Along the cliff wall, were you to follow it away from the cove a ways, you would come across a little indentation in the otherwise sheer cliff face. And in this indentation is a fairly straight mulberry tree, it’s branches brushing along the sides of the indentation, as if the cliff has wrapped itself around the little berry-bearing tree to protect it.

Were you then to climb this tree, to a height of about 20 or 30 feet, and happen to climb out to the end of a branch that looks like a thick braid, then part the leaves, you may be surprised to find a tall, narrow crack in the wall of the cliff face.

The “hallway” runs about 3 feet in before it curves to the left, back toward the cove. After another 3 feet, the entranceway opens into a much larger cavern, one with a high ceiling, and ample space for several elves to lay down. Along the deepest edges of the cave it’s dark, very dark, so it’s hard to tell if there are any other openings into other cavernous rooms.

The room has been swept and the grass mats and various furs and blankets have been neatly folded and placed nearby the fire-pit which has been expanded. There is a stash of fairly damp, slightly muddy wood near enough the fire-hole to (hopefully) dry, but not to catch fire. Towards the back of the cave is the opening into the tunnel downwards, which Llune has hung a woven grass curtain over to keep out drafts and the like.

Along the part of the cave one cave wall there are a few rock-shaped shelves, with bundles and various supplies stocked neatly on them. Near the second, smaller opening to the outside is a little rock-shaped apparatus that collects rain water from outside, directs it to a small basin, and then drains away to the outside once it reaches a specified level. Near the entranceway is a small hole in the wall that holds the cocoons of several sleeping silkworms, although the edges of the hole have been rock-shaped into a pretty design.

After so many days of rain, the ground is completely saturated and can absorb nothing more. Over the course of the last night of sleep a fair amount of standing water has formed at the base of the cliff. Though the standing water isn't a threat to the members of the cave, it is likely that by the end of the storm it will be at least as deeper than a wolfrider is tall (or to about Llune and Savith's shoulder).

(This room is for the continuation of the Hurricane Pini plot - Day 4!)

Being cooped up from all the rain did nothing but irritate Autumn. It showed in her face and if one was close they could almost feel the tension in her. To keep from snapping at others Autumn made herself busy down in the hole that led to the vast deep. Making the floor smooth, making a wall around the pool except on the far side so nobody would fall in from the stairs and making various sized holes in the wall for Llune should she want to place things down here. If Llune wanted anything it was no trouble for Autumn. It kept her away from the others and from saying anything that might fly out in frustration.

Blaze carefully picked his way down the stairs, blinking owlishly in the gloom, his eyes not yet adjusted. The bustle of the elves in the small space above was not particularly irritating, but it was the sort of thing that could get irritating, if one didn't take a break from it every so often. And he needed a break.

Feeling his way blindly along the wall, he noted the smooth surface, and smiled. Slipping into a sitting position against the side of the cave, he crossed his legs and put his hands behind his head.

**You seem to have been keeping busy, Joy. Is it to better us all, or is it for your own benefit? Maybe both?**

The firestarter was waxing philisophical with so much time to do nothing but sit and think. It still didn't do much for his social skills, though.

*It is to better the home for the one who lives here.* Her mind a low sounding grumble. Not so much at him as just her mood was poor from being cooped up.

Eyes now adjusted well enough to see not to fall into the pool, Blaze crawled over over to the rim of the pool and looked over the low wall, staring into the inky blackness of the shaded sea. It was slightly terrifying, but he kept watching, his body tense for purchase on the stone surface.

**I see you made the edge smoother. That will save her many a scratch to her chest and stomach. Though I wonder, can she come up on the land? I know Croscurrent could shape his tail to legs, but this one... I cannot see why she chose to stay out in those vicious waters.**

His send took on a more serious tone, and narrowed to her mind alone.

