The walk back along the riverbanks was sort of a slow and boring one. Still, it couldn't have been that bad. At least the riverbanks provided a somewhat easier trek into the heart of the woods than going straight through the dense underbrush. And Alex was always looking over his shoulder, making sure that the folks who had decided to accompany him from the gathering and fish fry weren't too far behind him.

"We're just about there...", he called out as he spotted a small but used path up from the bank of the river, up into the forest. By now it was getting towards dusk, and the pilot was more than happy to be closer to home, or what passed for a home.

He adjusted the fishing spear that rested over his shoulder, the bag of fried fish still hanging from the end of it, as though Alex were some half-mythical hobo.

"I just hope Gerta's not out on one of her wanderings again. And I hope she likes fried fish. Hmm. I should have asked her about it before I caught so many. Eh, live and learn." Alex was more talking to himself by this point, but it didn't bother him, since it gave him some time to collect his thoughts while waiting for the rest to catch up.

Coren loved the woods always loved the woods, the smell of the trees the shade the beauty. But the woods with a hump was a whole new matter, She hated the woods with a hump. It seemed to get in the way of most of the branches as if they were drawn to her. After so long the skin seemed a bit harder, but that also didn't make the branch scratching down her spine any better. It was still a shitty feeling and would always be a shitty feeling.

She looked at those around her maybe to see if any of them were having the same issue or close to it. Maybe get some happiness outta it, more so she wanted to let out a string of swears into the wind just to make her self feel better.

When Alex yelled they were almost there she gave a small hop of joy, "About time." She almost feel over a log as she picked up the pace in a bit of Let me out now.

Gerta had just finish milking her goats, and was resting comfortably in a chair just outside her hut, drinking tea in the sun. She could hear that someone was coming along, she couldn't quite tell who yet, but she could guess.

"Alex, is that you there, who else is with you?"

Leaning on her staff Blythe struggled through the forest and while it was not the branches causing her issue it was instead the roots and uneven footing. Yet struggle along she did, noting how eclectic the group seemed to be. With a wry chuckle she nearly hopped as well when told they were almost there.

The woman who called back was someone she did not expect to be called a witch, she looked to be more of someone's kindly old grandmother. Looking around she tried to see if Jamie was there yet.

Alex grinned as he heard Gerta's voice. It had been a while since he'd last talked to her. He made his way up towards her hut and smiled, "Hi Gerta. It's Alex alright." He looked back at the others and clicked the edges of his beakmouth together. "And the others are some folks like me..."

He took the spear he'd been carrying the fish with off his shoulder, so he could wiggle his shoulder and winglet and then walked up towards Gerta. "I was out fishing, and so I went ahead and cooked a bunch of extras that I had for you and Jamie. Oh, but yeah, let me introduce you to the others."

He looks to Coren and grinned, "This is Coren. She arrived here a bit after me and the others, and then there's Blythe. Blythe actually was with me and Jamie when we originally were at the Baron's. And then...." The half gryphon stood up on his toes even moreso to look over the shoulders of Coren and Blythe, and blinked. "And... I think we have some stragglers still."

Alex worked on pulling the sachel of cooked fish from the spear, which wasn't exactly easy on his deformed hands. "How are you doing though? I was worried when you weren't here when I brought Jamie by. And... where is he anyways? Off collecting seeds for his garden?" The pilot was sort of pleased at the thought of Jamie taking one of his suggestions for a garden to heart. Plus the kid did seem to be the most adept adjusting to the land.

Coren let Alex do most of the talking what was there really to say. She studied the lady in the process there wasn't nothing abnormal about her. No green skin or warts like alot of witches in movies. So it was easy to decide that so far she was safe.

"Nice to meet ya im sure." She stepped forward and offered her hand then thought if they even did that back then or now. or where ever they were.

"a pleasure to meet you Coren, and everyone. And it is good to see you again Alex. I was knew I could smell some fish." Gerta said as she shook Coren's hand and waited for any stragglers to catch up and come closer to the cottage, she didn't want to be a poor host even to those that weren't entirely human.

"Jamie has been well but I am worried about him, he was out yesterday and hasn't come back yet, Damian and Adam are out looking for him but I don't know where he has gone" Gerta explained, folding her hands in her lap. "he has been very helpful and worry he might have gotten lost or run into unsavory folk"

"A pleasure to meet you Ms. Elkweed," Blythe moved her way into the clearing slowly wary of thw wider more open spaces now. She looked around the cosy looking homestead taking in the hut and aray of animals. This seemed like a fine place for Jamie to reside in right now, yet where was the boy.

