Art dates back 40,000 years and is a huge part of most if not all customs on the earth. It appeals to our emotions and thoughts; whether it be a billboard, a painting, a pattern in the grass, complicated musical structure, the simplest chords, or whatever, art is around us and we react to it either positively, negatively or neutrally.
Artist express themselves and other subjects through their finished product, they show their view and mind through what ever skill they have. I am going to use painters as an example. Painters catch a moment or image that they find to be inspirational and paint how their mind is depicting it. In America, we have freedom of speech. This right is giving to us with some exceptions.
Is taking down a wonderful piece of art because it may be offensive justified?
Or should obscene art be another exception, and be censored from the public eye?
Why do we feel the need to put limits on everything?

It's a little sloppy, but I get it.
I don't think that anything should be censord, but if it's something that you know is going to cause a ruckus then I think it needs to have a warning telling people what to expect so that those who might be offended by it can choose not to see it. And it's just common curtisy not to post up a 3 -guys-1-girl sex orgy on a billboard right in front of Mc.Donald's (even though that would be funny rofl )

Wow here's a first for me tonight... I agree.
I find that a sane person would say "Hey maybe I shouldn't put this here..."
and respect the views of others around them. Maybe some kind of common sence curtisy law or an equivilant.

Why bother with courtesy laws at all? If I don't like your billboard I'll just paint over it. Hmmmmm, that might piss you off, and you probably did pay for use of the billboard. I guess i could ask you to move it, and then paint over it if you don't. No, then you will know who did it and it will get all legal......
I am at a loss.

Nothing should ever, ever be censored.
I mean, the artist did whatever they did for a reason. If something is offensive, then it was probably meant to be offensive.
The great thing about art is that if you don't like it, you can look away or cover your ears, whichever you prefer.

Censorship got me in trouble at school lots of times.
In 5th grade I drew a picture of a nude mermaid.
I got suspended for it as well.
Censorship is always the lazy parent's quick fix.
I hate how our society is towards art.
Art is a caged bird because of censorship.
I wish in my lifetime I could see it free.
Truth is if something is unpleasant you should look away.

i guess that cencoring is a good thing thing. it gets really annoying 99.9&#xof; the time though. but things need to be censored because there's always the "sheltered" person that can't bare to see certain things.
personally i think that cencorship is dumb and a waste, but you could say that it is for the greater good.

SO heres my take on it, based on living in multiple different countries.
FOR MUSIC AND LITERATURE:
If you dont want to see it turn it off or don't read it, i want to hear the song ******** It by Seether on my damned radio without buying satelite.
ART:
If it is super public, ex the bilboard, then there should be some cencorship i dont want to go to Chipotle and see a big v****a in my face ya know? All though I am strait haha.
Television:
This is where other countries come in. Taiwan was moderate, US was extreme and Italy... There was porn on at 4pm, to say the least.

well if we put limits on everything arent we really saying no to the insperations of other artist that have the same idea?
