. Frowning Batman walked over a picked it up as his eyes widened. It wasn't a piece of paper but a Joker card. I knew it. You son of a b***h. So you really a back? Staring down at the card a message was scratched on it, but was too faint to read due to the burns on it. The card crumpled and soon fell apart in Batman's hands as the faint sound of sirens grew closer as the crime unit started to arrive.

Imari's gaze was drawn in the direction of the explosion and a grin swept across her face. "Gotham's Finest fail again." Her voice came out soft and smooth, but amusement could be heard all the same. She was sitting on the porch steps of her small house on the outskirts of Gotham City. She inspected what she could see of the explosion, smoke flailing its way into the endless sky, and let a laugh slip through her lips. "And so the fun begins."
She leaned back, putting her arms behind her and looked up at the starless sky, poluted with the filth of the city, and began humming. Max woke with a start and a heavy barrage of coughs ensued. Her brother was in the room, pulling her up from her bed before she could even begin to comprehend what had happened. She was pulled into a crowded hallway; everyone in the apartment building seemed to be headed in the same direction.
Max looked up at her brother, and decided against asking at the moment; he looked preoccupied. The trip to the bottom of the building seemed to have been a long one, but they, eventually made it and came to stand across the street from the building. Looking back now, Max could see what had happened. Fire licked at the edge of the building, threatening to incinerate their home.

The police commissioner sighed heavily as his car pulled up to the destroyed gas station. “Good God,” he muttered under his breath. He sighed heavily before he climbed out of his car, his unit arrived on the scene after him. “Spread out! Search for any wounded!” he ordered them all. He ran a hand through his graying hair as his eyes locked onto a group of fire fighters that just arrived and started to set up to take care of the fire. “So much for a quiet night.” He scratched the back of his head and peered around him at his men; he was missing someone. But who? He took a mental roll call, and rolled his eyes once he figured it out. “Ashlea, why are you always late?”
It wasn’t her fault she was late. Or atleast that what she said, but Ashlea Hart was never one for being on time, for anything. She had been at a 7-11, drinking coffee in its parking a lot, inside her candy apple red mini copper. She was off the clock, and was enjoying herself. That was until she got the call about the explosion. She was only a couple blocks away she should have been the first one there, but as always, she was late.Gordon watched as the mini copper pulled beside his car. “Your late.” He stated as he watched Ash basically jump from out of her car, almost spilling her coffee.“What are you talking about? They haven’t even got the fire out. I’m early.” She smirked and handed him some coffee before she skipped away onto the scene.

Alex stopped cold in the doorway when the explosion hit; he'd been on his way to work, but now he reeled towards the window, taking in the scene in front of him. Panic shot through him at what he saw: fire. He couldn't see its source, but he could see it growing progressively closer.
In a flash, he'd gone to his sisters room, pulling her from her slumber and into the already crowded hallway. Apparently everyone had caught on as fast as he had. He pushed forward, pulling his sister through the crowd, outside, and across the street.
He looked down at her just in time to take in her panicked expression as she figured out what was going on. He put his arm around her and pulled her into a hug.
"S'okay, Max," he said gently. Harley fidgeted uncomfortably in her cell; she'd been here for two years this time, ever since her last venture with the Joker. Her nostrils flared and she exhaled deeply at his name; she might love him, but she swore as soon as she got out of here and hunted him down, he'd have some serious explaining to do.

Batman walked up to where Gordon was standing. His deep gravely voice sounded above the roar of the flames. "It's him." He stood motionless as another mini explosion erupted behind him as fire caught to a gas tank. The Joker chuckled as he skipped down the road past Imari's house giving the girl a wink and continued on humming a little tune. "Everything burns. And tonight it's going to be Bat." Suddenly he stopped in the middle of the road pondering. He turned to look back at Imari. "Is my tie straight?" He pursed his lips as he tried to hold back laughter. "Y-you see I wanna look good for my date with Bats. It's been a while since we've been together." He raised an eyebrow and waited for her response.

