Theira and Menthis have always been at war. Nobody knows why, or even who started it. They only know that their side is right.
For centuries, battles were fought between the two countries' massive armies. It was massacre. Millions died in pointless battle for their country. The two leaders of the country, realizing this, came together for the first time in history to make a compromise. Instead of fighting wars, they would hold tournaments in which dragonriders would fight for the honor of their country.
This plan worked out well at first. Citizens of both countries flocked to the games, and spent their energy on cheering for their favorite riders rather than fighting each other.
But peace did not last for long. A masked dragonrider attacked a neutral village, setting it aflame. Nobody knew which side had truly commited the deed, but it was enough to send the countries back to war... except this time they used the dragonriders instead of soldiers in their armies.

Theira: Theira's government is that of an absolute monarchy; there are no aristocrats, only the royal family and high-ranking priests, military commanders, and scholars. Theoretically, anybody can get one of these positions, but it never quite seems to work out that way...
The Theiran dragons are desert dragons, huge and agile. They rely on sheer force to defeat the Menthian swamp dragons. Desert dragons are captured as adults by the trainers, which means that they're harder to control but a lot stronger. Riders must train for two years before they are even allowed in the saddle, and even then, it is another year before they can gain the trust of their dragon.

Menthis: A seaport country, right on the shores of the Andreic Sea. Menthis used to be a flourishing democracy, but the power of the people has been continually usurped by the Council for decades until it has turned into more of an oligarchy.
The dragons of Menthis are the swamp dragons, smaller than the desert dragons but faster and smarter. Menthian dragons are raised from the egg by the riders themselves; nobody else is allowed to even touch the dragonet until it is an adolescent. Raising a dragon this way takes six years, but the riders have a closer bond with the dragon.

PROFILES: Username: Kari Otogi Character name: Ariai "Ari" Fujiiro Age: 19 Personality: Softspoken and caring....when she's by herself or with loved ones. She's a romantic, but doesn't let her daydreaming ways get in the way of her job. Ariai seldom let's others see that side of her. On the battlefield she is sarcastic, strict, and stoic. To a certain degree, anyways. Bio: She was born in Theira, a rich scholar's daughter learning to be a Dragonrider. However, she didn't like the way the government worked, so stole away to Menthis and started a new life there...when she was 14. Her mother and father know about this, but secretly support it, and send large sums of money to her occasionally, or when she asks for it. Because of her upbringing, she still holds herself with pride and elegance, and commands a certain degree of superiority. No body knows that she is from Theira. Appearence:  (except with a black cloak) Strengths: She has the Elemental powers of Wind and Water, and can do other magic spells, whether basic or dangerously complicated. Weaknesses: The Element Earth, since it counters Water (and on the most part, Wind) Dragon's Name: Xonasil Dragon's Strengths: Xonasil, like his mistress, uses Wind and Water Elements. (No seriously, it is so random!) Bio: She was the top scholar of a renowned learning institute, but she gave it up to become a spy. Her early years were dedicated to the study of weapons, spells, physique and trickery, making her the ideal spy. Furthermore, her eyes are like a cat's, in a haunting way that has nothing to do with its appearance. She hypnotizes those who would reveal her, and hold them in her mind until eye contact is broken for longer than 3 seconds. As a teenager, she found her dragon in the mountains where she precieved him as a threat. After a two day combat, she nursed the collapsed dragon back to health, which miraculously earns his trust, but a thin one. Her pet is a gyrfalcon. He brought it home and kept it a secret from his family. 6 years later, his brother Fury found the dragon and went straight to his parents and told them. Blaze?s parents scolded him about lying and some other stuff (What parent doesn?t do that?), but they let him keep it. After eight happy years with his dragon companion he went into the military and became a rider. He now tries hard to become commander and to lead Menthian to victory. Bio: She comes from the desert surrounding Theira, born of a fierce nomadic people that is allied with Theira. She found a wounded dragon in the desert at the age of 14 and nursed it back to health. Now she (the dragon) is fiercely devoted to Aiya. Her parents, realizing her potential, sent her to be trained in the Theiran capital of Harus, and she quickly rose up the ranks. Aiya is one of the few commoners to ever attain the rank of Commander of the Theiran army, and the only woman. However, after the initial fighting had begun, the king decided that a man should be in control of his army and demoted her to second-in-command. Appearence:  Strengths: Intelligence, adaptability, stamina. Weaknesses: a fear of magic, since she's unable to defend herself from it. A soft whoosh signaled the arrival of the Menthian army's second-in-command. Ariai Fujiiro dismounted her dragon swiftly and gracefully, cheeks pink with cold. Xonasil shook off all of the tiny ice crystals on his scaled forest green colored skin acummulated during their flight in the clouds.
"It's too cold up there," the young woman sighed, rubbing her arms.
If you had put on a heavier jacket.... Xonasil snorted. Only to Ariai did the snort seem amused.
"Hush, you," she said, but fondly stroked his head. One curved and brightly white horn sprouted out from his forehead, and this was what she touched now. "It doesn't hurt?" she asked softly. "You hit that tree pretty hard." She giggled quietly.
Not at all, Mistress. Xonasil nuzzled her as a kitten would its mother. I'll be fine, do not worry. And it's not funny, he added.
"Alright, alright." She stroked it again before watching him leave to the Dragon's Nest to rest, then left for her own quarters.

