Butwal Island is an island in the northeastern region of the Orange Archipelago.

The island is particularly lush and green. There are also rivers, waterfalls, and mountains. It is known for having lots of wild plants on the island that Pokémon love to eat. The island is too small to have an airport or a seaport, so supplies of Pokémon food from Valencia Island are parachuted onto the island weekly by plane.

Splosh! The sound of rocks being thrown into a lake could be heard to anyone close enough to the lake. One by one the rocks were thrown into the lake just to sink down to the bottom and stay there. Kind of what the person who was throwing the rocks felt like doing. At the area where the rocks were first taking launch sat a girl, who looked very glum and depressed. She was different then others as well. She sat at the edge of the lake wearing an all yellow outfit safe for the white rolled up cuffs on her arms and legs. Her hair was a bright yellow colour, pretty normal, except for the pikachu ears coming from the top of her head, and a lightning shaped tail coming from her tailbone.

The girl gave a sigh, as she threw the rocks into the water. She didn't always used to look like this, it was something that was recent to her. She lowered her head and closed her eyes. At that moment she as reliving the sounds of all the crying pokemon around her, that included her closest friend, pikachu. She brought her head up quickly eyes opening wide. Evertime she heard the sound of all those pokemon she felt angry and sad at the same time. Angry at herself, for not trying to help them, and at the people who were the ones hurting the pokemon. Sad that their was nothing she could do to help.

She leaned down forward to look at her reflection in the water. Some ripples left over from the last rock she threw were still making their way back to the shore. When the girl looked down she saw herslef at first but with the ripples, the image changed and showed her friend pikachu.

"Oh pikachu. I'm sorry I couldn't help you." The girl brought her knees to her face and hugged them tightly with her arms, she felt like crying, but no tears were streaming down her face.

Twila was hiking around the island, which had become a daily routine for her the past month or so. She liked nothing better than to start the morning off by taking in the beautiful surroundings of Butwal Island. But today was a little different. She wasn't really paying attention to the beauty around her like she normally did. Her dark gray eyes were clouded in thought over some disturbing news she'd received from her parents back home. It sounded like trouble was brewing in the Orange Archipelago - trainers and their Pokemon were going missing, and there was some connection to a museum opening back in her home town. To say that she was worried would have been an understatement.

But the troubles of the rest of the islands didn't seem to reach Butwal. It was as if Twila's little paradise was frozen in time and unaffected by the world's troubles. It was part of the reason she liked it so much. But this news, this was disturbing to her. She wanted to know more about this new situation and even try to do something to help.

Twila eventually wandered to the middle of the island, into a clearing by a large lake. It was one of the most peaceful places on the island, and perfect for her to clear her mind. But before she could enter the clearing, something stopped her dead in her tracks. Something was stirring by the lake. Twila stayed hidden by the trees of the forest she had been wandering through - the forest that surrounded the lake. This thing that had caught her eye was like none that she had ever seen before. On first glace, because it was in a crouching position, making it look smaller, Twila almost mistook it for a Pikachu. But one good look and she could tell it was not a Pikachu at all. The figure was human - a girl even. But with Pikachu ears? And a tail? Couldn't be. Perhaps it was just a costume though. Twila knew many children in her home town to dress up like Pokemon. And Pikachu was a favorite amongst many little ones. But even still, Twila knew everyone who inhabited the island, as the number was so few. It was only her, her sister and brother-in-law, an old retired couple, and another botanist like her sister. There were no children at all on the island, she knew that for sure. So who was this girl?

Slowly, Twila came out from the trees and into the clearing. She stopped at the water's edge and stared at the girl across the lake. She looks upset, Twila thought as she watched the girl hugging her knees in a fetal position.

The girls pikachu ears shot up when she heard a sound in the trees near her. She got up quickly and turned in that direction. "W-who's there?" I thought this island was uninhabited?

The girl looked at the trees waiting to see someone come out when actually it was just a couple of pidgey flying around. The girl gave a sigh. "I need to stop scaring myself." She'd been on the island for quiet some time now and this incident has happened with her a lot. She's gotten spooked by other pidgey before, Zubats, and a school of golden. Every time she always thinks it's someone else.

