The army gathered in the Kensrowe Pass was quite large. Numbering 130,000 soldiers. Most of them were Imperial soldiers, from various provinces but mostly Sylvania and Reikland. There were a couple Battalions of troops from Keslev, as well as a whole Legion of Dwarves. The Dwarves were well underway building defenses. In the short time they had been there they had dug a trench from one side of the pass to the other and had created earthen walls behind that. They also were in the process of creating traps to stop the approaching enemy in their tracks, including rock slides and pitfalls. The artillery units had been placed just behind the earthen wall. Slots had been dug out for cannons, and a way behind that foxholes had been dug for mortars and their crews. The camp was setup behind all of this in a vast array of tents. The commanders had found a place on the slopes that was flat enough to set up their tents and command post. This position gave them a great view of the Pass below.

Kraith had talked to the Dwarf general and decided to dig out holes big enough to store ten archers in. They did this and then built a roof over this. They built support beams to hold up one side of the roof, so the archers could fire out of it. This would make it so then can pick off the enemy with it being nearly impossible to shoot an arrow through the opening from above ground. The only way to enter and exit from in front of the wall was to crawl through the small opening. If the enemy tried this they could be instantly slaughtered. The other way to enter was from behind the wall. There is an openig in the ground that leads to the different bunks. They decided to set about fifty up in front of the wall at various angles making sure they didn't have a blind spot. These were easy to construct and were all up within two hours.

They then came up with a way to make a sort of mine field. They planted scatter cannons about one hundred yards out from each of the bunks. Scatter cannons shot out a certain type of cannonball that would explode at the end of the barrel. The thick metal fragments would then be shot out at all directions from the explosive force. The fragments can be fatal. Most result in serious injuries. They made a trail of string from the bunks to the cannons. After the enemies got in the range an archer could pull the strings and obliterate the enemy from the hidden cannons.

Last for the ranged attacks they built more bunks along the mountains to station rangers there. They built a command post for these archers and built a communication device, so the command post could communicate with the central command post. There was a rope connected to a series of pullies and a bottle attached to one of the pulleys. Someone could write a message and then lower it down by pulley. Or they could send a message up.

They built two catapults and built huge bombs. They were hollowed out boulders filled with black powder with a hole at the top. They had a rope dipped in oil as a fuse. They then sealed the whole with layers of wax. They were very dangerous. All they could manage to build were about ten.

The Blood Knight army finally arrived the day after Kraith had gotten there. They set up there tents on the outskirts of the camp for some measure of privacy, and no one questioned them.

Valen was amazed at how quickly the pass had been fortified. He inspected the defenses, although he already knew they would be superb. Mostly there were only some last minute foxholes, bunkers, and pitfalls being dug. Valen hoped it would be enough.

While Valen was walking around the trenches a unit of soldiers came riding into the camp from the desert. They looked disheveled, and had many injured. Their ranking officer made his way to the command post and talked with no one till he got there. Soldiers all throughout the camp came and ask they other new arrivals what had happened. "We were attacked, by the Undead army. They came during the night, and overran our outpost. We were lucky to escape with our lives. We couldn't get a good look at how many there were, it was too dark and they carried nothing to light their way, but all we know is that there are a LOT."

Valen could see the morale go down amongst the defenders at hearing this news. Valen didn't like to see that, but it couldn't really be helped. Few people could feel confident when fighting an enemy that was already dead.

It was not long after the arrival of the vanguard soldiers that the commanders began issuing orders to their subordinates to begin positioning the troops. Valen and his unit were deployed to the front lines, just outside the trenches. According to the survivors the undead army was to arrive that night. In the distance Valen and the other other defenders watched an enormous cloud of sand and dust on the horizon getting closer and closer. It was pretty close by the time the sun finally went down but the undead were still out of site. So, the defenders waited together, watch fires had been set up all along the defenses and trenches. It was very quiet, even the sounds of nature were not heard. About 2 hours after sundown, while half the army was eating their dinner the first attack came. Dozens of large balls of stone came hurling out of the darkness and hit into the unprepared defenders. Several of the mortals around Valen looked panicked but he motioned for them to calm down, and they took comfort in his calm demeanor.

And then, as quickly as the attack came it was over and it was silent again, except for the moans of the few who were unlucky enough to not die on impact. Everyone was staring into the darkness, looking for some sign of a target, and then they heard a haunting rattling and jingling sound of bones and metal. From one end of the pass to the other skeleton soldiers marched, their spears and shields at the ready. Someone from the command center yelled fire and in response thousands of guns, bows, crossbows and hundreds of cannons, mortars, and catapults fired into the ranks of the coming hoard, smothering the pass in smoke in seconds.

After the initial volley everything went silent again as people tried to see what damage they had done to the coming hoard. Then the smoke began to clear and silhouettes of skeletons could be seen by the watch fires. The Undead army had suffered many casualties to all of the various traps that had been released, and the enormous amount of ordinance shot at them, but still many more stood in the place of those that had fallen. A horn sounded in the ranks of the Undead force and then the army charged at the defenders in a full run.

The defenders hurriedly began firing all they could at the hoard, but it was not enough to stop the coming rush. As they approached the trenches a commander let out a battlecry, "for the Emperor!!!" The soldiers in the trenches charged forth to meet the coming skeleton warriors. The collision of the two armies was enormous. Bones shattered, men were impaled as they stood, and steel rang out against steel all through the pass.

The Blood Knights were clearly the best warriors on the field there, they destroyed many skeletons with ease, but for everyone they brought down another would take it's place. And slowly even the vampiric warriors began to tire and some even began to fall.

Alright, I am getting tired of this story arc here, so the battle is over, the undead were defeated and the Liche Priest leading this detachment was slain, likely by Valen and or Kraith, and there was much rejoicing!
