As a 7 year internet forum Role Playing Vet (I'm 19 just so everyone knows), I know just about every rule that can be thought of as well as dozens of Role Playing styles and formats. I enjoy Role Playing and I think that the best kind of Role Playing is done with a hybrid Rule system I've developed over the years. It's simple, effective, and fun.

Remember Forum Rp'ing makes it easy and fun for more than two people to role play at once here on Gaia.

1. In-Character/Out-of-Character (IC, OOC).
If you have an out of character comment or complaint, put them in ((Brackets)) otherwise your comment will be considered in Character.

2. Play Fair (God Modding))
When enough people are involved, role-play can take some unexpected turns. That’s part of the fun. Please don’t throw any conniptions or post any flames if things aren’t going precisely as you planned. If you are unhappy about something, please discuss elsewhere.
Don’t take license with characters not belonging to you. For instance, if you see fit to kick Joey Baggadonuts in the shins, don’t then do him the courtesy of narrating his response to your effrontery. How he reacts is up to him. If you choose his reaction that's God Modding, and it is very easy to spot. Don't do it.
Now I am aware that "Vampires" are hard to escape in this day and age. So is magic. But we are in a fictional comic book world with some magic already thrown in. Plus some of the character's super powers are pretty unbelievable. Take my buddy Killer Croc. He has rapid healing, which means he can take multiple gunshots and not notice a thing. He can keep fighting for some time and it makes sense that he won't go down with just a Batarang. There is a difference between God Modding and super powers everyone. Keep that in mind.

3. Adult Content.
Sex and violence make the world go round, but let’s keep it in the vicinity of a PG-13 rating. Nothing beyond what would commonly be considered R-rated is permitted. My intentions are not to spoil everyone's fun, but taking into mind the range of ages among forum members, I feel it's necessary to regulate this aspect of role-play.
To elaborate; some light petting and mild innuendo is permitted, but detailed descriptions of intercourse, and trashy romance novel style anatomical metaphors are not. Similarly, you probably don’t need to go into exacting detail about what a shotgun blast to the face looks like, or the angle of trajectory the victims teeth took through the back of his skull, or about how his molars wedged themselves in the face of the poor guy standing behind...okay...you get the picture. Swearing must be censored to a degree. No sh** and no f**k. Use * or just type the swear word in symbols, like this: @#$%!

4. Genre.
We are in the DC universe, specifically the city of Gotham. Try your best to stick to the past continuity of the comics/films/TV series and we'll all do just fine.

5. Abbreviations and Punctuation
You know what I am talking about. Lol, JK, ROFL, Wtf, stfu, the hole shabang. These are to be used OOC. If used IC'ly every once in awhile by accident is fine, but repeat offenders will be warned. Also, use punctuation and capital letters appropriately. No run on sentences like thus:
he walks up the alley and takes a look at the roof batman jumps down and flattens him to the ground "where is he?" batman growls
RP'ing like that will not go unnoticed. This is not habbo hotel people, there's no need to speed type here. Take your time and play nice.

6. Have Fun
This is only a game people. We can explore our deepest fantasies as long as they are age appropriate. Go with the flow. Batman doesn't have to win all the time, and Villains can have hearts every once in awhile. Just go with it and have fun most of all.

Concerning Role Playing style:
I suggest that we not limit ourselves to role playing style. Any type of style is welcome as long as it is clear what you are doing and people can read it, that is fine.

Looks good to me Hatter. By the way, this looks allot like the rules page you made for that Star Wars RP on Invisionfree that shut down last month. What was that one called again?

Star Wars: Rift. Yeah, it fell apart once those Sith guys got all uppity. There's a classic case of God Modder's ruining a good forum.

I would like to point out here a specific difference in rping styles fo rping in the first person.
I usually leave comments like this: *(place action/descriptions here)* (place speech here).

While this works for basic leaving comments rping, I feel a much more affective way to rp in first person here would be more like this:
I walk down the seemingly endless halls, wondering where everyone could be. I will try to call out, "Hello, is anyone here?" I pause to listen, but silence is all that answers.

There is not really anything wrong with the first style, but you may find that this second style is not only much more professional, but is a lot less tempting for you to use text lingo and what have you while posting this way.

At least, that's my experience. xp

That's a RP style, and what Hats is trying to say in the last part is that you can RP how ever you want long as it is legible and clear. So if you want to RP in this way go ahead, but people can RP in any style they want.

WOAH You're 19?
I'm only a 15 year old chick.
-feels like she's 5- ;-;

ANYWAYS. Back on topic.
It was a good idea of you to post this. Thank you for taking the time to write it.
Means a lot to me.
3nodding

My style VIA profile isn't how I really roleplay.
I write like an author would a book for roleplaying normally.
I'm pretty sure the majority of everyone in here does.

Very nice rules.
They're nice, clear and easy to understand.
That's how rules should be posted in all RP forums.