**But I digress. It seems to me that you and I didn't get off to so good a start. I'd like to be shure of what you think I was doing that merited your displeasure, so that I might possibly make our time around eachother a bit less uncomfortable. We really aren't a big enough group to hold grudges without good reason.**

*You disliked me calling our now Chief a High One. Even if he and his Mother are as close to the High Ones as any of us would ever hope to be.* The send pulled back a bit. He could feel she didn't want to fight but still the hackles were coming up. *And this is not the vast deep elfs home. This is just a place she showed up. This is part of the tall ones home. I do this for her.*

The firestarter plowed in with the grace of a trainwreck. **Well if you mean by actions alone, both of us are fully capable of putting on tight pants and acting like everything is a big deathparty (funeral). If you mean by decendance, the blood of the First runs in all of us, all in equal measure. The only thing left is height.** "And I'd be just as tall as those gliders if I'd had more to eat as a babe."

He turned to face her, pointing a finger to the ceiling in a declarative manner, his send rising in intensity. **Furthermore, I have no problem with what you wish to call them. If they are High Ones to you, then call them High Ones, and be content. But know that they breathe, sleep, and even bleed just as we do. So I call him Chief, becuse that is his station, and I call her Llune, because that is her name. And to them both, I call them elves, because that is what they are. That is what we all are, and only are.**

As he sent, he paced closer, untill he could see her face in the dark, his own expression curious, seeking an answer. **Am I wrong?**
PostPosted: Sat Nov 29, 2008 7:51 am

As the intensity of his send grew her mind pushed back. As he came to face her those jade orbs wouldn't turn away first. The hairs on the back of Autumns neck stood on end and her face became like the stone she shaped. *I suppose all the rest of us were undernourished as cubs then. The cat elf, the desert elf and such. This world has taken all our kind in its jaws and meddled with what we once were. How could I expect you to understand what was given to my tribe through the countless moons?* Her mind growling out each word as she placed her hand against a wall and a pillar of stone came up from the floor to her other hand. She gripped them both to keep herself grounded. To keep herself from doing anything that might make trouble with in the group. Eyes still locked on his the face sneered, *You have come to me to start a fight. To finish what was started it seems.* Her mind was shifting, becoming more feral. The wolf was waking fully and feeling challenged. She would not back off if he didn't and her attack would be for the throat. This would not end well for either of them should the elf in both of them not surface soon.

Blaze rocked backwards on his heels, then simply sat. Pressing the soles of his feet together, he looked up at her without a shred of malice in him. He might as well have been a cub listening to a story. **I beg you, be very carefull of starting fights. I may kill you, or you might kill me; we have no real idea of how lethal the other is, or how willing they are to destroy another. And if that came to pass, it would leave the rest in very dire straights indeed. So listen to what I have to say, and then decide if I need finishing.

I only want understanding. I want to know if I am wrong, and I have to say what I think if I am to be corrected. I think the changes that came over us from what you call meddling have made us better, for this existance at least. You say that they are wrong somehow, and that they make us less than what we were. I want to know why you think that, so I can add it to my own reasoning if it seems true.**

The challenge met and in Autumns eyes won she started to calm down. The pillar in her hand went back into the ground. The wall her other hand was clenching to became smooth again. Turning from Blaze for a bit she took a few slow breaths. *I..... I don't want to hurt anyone but the animal will not be challenged either. If you come at me in aggression I will respond in kind.* The send was low and calming. It held a longing in it for something more along with a confusion about this new tribe/pack. Should she stay or keep looking for others who thought as she did. She would give them a bit longer. *If you ask me I will tell you anything. You have but to ask, not come at me with anger. As for why I feel the way I do it is what we were taught as cubs.* Again the confusion fills her head and send. After hearing from both Savith and Llune and what they thought and now Blaze. It seemed Autumn was the one questioning her beliefs and wondering why so many others found it hard to understand. *We lack so many things the High Ones all held. A grace and elegance beyond our brute and rough ways for one. You are lucky that you at least can pull yourself back from rage. It is much harder for me then I would admit to most.* Autumn sat on the floor as well not to far from Blaze. Even in the darkness and the lack of sound other then the lapping of water at the rock surface Blaze could feel her staring at him. Taking in his every detail.

