___» » Shandri Riley

User Image___xx___xx pass me an id card » basic characteristics
      name ... Shandri Riley
age ... Just turned twenty (20)
      gender ... Female
      nationality ... Wisteran
      class ... Mage
      level ... Starter Tier
occupation ... Strange as it may sound, this lady's a protector of sorts. You hire her, you pay the gold, and she'll defend your life with her's (using magic obviously) ... but use the word 'mercenary' and all you'll get is a whole lot of nothing. Of course, this whole thing's the temporary measure, till she makes her way in the world.
      religion ... ---

___xx___xx straight onto the coroner's report » external features
      height ... 4 feet 11 inches
hair color ... white (extreme blonde)
      eye color ... hazel
overall appearance ... Shandri is an almost classic example of the Wisterian female: blonde hair, a medium sized body with some curves but not too much, and an 'average' height. In truth, she's probably a bit on the short side but no body would dare say that to her face - a sentiment all the more ironic when you actually get to know her. Her eyes are hazel, an indefinate mixture of green and brown. Her skin is both tanned and un-tanned, as although she likes to spend time in the sun, she is not a farmer and therefore does not need to work in the noon hours daily. After all, most attacks come at night, don't they? Her blonde (almost white in fact) hair is mostly pulled back, although she allows her bang-like fringe to fall out the front. She also has several almost crown-like spikes around her ponytail, which she says is "to stop anyone trying to yank my hair out".

Shandri wears primarily orange, black and white. A tight white vest/leotard-like piece stretches half-way up her neck. On her one orange sleeve she has a symbol showing she is a graduate mage from the convent of the Kes'sarria . The three white lines on that sleeve also labels her as the most inexperienced of mages, a fact she tries to cover up by saying that each white line recognises a level ofexpertise mastered, despite the fact it is the very opposite. On her other arm she has a black glove-like sleeve of sorts that begins just below her shoulder and progresses down to a grey glove on her left hand. Shandri also wears black pants, flaring out at the bottom before they meet her white sandals. These sandles are simple, but practical - even if they don't look like it. Around her waist she has various materials and objects: two black crosses designed to intimidate as much as anything else; a black cord belt; and an orange 'waist guard' as she describes it that once more bears the symbol of her mage graduation.

weapon ... A staff which serves the dual purpose of a blade, hangs from her belt. It is silver in color, with a special sheen that can only be found on bespelled steel. The handle, about three-quaters of the way up the blade, is made out of a strange orange substance that writhes around the blade when she uses spells. Properly enchanted, this orange 'stuff' can form a staff of its own, but she finds it easier to carry her blade and her staff as one. Saves packing room, you see.

___xx___xx only in the mind » internal features
relationship status ... Single, and perfectly happy as that at the moment.
personality ... "Mages are serious, mages are noble," it was one of the first thing they tried to drill into her back when she was a child. Unfortunately, the lesson seems not to have stuck. Shandri is, as anyone who knows her will honestly tell you, a very mischevious sort of girl. A constant troublemaker with very loud ambitions, she is not the sort of person to be quiet on her opinions. She has rather firm views on anything that affects her sphere of life as she calls it, and is completely indecisive about anything that doesn't. Her entire view of life revolves around having as much fun as possibile and making a name for herself while she's at it. Not to mention, she can be as stubborn as hell, and just as fierce, despite her happy-go-lucky smile, witty mind and generally positive outlook. But don't mistake this optimism as being naive. She's rather world-wise and knows what it takes to get things done.
history ... Shandri never knew her parents and doesn't particularly care to either. They abandoned her when she was just a baby in a Kes'sarrian convent of sorts, despite the fact it was plainly obvious to anyone that she was Wisteran. There she was raised, with the pious men and women both doting on her, and trying to decide if she was the recipient of a great destiny. For some reason, the idea of having raised the next legendary figure themselves appealed to them. So they were a bit disappointed to find out her talents began and ended with magic. No godly strength, no unearthly intelligence, just plain old magic. Once it became obvious that she was never going to be anythign other than a mage (no matter how good a mage she was), they decided to try and make her a sort of noble mage. The majority of the time that Shandri had between the age of five and fifteen was spent being taught about magic, taught about the Kes'sarrian religion, or taught about being a proper lady, even though for all they knew her mother was a prostitute.