((Sh*t!!! I forgot to put my elements in the bio sweatdrop I was thinking of physical strengths and weaknesses... heh.
Element strengths: Storm, Steel. Eventually Space when she gains seraphood. (Who knows when she'll get close to that sweatdrop )
Dragon strengths: Ice, earth. Eventually wood (because it is a derivative of earth) and light when he bonds with his mistress upon her initiation. (like I said, who knows when that'll happen? stare probably not in this RP. But just in case ^^)
RANDOM INFO: The gyrfalcon is dragon kin, so it spits snow, or ice, but not enough to hurt people. We just think it's really cute. ^^))
Riyoku lay next to her dragon. They were both pretty small in size, the mistress at 4 feet 11 inches and the dragon no longer than fifteen feet and only two or three feet wide. But Soreyon was stronger than most dragons twice his size, and wicked fast. So maybe he wasn't the best shot... alright, he's a horrible shot, but Ri was content with him. She snuggled up to him so the warmth from the fire all dragons have would warm her as well. His had long been dormant from the egg, he was an ice dragon, not a flame one, which made her love him even more. She couldn't think of any dragon more beautiful than hers. A pure moonlight silver, flawless save for the lightning shaped scar on his neck. He was a serpentine dragon, Draconis Mediasiana, from the coldest mountains in the world. Instead of scales, he had sleek, smooth plate armor that protected him better. The elegant face was long and refined, with slanted violet phoenix eyes, narrow and classy. His forehead jewel was single heptagon of amethyst. Spikey, but nubby bone structurs framed his face and the silver claws on gray talons were as sharp as daggers. The four great wings resembled the sails of an olden ship, with five ribs each, supporting the translucent film between them, phosphorescent in the moonlilght, brilliant in the sun.
Riyoku enjoyed admiring Soreyon, and he was quietly proud of his looks. There wasn't a single female dragon had fallen for his eyes once they set sight on him one time. But every male who saw him that decided he was an immediate threat to the territory. In the wild, it was an endless battle---fighting males, repelling females. Poor thing... he tried to kill Ri the first time they met, thinking she was a dragoness of some type. The confused thing was only a few years old.
She cuddled among his coils, contently dreaming.

"This is some sort of joke, right?" Aiya kept her face impassive on the outside, but the inside of her burned with outrage and humiliation. "I'm the best commander that you have. You know that."
"Yes, ma'am, I do." Thetis sighed and rubbed his bald head. "But there's nothing I can do to sway the king's decision. I'm only a scholar, after all; he's the son of the gods." He spoke the last bit with just a hint of sarcasm. His voice softening slightly, he added, "You're not getting kicked out of the army, miss. You can still work under him. You're still an officer. You just won't be on top anymore."
Aiya sighed. "Fine. I accept." For now, she added silently.
Striding out of the room, she headed straight for the barracks to give Seiryu a rubdown.

Blaze Kusanagi enjoyed the cold air blowing past him in the clouds as he and his dragon, Liquid, flew through every cloud. Blaze was a serious man, but he knew how to have fun. He kept his eyes open and cold air went right into his eyes; any normal person's eyes would have instantly water and the tears frozen, but Blaze wasn't a normal person. He patted Liquid's head and made confusing manuevers with his fingers. Liquid nodded and followed his movements, He flew towards the ground gaining speed as he descended. He then pulled up and made crazy loop-de-loops. On the last one he hung upside down for a while, which made Blaze fall off. As Blaze free fell he made his body as flat as possible and fell towards the water. At the last second Liquid caught him and they then flew back towards Menthian.

Seiryu shrieked,hissing at Aiya as the door to her stall banged open. "Huh?... Sorry, Sei." Drawing cautiously near, she picked up a cloth and a scouring brush. Most riders had a dragonboy do this job for them, but they were all terrified that Seiryu was going to bite their heads off, and Aiya didn't blame them. Even after six years with her dragon, she still had to watch her back with Seiryu.