**I will remember that, then.** The firestarter kept his eyes on hers, but he wasn't unaware of the changes in the stone, or her stare.

**I think I see, now. You are a more wolfish people than I thought. The Gliders aren't your masters, they're your leaders, perhaps even protectors? You look to them for guidance, as something to hold onto, a living representation of the First to keep the wolf part of you from taking over? It seems someone who sees in the dark and howls at the moon would have the best apreciation for rough ways. But I get the feeling you dislike them more than anything.**

His send almost a laugh, he continued. **I think I am learning something. Do I make sense, or have I missed the target completely?**
PostPosted: Sun Nov 30, 2008 7:24 pm

*My pack had a true High One to guide them when it first split from the original pack the High Mother started. When many turned on the High Ones and called them useless. Our pack saw truth in what they had to say. Yes, I guess you could say we look to the High Ones as leaders. As something we could only become by death.* Blaze was sent images that were passed down through countless turns of seasons in her pack. A glittering shining figure of a male. Tall and regal with a light about him that shined in his eyes. *He was Zeer. He helped us and we helped him. He helped us think and we kept him fed and warm. His teachings told how each of our gifts were passed down blessings from the High Ones.* She looked up the stairs to the dimly lit room everyone now huddled together in. *I do not know what a glider is. Nor do I know any of the strange packs I have met here but I do know what a High One looks like, moves like and acts like and if they are not High Ones then they are as close as this mixed blood will ever see until her death finds her.* Here the send filled with an aww and wonder as she thought of the two tall elves up those stairs but suddenly pulled back and almost growled as she said, *But I am confused on what to call them and what to think. It makes my head hurt to think that everything I learned was wrong. But it can't all be wrong can it?* Now she mashed a rock in her hands like she had done upstairs during the meeting. It gave her hands something to do. *I don't like the pain in my head. It makes me want to bite and that isn't good.* Autumn then threw the rock in the water with an echoing splash.

Dancer woke the next morning with blinking sleepy eyes. She found she had cuddled up to Creek Runner and smiled as she lay there close to him. Still in her tiny blanket she blushed a little as she made sure nothing was showing that might make Llune be overly embarrassed. Dancer then snuggled up again to Creek Runner and put her head on his chest. His slow beating heart sounded nice in her ear. The light raise and fall of his chest made Dancer sleepy again and so she didn't mind one bit or fight the urge to let the blue pools slip closed again and drift off for another quick cat nap where she was. A soft contented sigh escaping her throat as she drifted away. "mmmmmmmmmmm"

Something sparked in the firestarter's head at the image of the one of the what he'd called First, but what was bound to that memory was bound to others and he would not have those memories in his head, not now, not ever. So he crushed them like one would crush a creepping skittering thing with a rock, and reached out gingerly to put a hand on Joy's shoulder. **Well my advice for you is to think that way; that they are closer than any, but still far. Or perhaps they are farther than any, but still close. Nevermind that; I think mad thoughts. I think that they like their names, and if it pleases you you should call Savith Chief, even if he doesn't like it. And you are not wrong in your ways. You hunt, and protect, and they will teach, and guide, and I will watch, and I will learn. It is a good way, I think.** He let go with a slight push, and stood. **Save your biting for food. Or you'll really have a pain in the head.** He offered her a hand up. **Come, do you really want to be down here in the wet and the cold? No wonder you've got a headache.**

Savith had been curled up in a seated position, arms about his nees which were drawn up to his chest. He hadn't been asleep, and when the sending below flickered just beyond easy reach, he turned his head slightly, eyes opening into emerald slivers. Mind prickling from the sends drifting up, the Chosen did what Chosen do best for their Lord. Savith eavesdropped. ninja