"Gay, huh?" Imari's expression didn't change, but her tone still held amusement. She stood slowly from her spot on the steps and made her way to where he stood quite gracefully; she straightened his tie and stepped back a bit, looking up at his face. So, the Joker was alive. "As debonair as ever, Joker."
She turned and started back in the direction of her home, but stopped, glancing back at the Joker. "I'll have to ask that you don't kill my prey."

Gordon frowned when the bat inform him of that. He had really hoped it was just from freak accident, but nothing here in Gotham was an accident. It just had a lot of freaks. “Do we know for sure this time?” he asked as he watched some of the flames begin to die down as the fire fighters started to take control of the fire, and the fires on the surrounding buildings.] Ash started to search the surrounding area for any wounded, lucky she didn’t find any. She saw some people on the streets near a apartment building that had been near the explosion. She saw a group of fire fighters taking care of the scene and she decided to try and question the tendents, maybe they saw or hear something that would give them a led.
“Hey Gordon I-“ she started to yell but she cut herself off when she saw who was beside him. The infamous Batman. She knew that the bat probably didn’t want her around while he was talking to the commissioner so she whistled over to Gordon and motioned to him where she was going, she waited until he nodded until she finally crossed the street towards the building.
“Did everyone make it out ok?” She happened to stop by Alex and Max as she looked up at the now smoking building.

The Joker cocked his head to one side as she spoke. "Kill him?" He ignored her first comment, acted like he didn't understand what she was saying. "Hmmmm? Kill him?" Finally he couldn't contain himself any longer. "Kill him?! Why would I," He pointed at himself, twirling his finger in the air, "Kill him?!" Joker licked his lips as his eyes darted around. "No. No. It's just...no. I wouldn't kill him." His voice became serious and quiet as his eyes narrowed, "Are you wanting to kill.." He paused a moment as he took a step back and extended his arms, flapping them. "...The Batman!?" He let out a wild laugh as he turned to continue on his journey. Not really caring if she answered or not. He had business to attend to.

Max sent her brother a smile and pulled away a bit. "I'm okay, Alex," she said. "You worry too much." "You don't worry enough," Alex mumbled. He hadn't really meant for her to hear it, but he knew she had when a small giggle escaped her throat. She pointed down the road, and I looked to see fire trucks arriving.Max sent a small smile in Ash's direction. "I think so," she said. "But we can't be sure.."

Imari contained herself through his speech; she didn't bother to answer his question. Instead she, too, burst into a wild bout of laughter, turned back towards her home and marveled at the smoke filled sky.

Batman remained silent for a bit until he heard a whistle behind him. "He left a note. A card." He took a deep breath inhaling smoke. "There was a message on it, but it was already too burned. I couldn't read it." Annoyance could be heard in his voice as he watched Gordon's eyes drift off to the person that whistled at him. He turned around to see Ash talking to some residents of the building next to the burning station. His gaze seemed to soften but he quickly shook it off as he turned back to Gordon. "It won't be long before it gets worse."

Ash frowned slightly when she heard that, but the fire fighters assured her and everyone else that the building had been cleared. Atleast that was good news.
“I’m sorry if this seems sudden, but you have any information, please contact me. My name is Ashlea Hart.” She gave the siblings a small card before she handed them a card with her work phone number on it. She passed this out to the other residents as well. Hopefully someone saw something that would help them. “Thing are already going to Hell,” Gordon said quietly. “When are things going to get better?” he thought outloud. It would help if they had some kind of led, they didn’t even know if the Joker was working with someone, and the only clue they had was a burned up card that no one could read. Out in the outskirts of the city, a pale young man with ink black hair and eyes sat waiting, hidden in the shadows. The man was dressed, head to toe in black, and carried with him a black guitar case, but inside was no a musical instrument, no, inside was an assault rifle. And sitting on his shoulder was a rather strange thing, but it was perfectly normal to him; it was a tarantula. His pet. He was waiting for his employer to show up and give him his orders. Whatever they might be.