"He has been out all day? Perhaps we should look for him, last I saw of him he was searching for berries and seeds in a near-by clearing," Her British accent piqued with curiousity.

The pilot walked over to Gerta, and offered her the large deal of fish he'd cooked, with some assistance of the others. "Yeah, it seems everyone could smell the fish who were in the area. But... you say Jamie's been out?" He looked around and then frowned as best he could with his beaked mouth.

He looked over to Blythe and shook his head. "Do you really think you're in much condition to go trouncing around the forest? I'd rather not have anyone else get lost at this rate. Plus, Damien knows a lot about the forest. And he's part wolf. I'm sure he can find him easier than you." Alex's tail twitched as he looked away. "I'm worried about him too...", he said to a question not yet asked.

"I'll go look for him. If nothing else, I should go make sure Anthony didn't get lost on the way with us. I'm not about to lose anyone else out here...", he said. He just didn't want the others to get so split up again. Finding them was getting harder at times, and he didn't want to lose anyone else.

It was easy to see there was in fact nothing different about her. Hell she reminded Coren of one of the few grandparents she actually noticed. She looked over at Alex when he asked where Jamie was, the kid should be happy he was worried about. Knowing him he was being a kid ran off what not, course if Damian was looking for him odds were he would be found.

"everyone of us has been lost at sometime maybe it will do him some good." there she went talking before thinking it out. She sighed then looked at the small group that had entered the clearing.

"im sure Damian will find him, tho im not sure who this Adam is."

"Adam's my Dog" Gerta told Coren. "Not the brightest of dogs, but friendly and loyal to the end." The old woman took the fish Alex offered and looked towards Blythe. " Aye, He's been out a while now, but I'm sure someone will run into him and help bring him on back"

Tsking at Alex she narrowed her eyes at him. "Mr. Barrett you obviously do not know who you are speaking to. I believe that comment was not the wisest thing to say at this junction, to remind one of their weaknesses brought on by this nightmare."

Hobbling closer Blythe looked him in the eyes, her own flashing as the air about them noticeably chilled. "Tact, Mr. Barrett, will keep this group together far better then simply ordering. This could have been handled in a private side conversation, then out in the open. For how many of a herd will survive if the herd itself is dangerous ground? Learn from this young man and all will be well between us."

She then turned in the direction of the supposed "witch".

"If you would pardon this little upset, and if it would not bother you too much, would like the company and possible aid of this matron in your dwelling keep?" She gave a slight bow towards the woman, glancing over at Coren she studied her briefly before nodding in acceptance of her mobility.

Alex sighed softly as he was chastised by Blythe. At least Gerta was fine with all the cooked fish. Still, he wasn't exactly keen on being scolded by the partly cat-bird teacher. He turned a bit to say something, then grumbled a bit and looked away. He wasn't in the mood to start a fight over something that was rather unimportant at the time.

So he just sighs and looks back to Gerta. "Yeah, you're probably right." He sort of remembered Adam, from when he first visited Gerta's hut, and remembered that the dog didn't seem to like him at all.

The pilot's ear tuffs twitched and he slowly walked back down towards the river. "Anthony!", he called out, wondering where the large kid had stumbled off too. He was sure he'd been following them to Gerta's, but maybe he had gotten lost or just fell behind. Either way, it was good enough reason to get away from Blythe for a bit, to let her cool down if nothing else.

"ok," she wasn't sure what else to say to that Adam was a dog hopefully a normal dog. She looked around at the group and pictured some demon dog from the horror films.

Suddenly Blythe went all out and shivers ran down her spine, "don't you think you can give him a bit of a break i mean he did take you here." she regretted getting in the middle after she had said it but it was a bit to late.

To try to keep what peace there was she looked back to Gerta, "so your out here alone?" was sorta a dumb question but was a counter to other things.

"oh as long as you all behave I would be grateful to have the company, Jamie has been great to have around" Gerta told Blythe and looked around all her guests then back to Coren. "Yes, mostly out here alone, its peaceful and nobody has come by to give me any trouble, unlike when I lived in Loghedge. You don't make or sell magical items unless its sanctioned by the church, which I didn't so was called a witch and forced to leave, But I've been much better out here than living under the Church's eye" Gerta explained as she heard a barking far off, that quickly got closer, until a big wolfhound ran up to Gerta.

"Oh Adam you're back! did you and Damian find Jamie?" she asked the dog who barked in response and Gerta petted his head. "Is Damian still with Jamie?" Another back from Adam and Gerta sighed. "Well thats good, hopefully they'll soon both be on their way"