After she turned ten, Shandri actually started to pay attention to these lessons and was surprised to find that she actually enjoyed magic. All the childish activities that she could use magic for delighted her once more, and everything was better. The monks were still fanatics; the food was still terrible and Shandri was still a penniless nobody, but she didn't mind. Of course, it wasn't long before she became impatient with the latter and began to look for a way to make her way in the world. When she was fifteen, Shandri set out on something that was not the journey of self-discovery that she told her former tutors she was persuing, but nothing more or less than a job search. Carrying the staff they had given her as a final present, she searched the width and brest of the nation in order to find work. A few jobs here, a few jobs there, and soon Shandri had earnt enough money to call herself a working mage protector.

That was how her life worked until the war began. Because of her appearance and past, Shandri was unable to flee to Hysu'lae or even her native Wisteria after the borders closed. Work became increasingly scarce. And so now she finds herself stuck, without work, without any form of escape. She would never join the army - having little sympathy for either nature and an increasing irritation with both. As such she has set out to try and do what she can to end the war. For this war has just passed into Shandri's sphere, and she doesn't like its effects.

___» » _ Alabaster Norel

___xx___xx pass me an id card » basic characteristics
      name ... Stern / Slave 103 / Alabaster Norel
      age ... 18
      gender ... male
      nationality ... Hysu'laen
      class ... Performer
      level ... Starting Tier
      occupation ... Former galley slave
      religion ... ---

___xx___xx straight onto the coroner's report » external features
      height ... 175 cm
      hair color ... blonde-orange
      eye color ... blue
overall appearance ... Stern is a curious fellow in appearance. He has a shock of spikey, orange hair that grows back eventually no matter how many times people try to shave it off. He also has rather defiant looking eyes - not piercing as such, more rebellious. He is rather tall but not exceptionally, and all that rowing (that's what galley slaves do, you know) has left him rather muscular. But that in turn was tempered by the lack of food. As a slave, he went around bare-chested, not because they couldn't be bothered buying him a shirt but because they wanted to display his slave tattoos to the world. These tattoos show that he is an indentured slave and has no right to any of the facilities that free men are given. Nowadays he wears a sleeveless shift top to cover these tattoos as well as long loose fighting pants. He has no need for flashy decorations or armour.
weapon ... There is a strange irony in Stern's choice of weaponry. Despite the atrocities that he often associates with this weapon., he carries with him a whip. It is four feet long with a handle of steel that has a dragon carved into it. He stole it off the captain of the Merriflower after he killed him.

___xx___xx only in the mind » internal features
      relationship status ... single
personality ... Stern doesn't trust people - and doesn't open up easily. However he is still able to act like a joker as he did when he was a child and generally has an easy relaxed grin on his face that puts people at ease. He is interested foremost in surviving. After that, he just wants to do things his way and carve his own path with what he has left. He jokes around and is extremely lithe and quick moving.
history ... Stern was born Alabaster Norel, the son of a fisherman. As a child, he was very bright and playful, forever bounding about and getting in the way of his father's work by disturbing the nets, or clambering around on the boat. As he was at that stage a very small child, he would often play the fool in order to avoid being picked on. No one hits a joker, was what he thought. However, when he was twelve - and almost ready to start working on his own as it were, there was a storm, which destroyed all the boats and robbed the family of its livelihood. In desperation, his father borrowed a lot of money from the local 'bad men' - or so Alabaster's mother called them when explaining to Alabaster why his father was so upset. In the end, his father couldn't repay the debt and the 'bad men' came to collect. They took, as payment, the fisherman's only son: Alabaster. He was sold as a galley slave at the age of thirteen.

Once on the ship, the boy forfeited any right to his name and became known only as Slave 103. Eventually - once he had all but lost his former identity - he was renamed Stern, after both the back of the ship and a combination of his past name (Alabaster Norel). He was often forced to row for days on end without rest, and was whipped if they thought he was slowing down. He was occasionally moved to different ships, before at last ending up on a chip called the Merriflower - whose captain was as cruel and sadistic as they come. Stern's rowing partner, whom he sat next to, was a girl of around ten years of age. They never talked and barely knew each other. One day, when he had just (by his reckoning) turned eighteen, the captain came down into the galley in a particularly foul mood. He picked up a whip and began to yell at the slaves. The girl - whose slave name was Lacey - began to cry. The captain came up to her and disconnected her from the chain with a blow before whipping her. Before he knew what he was doing, Stern had stood up and attacked the captain with the chain, killing him. Luckily they had been in port at the time - otherwise he would have been dead for certain. As it was, he barely made it off, fleeing into the crush of Port Cinders' crowds.

For the last four months, he has lived on his wits with no idea of where he is going with his life. He has practiced his archery skills while on the move - with no place of residence, he lives mostly in abandoned houses in the slums. But now he has a plan... for despite the notice for his arrest, despite the reward, there are far bigger rewards out there... in the form of treasure.
