We've got massive changes in store for the Geek.Kon 2009 Convention. One huge difference is that we are now completely separated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus. We have even gone so far as to dissolve the student org for Geek.Kon.
Why?
Well, the red tape was getting to be a bit tiresome to deal with. Not that the U.S. government will be any easier to work with once we become a full fledged Non-Profit group. Also, many of our staff members will be graduating, however the UW requires all student orgs to retain at least 75% students on staff.
What does this mean for the future?
We'll be in a hotel for 2009, which means there will now be a small charge to enter. because we will be having paid registration, this means: A con that runs 3 days instead of 2. We can have longer hours, including 24 hour viewing rooms. Con goers will be able to reserve rooms and stay at the hotel for a cheaper price than the usual rates. Con goers can enjoy all the perks of staying at the beautiful Sheraton Hotel here in Madison, WI.

What is the entry fee going to be this year? And is there a table fee for artists?

Entry fee for the convention will be:

$20 Pre-registration for the weekend
Day of con prices have been decided on and will be released soon. They'll be definitely under $30 for day-of full weekend.

We are also working on the pricing for Artist alley, but we do know there will a fee for a table. This will be much lower than the fee for vendors, of course. Since space AA this year will be at a premium, we have to charge to make those who are truly sincere about their work can get a spot.

I'm still not sure if I can make it this year but if I can get a good idea of the expenses beforehand then that'll definately help me figure it out smile

Geek.Kon is happy to announce voice actor Kyle ********* and fantasy author Chad Corrie as guests for 2009 along with steampunk guests, Steam Century and Fermata!

Kyle ********* - Kyle ********* is a Los Angeles-based animation and video game voice actor. His voice credits include Ryu (Street Fighter IV), Kiba (Naruto), Aizen (Bleach), and Kamina (Gurren Lagann). He is best known as the Narrator and teen Gohan (Dragonball Z). Other notable roles include Ouran High School Host Club (Kazukiyo Soga), Fullmetal Alchemist (Vato Falman), and Devil May Cry 4 (Bael, Dagon). Kyle has contributed various voices to games for Watchmen and Star Wars. He also cohosts a podcast dedicated to news on all things geeky called The Big Bald Broadcast.

Chad Corrie - Chad Corrie is the author of four novels (Seer's Quest, Path of Power, Gambit's End, The Adventures of Corwyn) and one award winning graphic novel (Tales of Tralodren: The Beginning) - all of which take place in The World of Tralodren. He's also a podcaster with three podcast series to his credit, one of which - Cauldron of Worlds - is dedicated to helping people build a foundation for their own fantasy world.

Steam Century - Returning to Geek.Kon this year, Steam Century is a living alternate history group whose main function is to personify, enjoy, and advance the fiction genre of steampunk. To those ends, members and players create a persona that is a part of the population of the world of Steam Century. Various activities may be undertaken such as hosting games, mystery events, and other events that are set within the Steam Century world.

Fermata - Emotion is at the core of all we do, but in today's era of music, it too often seems lost and forgotten. Fermata strives to blaze a trail through the empty sounds that suffocate our senses every day. With only acoustic instruments and the human voice at their disposal, they weave stories with sound, cadence, and crescendos in a way that stirs us and reminds us why we seek out music in the first place - to feel. A local folk/acoustic style band, Fermata's music is inspired by such things as fairytales, storybooks, steampunk and more.
