Preface
Lucifer and his wife were running down a hallway of Huniazi with the guards hot on his trail. Alice tripped but Lucifer caught her before she could hit the floor. He held her hand in his and wrapped his other hand around her waist. She looked up into his eyes with love, fear, and confusion in them.
He smiled gently back at her and whispered, “Let’s keep going.”
Alice nodded in agreement and followed as he led her by the hand down another narrow hallway and through big double doors.
Inside books where packed tightly and high on shelves in neat rows like soldiers going to war. As they ran it seemed as if the bookcases endless maze in every direction, and they could hear the guards running behind them through the aisles.
They came to an abrupt stop when they reached the far wall only to find it was a dead end.
“Lucifer there’s no way out of here,” she said as tears swelled up inside her eyes.
“Don’t worry,” he said as he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her head close to his chest, “We’re going to make it.” He held her gingerly as if she were fragile, and kissed the top of her head.
In a matter of seconds they where surrounded by guards, guns drawn and ready to kill. He closed his eyes wishing he had a few more minutes, but knew this was the end.
The guns went off pulling the two apart from each others embrace as blood splattered the floor and walls. Pages of books where flying through the air as stray bullets hit some books. Both there bodies hit the cold marble floor with a loud thud facing each other.
Lucifer watched as his wife slowly mouthed, “I love you,” with her last breath and was dead.
He tried to scream no, but only found himself slipping deeper into the darkness of death.
