In the beginning the universe was a vast empty expanse. There was nothing in it except a mass of primordial slush. This was the originator of all things; it held the essence of everything that would ever exist. This source material had always existed because nothing comes from nothing, something always has to come from something, and this is the something from which all things came. The primordial material stewed and churned and the first thing birthed from it was Lightning. Lightning was pure energy and wherever it struck the primordial material a being was spawned. As they had been born from creative source and power, these beings were also Creators and they were immortal and non-sexed. There were many Creators and they all started to make living things from the primordial substance. But the universe was still a vast empty expanse, so their creations kept floating away aimlessly. They needed something for their creations to anchor to so they could all be together. So the creators used the primordial source material to make the world. They made mountains and valleys, oceans and rivers, caves and deserts. Then they anchored every living thing to it. The plants became rooted and the animals’ life strings were tied to the earth. The birds kept flying away out into the universe though. So the creators made the sky. They wrapped it around the earth like a blanket and it was too heavy for the birds to fly through, so they were now contained. They also tied Lightning to the sky so they could work without it crashing around all over the place. Lightning became the herald for the life giving rain. They filled the sky with the sun, moon, and stars and set them on their paths. The creators continued to fill the world with every kind of plant and animal there is. Each Creator made at least one type of each kind of living thing. That is why among the deer there are many kinds, and among the fish there is great variety, and there are myriad insects. This diversity beautified the world and each creature fit into a special role that balanced the world. Because what they made was not brought to life with the everlasting energy of Lightning though, their creations were mortal. So they made them able to reproduce in pairs in order to live forever through generations; thus their creations were creators too. It came to the point that the Creators had used up all but the last little bit of primordial material. There was hardly enough left to make anything with, so they mixed it with a little bit of everything they had created thus far. Jealous Lightning saw that now was its last chance to create again and when the Creators weren’t looking it struck that last piece of mixed up source material. From this the Chameleon Creator was born. This Creator was made from the original source material and all other things and so was a shape shifter. Chameleon Creator also created new kinds of life to fill the world with by manipulating the generations of species into different adaptations. This Creator made all the living things that are ambiguous in nature such as the birds that don’t fly, birds that swim, amphibians that live on land and in water, one celled organisms that clone themselves, plants that eat animals, and animals that can change between male and female. All of these strange things were divinely created and so fit perfectly into the cyclical world order. Now the earth is complete. Everything has been made and runs smoothly in balance. The Creators have run out of primordial material and their work is done. They decide to leave this world and explore the rest of the universe; they are curious as to what happened to some of their earlier creations that floated away before the earth was made. As they take one last look at the world they made and its beautiful diversity, they realize that, although there are many variations of each of their creations, the Creators are singular in their type. Knowing that this is not how the universe operates, they foresaw that in the future there would be intelligent creators like them; a kindred or cousin to them. And so they decided to leave behind something by which these new intelligent beings would know them; a way to communicate to them the origin and order of everything in this world. One of the Creators was sacrificed and its body was broken into millions of pieces. These pieces were scattered all over the world and became Spirit Guardians. Then the Creators left this world. But one Creator was left behind. Because Chameleon Creator was made of the world, it was tied to the earth and could not leave. Even though the world was beautiful and full of life, as time passed Chameleon Creator became bored and lonely. There were no like minds for this Creator to communicate, share, and create or express itself with. Chameleon Creator decided to make one last new thing, but this creation would have a mind to share with. The Creator had all the materials needed except for the life giving primordial substance. It had already been completely used up. Chameleon Creator tried using the salt water that composed the home that was the ocean, but it didn’t work and the bodies dissolved. Then the Creator tried using the life giving freshwater to fashion the bodies, but it too didn’t work and they fell apart. Finally, Chameleon Creator used its saliva to make the bodies stick together and come to life. Thus humans were made and had the essence of their creator from the saliva. Just as there was diversity among the plant and animal species, there was glorious diversity among the new people. Because the plants and animals were made by many different Creators they were varied in shape, form, and function. Because humans were made by one Creator their diversity was cosmetic, but they were really all the same otherwise. Chameleon Creator spread the people across the globe and told them to explore all of existence and fill their minds with discovery. Humans were introduced to the Spirit Guardians who became their partners in knowing the world. The Spirit Guardians communed with the people and told them the secrets of life on this planet. Together they learned the ways of the seasons, how to produce fire, how to track and hunt, how to grow food, and how to predict the weather. The people communed and lived happily with the Spirit Guardians and Chameleon Creator enjoyed their learning and discovery. Just as they came from creative force, humans were creators too. Because they had minds they created more than just generations of themselves. They created art, music, dance, storytelling, tools, and more. But they also created many generations of themselves and as time passed there were more and more and more people. It got to the point that there were many more people than Spirit Guardians. The people started talking to each other more and the Spirit Guardians less and less. This was not good because when the people didn’t talk to the Spirit Guardians for a long time they began to forget how the balance of the world worked. Chameleon Creator decided that in order to get the humans to talk to the Spirit Guardians again, they must have less human options to talk to. So Chameleon Creator gave different communities living together different languages. Now they could only talk to their small communities and the Spirit Guardians who were universally understandable. This worked for a time, but then the human populations grew and grew until they once again started to ignore the Spirit Guardians. By this time there were so many people not working within the boundaries of the natural order that entire species were being consumed and wiped out. The world was being thrown off balance. Chameleon Creator and the Spirit Guardians could not force the people to listen and get back on the right track. Eventually, people started dying from starvation and exposure because they had forgotten the survival secrets the Spirit Guardians taught them. Chameleon Creator also adapted some of the bacteria and viruses so they would kill off some of the human population that was overwhelming the world. The world itself fought back through natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. All of nature hoped that these events would shock and awe the humans back into communion with the Spirit Guardians and balance would be restored. Most of the humans did not go back to the old ways though. Instead they moved “forward” and used their minds to invent things with which they could fight against nature and the world instead of adapting and living with it. It is unknown if the Creators were ever going to come back or if earth’s balance will ever be restored while humans live ignorantly on it. Sometimes they rediscover old knowledge through their new processes, but the pace is slow and the destruction of unbalance is fast. By remembering the history of existence and how they came to be, humans may yet be restored to their former natural companionship with nature, the Spirit Guardians, and Chameleon Creator.

I can see a lot of borrowed ideas from creation stories, but I like the way you weaved the principles of them in with your own imginative creativity. Was it coincidental, or did you purposely hint and equality among all humans mid way through the part about them ? smile
Good stuff Chance, i'd love to see more if you furthered this little world of yours cool wink

of course i had to include that humans were created equal, so many creation myths say they aren't, i had to balance it out
