Native fauna

Felucian bird

An avian native to the planet of Felucia, this creature had a bulbous body and translucent, pale skin.

One of these avians took flight in front of Jedi Knight Aayla Secura during her reconnaissance en route to Niango. Secura was distracted by the movement, and was thus unable to defend herself when Commander Bly and his troops opened fire, cutting her down in accordance with Order 66.

Gelagrub

Gelagrubs, also known as Felucian ground beetles, were large insect-like creatures that lived on the planet Felucia. Their preferred habitat was among the planet's towering mushroom forests. The gelagrub had a wide mouth above which were two vertically in-line eyes, and two rows of stubby adhesive legs that enabled it to climb steep inclines.

They were docile and easily domesticated creatures whose larval forms were used as mounts by Gossam colonists. Clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic also used them during the Battle of Felucia in the Clone Wars.

Like the rest of Felucia's flora and fauna, the gelagrub evolved with its own unique adaptations to the intense ultraviolet rays of the planet's sun. The gelatinous larval form was, for example, one of many Felucian creatures with a shimmering, semi-transparent skin. It was able to metabolize UV-filtering chemicals from its lichen food source, and distribute them to subdermal ducts, affording the gelagrub's internal organs a natural sunscreen. This also meant these creatures were constantly eating.

When a gelagrub pupated from its larva-stage, the adult emerged as a hard-shelled ground creature, not unlike a giant beetle, with a mirrored carapace in the place of the larval translucent skin to reflect the worst of the sun's rays.

Immigrated Fauna

Acklay
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
The acklay was a large, non-sentient creature native to the oceans of Vendaxa. Its physical appearance made it a natural predator, with six sharp claws and an aggressive attitude. As such, it was commonly found in gladiatorial arenas on different worlds in the Outer Rim Territories. One world where acklays were present was Geonosis, where they fought in the Petranaki Arena. However, some escaped and managed to survive in the Geonosian deserts despite their native aquatic environment. An acklay was used in the attempted execution of the then Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi in 22 BBY, but was killed by Kenobi. Acklays were also present on Felucia, where they attacked the 501st Legion during the Battle of Felucia, only to be wiped out by the clone troopers.

Rancor

Rancors were large carnivorous reptomammals originating from the planet of Dathomir. They were always born brown, but in special circumstances, such as the mutant rancor, their color may have differed. Although found on other worlds such as Ottethan, Carida, Corulag, Felucia and Lehon (where they were brought by crashed starships), those from Dathomir were said to be stronger and more intelligent than others. It has been used for many things, ranging from mounts for the Witches of Dathomir to pets for crime lords such as Jabba to being a source of food.

Sarlacc

The sarlacc was a semi-sentient, plant-like, omnivorous arthropod found on several planets across the galaxy. Not much was known about this creature, but it was unique in terms of galactic flora. It lived to be tens of thousands of years old, and reproduced by spores. One particular specimen of a sarlacc was located in the Great Pit of Carkoon on Tatooine. It tortured the famous Bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Native Flora

Giant mushroom
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
The giant mushrooms were the dominant flora in many parts of Felucia. They made up the majority of the fungal forests of the planet. They made functioned like trees on other planets, making up the upper canopy of the forests. This allowed many horned fungi and slime molds to grow in the shade they provided.

They were less common in the fern jungles and pitcher plant forests.