She turned back around to stare at the lake. She leaned down and picked up a rock and threw it into the water. As she washed it through the air and splash in the water she saw a silhouette across the lake. She made a huge gasp when she noticed that it was another girl and she was staring right at her.

How long has she been there? My instincts are telling me to run, but my feet won't move. What should I do?

The strange Pikachu girl had noticed Twila, but didn't make a move to run. She looked to Twila, however, like the slightest movement would send her scurrying off into the forest. So Twila stayed still for a long time, watching from across the lake. This creature was strange and unfamiliar to her, and possibly dangerous since she had no idea what it was. But Twila had always been more curious than afraid of just about anything and everything she'd ever come across. And her incessant curiosity was eating away at her entire being as she stared at this phenomenal thing across the lake. Slowly, very slowly, she took baby steps around the side of the lake and towards the Pikachu-girl.

Even as curious as she was, Twila stopped herself a good six feet away from the girl. She was afraid she might scare it off, so she forced herself not to get too close. Then she stared again, for quite a few moments. Being this close, she could take in the entire appearance of the girl. Twila noticed she was a lot bigger than she looked from across the lake. Her face looked like that of a girl about her age. But why did she have Pikachu ears and a tail? So many questions flooded her mind; there was so much she wanted to know, but she didn't even know if this thing could talk to her. And she also seemed to have lost her voice momentarily in the awe of it all. Finally, when she spoke, her voice was soft and quiet. And with all the questions she was dying to ask, the first thing that came out of her mouth was, "Um...I'm Twila."

It wasn't profound by any means at all. But it worked, she guessed. Twila didn't think introducing herself was any cause for alarm in the strange creature and shouldn't have been enough to scare her away. And if she replied, it would answer at least one of her questions - she could talk.

The girl stood there staring at this new person across the lake, she really had no idea what to do. Her ears pricked up when she noticed that the other girl was starting to walk closer. oh no. What am I going to do now? She gave a quick glance around at her surrounding, there where plenty of place she could run, and she wanted to, but at the same time she knew that she needed to stay. Her Pokemon and human DNA were in a big clash right now, and she didn't know which one to choose.

Oh Pikachu, what should I do. She noticed now after fighting to herself that the girl was quiet close now, but wasn't moving any closer. The girl took one or two steps back, but didn't run, she did think about it until, the newcomer introduced herself as Twila.

Once hearing Twila introduce herself the girl stared at her with a shocked face and ears parallel to each other shooting straight up into the air. Is she not scared of me? Oh man I'm so stiff right now, I must look like a Stantler in headlights. Relax yourself, she obviously doesn't want to hurt you if she's that close and has already introduced herself. Thinking about that made the girl relax a little. Her face wasn't as shocked and her ears went down until one was placed roughly at 3 o'clock and the second one at about 9 o'clock. Her body though, was still in a ready position to run like made if this girl did anything. She stared at the girl and went to speak, but the first time she tried it no words came out. She cleared her throat and tried again. "M-m-my names Sophie."

As soon as the Pikachu-girl said her name, Twila smiled sweetly and gave a soft laugh. She was happy now that two of her questions had been answered already - one, she could talk; and two, after seeing her ears move around in response to her approach, Twila knew they definitely weren't fake. She was also excited just to have to opportunity to come across such a phenomenal creature. But more than just to express her delight, Twila's reaction was enough to ease a lot of the tension between the two, at least on her part, that is.

"Sophie, huh? What a pretty name. And so, well, normal, too," Twila replied. "Well you can relax, Sophie, I don't mean you any harm. I'm just naturally curious and I've never seen anything quite like you before. And you'll have to forgive me in advance if I ask too many questions. I'm very inquisitive, at least so I've been told. If you don't want to answer anything, you can just say so. You won't hurt my feelings, promise."

