Hey all, just need to vent so I thought I'd post this fabulous story that just happened.
Some of you know, I'm a baker in a grocery store, my shifts usually run from midnight to 8am.
So things are normal for me tonight. I go in and start, I have to go thru three pallets of a frozen load to get all of my stuff. Point is, I do it, even though it usually takes 30 minutes or more. I place an order and basically, do my normal job. The only thing I did not do, is bake pies. I thought the front display looked fine. Plus this current manager expects the baker to package, price and put out everything that they prepare (when in every other store, the opener does that), so there is no time to do both without running into overtime that they do not want you to have.
Aside from the pies, I thought I did pretty damn good today. Only thing I didn't do on my own was package some biscuits I made because they were still cooling down.
The manager walks in, already in a bad mood apparently, and does she say hi or good morning? Nope. She asks,"Did you bake pies?" I say no, I didn't think we needed them. She gets testy and basically, disagrees.
So she's brewing thru the remaining hour of my shift, and toward the end, I start to break out the pies to bake them, and she tells me to not bother. I thought this meant she was going to so I leave them on the table to be baked. (Probably a mistake but who here hasn't made an error?)
So I leave in a bit of a mood because of this and some stuff at home, and find a message on my answering machine, from her.
She told me she did not appreciate me leaving without saying good-bye (even tho she didn't say hello?), or leaving all my work for her. (The same work she told me not to bother doing) and she got a little snippy, including cursing over the message.
First off, that's a big no no. You're not to call an employee's home and speak to them like that. I turned right around, went back to the workplace, and she and I proceeded to have it out right there on the sales floor until a store asst manager broke us up. I told the bakery manager I thought she meant she was doing pies.
Her: Me? Why would I do them? I don't have time!
Me: Well neither did I!
Her: Well what did you do last night?
I started to explain I threw my load and she started acting as if I did nothing of the kind. Oh really? Did my stuff in the freezer just fly off the pallets then?
That's about when we got broken up and I stormed out of the store -- again. Now I have a feeling when I go in tomorrow for a closing shift, she's going to either try taking me off of baking or have me written up -- or both.
It just seems she's the type of manager who wants everything done to make her shift easier. She comes and goes as she pleases, does not take out garbage, or wash dishes, she has manipulated it to where the baker now does duties previously meant for the opener (her), like packaging and pulling stales off tables.
If so, I'm in a Union, and I can call a rep in. But that'd be the worst thing for her because she, as a manager, is not in the Union, and I have several accounts of her calling employees vulgar names behind their backs, and asking me a rather vulgar question.
If she wants to be that way and fight dirty, taking her bad mood out on me, I can fight just as dirty.
Thing is, it is this time of the year, and if I pull that card, it could easily cost her her job because that is a terminable offense, speaking about employees like that. Especially when a manager does it.
Right now I don't know what to do or expect, but I am sorely tempted to find someone to take my shift tomorrow so cooler heads might prevail.