Twila squatted, resting her hands on her knees so she was closer to Sophie's level. There was a noticeable gleam in her eye, which made it apparent she already had a question ready to go. She had decided to ask the most basic one first: "So tell me, Sophie, what exactly are you?"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:42 pm

Sophie flinched back a little when Twila started to laugh. Why is she laughing? Is it at me?Does she find me funny? Sophie had no idea what the girl was laughing about until she explained herself. Wow this girl likes to talk. one Twila was done with her speaking and sat down, Spophie didn't really feel the erg to run anymore, and well, sat down as well.

I don't think she took a breathe when she was speaking before. Sophie, who was now sitting down about 3-4 feet away from twila, she still didn't know much about her so she wanted to keep her distance.

Sophie glanced over at Twila and noticed her eyes right before her question. She thought about it for awhile, she really didn't know what she was, all that she knew was that she had pikachu DNA now. She gave a small sigh, and threw another rock into the lake.

"To tell you the truth, I really don't know." She watched the ripples in the water with a sad face one. "All I know is that I had the DNA of my best friend Pikachu injected into me."

She looked at the ground at all the rocks, picked one up again and threw it. "I don't even know where Pikachu is now. All I know is I'm not the only one like this."

Twila listened intently as Sophie spoke. She didn't say much about herself, but what little information she did give was enough to spark a plug in Twila's brain. Once she had come across Sophie on her walk, she had forgotten all about the incident that was on her mind. But there was something about the way Sophie mentioned DNA testing that jogged her memory. She wondered if Sophie knew any more information about the museum incident and the kidnappings. It was worth asking, at least.

"That's so sad what happened to you, Sophie. It really is," Twila said, trying to sympathize with her. "But, do you think you can tell me a little more information? Not about the details of what made you this way per say, but maybe about what happened beforehand? Like, where you were or anything like that? Because I just found out some disturbing news recently and I was just wondering if maybe I could find some kind of connection. Or at the very least, find out some more details about it. I don't know if you've noticed, but it's hard to keep in the loop with current events when you have to hear it second-hand from people who aren't living on an uninhabited island."

Sophie looked over at twila, she was right, not very much new get out on this island. She really had no clue where to start, so she started with the letters, which she still happened to have on her in her shorts pocket.

"Well the first thing that happened was..." She went into her pocket and pulled out the letter and handed it to Twili. "...receiving that letter. It's an invitation to a museum opening on North Mandarin Island. There was also a lot of us."

Sophie started to remember everything that happened at the museum, seeing all the strong trainers with her best Pokemon companion. "It didn't seem weird at the beginning, actually it felt like a normal museum tour, until the end." Sophie gave a small shudder when the images of what happened next came to mind. "All the lights went out, most of us thought that it was just a power out that is until one of the younger girls near me gave a loud scream. I think she was around the age of 12 with long black hair and a Pokemon friend, Growlithe. The had be grabbed by one of the bodyguards and tied up. It happened to all of us, some tried to get away with the help of there Pokemon but nothing worked." Sophie looked back down to the ground, thinking about all of those children and young adults being taken away to be turned into hybrids, the thought just couldn't sit right in her head.

((Hehehe I had to throw your other character in there for fun!))

Twila was absolutely ecstatic - she was fidgeting where she sat. It got to the point where she couldn't control herself anymore and she leaped up from the ground, a smile plastered across her face.

"That's it then!" she exclaimed, "That's the connection! I knew it! This is big - no, it's bigger than big! It's huge! I can't wait to tell-" Twila stopped her rant and the smile slowly faded from her face as her mind started reeling. All of her options and the consequences of those options flooded her mind all at once. She was quiet for a moment as she fell into deep thought, momentarily forgetting all of her surroundings. When she came back to, she took a seat, Indian-style, in front of Sophie again, resting her elbows on her knees. She looked at Sophie with a much more serious, scholarly expression on her face.

"No." she stated. She paused for just a moment, then continued to explain. "Sophie," she addressed her, "you can't tell anyone else about this, OK? Neither of us can say anything yet. If this gets out now, it could be bad news for the both of us, you know? I mean, the people who were involved in a plot as big and sinister as this definitely seem like the kind of people who would do anything to keep us quiet if we knew. Sure, they need to be stopped - there's no doubt about that. But we have to handle this delicately, or under the table, so to speak. And if that's going to work, nobody can know about you - what happened to you, what you are...not yet, at least. And we definitely can't do anything on this remote island."

Twila was quiet again, thinking about their options. She would certainly have to leave this island. They couldn't afford to stay there. And Dahlia and Jasper couldn't know about this. She turned to Sophie again. "We need to find some way to get us both off this island without anyone knowing about you and without making my family suspicious. After all, I'm only fourteen and I can't just up and go off on my own. The only reason I could even come here was because my sister was here to look after me. I need some kind of excuse. And you'll definitely need some kind of disguise." She sighed. As inventive as she was, she was coming up with nothing at the moment and it was very frustrating.

"Any ideas?"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 13, 2008 10:30 pm

Sophie was a little started at Twila's sudden energy burst, and even more when she became serious. She is right, I do need to get off this island. But how? Sophie stood up and walked around, it was a normal thing for her to do. She would just start walking, in no particular order, she'd just start walking and mumbling to herself.

"Hmmmmm, maybe..." She continued her mumbling. "WAIT!" She turned quickly to Twila. "I think I have an idea." She did a little twirl, then stared once again at Twila. "Their are a couple of elder's on this island, one of them would have grandchildren off the island. Well why not say that i'm visiting one of these said 'grandparents.' That would cover the story. All that we would have to do is a change of wardrobe for me." Sophie continued to think again. "How about a bandanna to pull down and cover my ears and a ling dress for the tail?"

Twila nodded. "That is a good idea. But we'll have to leave before they can ask too many questions. My brother-in-law is a very curious person and they both know the elders on the island. But they've also been out camping on the other side of the island for the past three days, so they have no way of knowing if we've had any visitors on the island. They should be back in a few hours, which gives us some time to beat them home and get you dressed. And, if we have the time, we should probably start packing and let the boatman know we'll be leaving so we can go as soon as we tell them. If we wait too long, it won't take long before they go talk to the elderly couple and find out you're not their grandchild. We're neighbors after all."

Twila stood up and brushed off her skirt. She turned in the direction she had come from earlier, calling back to Sophie. "Come on, I'll show you the way to camp." The girls started back through the forest. As they walked, Twila continued to talk all the way. She didn't have many people to talk to out here, so this was a refreshing change.

"You know, it's so strange that I met you today, Sophie. Very...coincidental to say the least. I just received an email this morning from one of my friends back on my home island - North Mandarin. He told me all about the strange and sudden disappearances. It's times like this that I wish I wasn't living on an uninhabited island. I like it here, don't get me wrong, but I hate to pass up an adventure like this. I don't really know what it is we can do, but I figure the best starting point is North Mandarin at the museum where this all took place. Maybe we can uncover some clues or something...Oh listen to me! I sound like a regular detective don't I?"

Twila laughed at herself. A year alone on an uninhabited island hadn't matured her one bit.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 10, 2009 4:21 pm

Sophie smiled and agreed, she really didn't want to be around when Twila's family found out about her not being the granddaughter. She hurried after Twila when the commenced to the house. She too had been on this island for a while, but had no way of communication so she listened intently about the news that was going around, then of course smiled at twila's detective comment.

"Yeah you do." Sophie did a small laugh, then stopped to ask a question. "Has there been search crews sent out for missing children? Because it would be difficult to get a lot of information on people when most of the trainers there were from different regions."

"My friend didn't clarify on that, but it did sound like the police were having a lot of trouble trying to find the missing people. I'm guessing they have been looking for them, but I think even the police realize whatever is going on is much bigger than a mass kidnapping. I mean, it's a little unusual for such a huge number of people to just up and disappear without a trace. And considering the status of most of the people that were invited to the opening, you would expect maybe the kidnappers would demand some kind of reward. Of course, thanks to you I have an idea of what happened to those people and the reason a reward was not the motive here. But even then, I still don't know where all of the people were taken or how they got there." Twila explained. She sighed again, then looked at Sophie and smiled sadly.

"All the more reason we should hurry. I hope you don't think it strange of me to say, but somehow I feel as though we're about to play a major role in this thing."
