As the walked up to the restaurant doors, Drake ran a bit ahead of Courtney and held open the door for her.
"Thank you, Drake." she said in a slightly surprised tone, "You are such a gentleman."
"Anything for you, cookie." said Drake.
Courtney giggled again. She really liked the way that Drake was treating her. He was being so polite and nice. It was really nice.
They were seated immediately in a booth with only one other couple a few tables away, so it was pretty private.
"This is a really nice restaurant." observed Courtney.
"Yeah, well, I wanted our 'first date' to be special. You know, we only have one more week of summer?"
"Oh, I know. But don't worry. I'm not going to busy myself so much this year. I'm going to have plenty of time to spend with you."
"Glad to hear it, baby. And I'll have lots of time to spend with you too."
"Aww, sugar." Courtney leanded over the table and gave him a kiss. When she sat back down, she thought to herself, Wow! I can't believe that I remembered HIS pet name too. Things are just starting to come back to me.
The waitress came and took their orders. For the entire night, they talked about their separate summers. Drake had been searching for other girlfriends, he said. "But none of those girls could ever make me feel like I do when I'm with you."
Courtney talked about her time on TDI and on the "loser" island. "It was nice at the resort," she said, "But I was too upset to enjoy it. I think I just take things too seriously sometimes."
"Aww, baby. That's one of the things I love about you."
Courtney smiled.
When they finished there dinner, Drake put a twenty and a ten inside the bill folder. When the waitress came to pick it up, she noticed Courteny.
"Hey!" said the waitress, "Aren't you Courtney. From Total Drama Island."
"Oh, you saw the show?" asked Courtney.
"Absolutely! I totally loved that episode where you and Duncan kissed. That was so romantic."
"Yeah, well, it doesn't really matter anymore. I have a real boyfriend now."
The waitress looked at Drake. Then Courtney noticed a certain twinkle in both their eyes. She was about to say something, when Drake said, "Well, I think thirty should cover it. Keep the change as a tip."
"Okay, thanks."
Courtney was about to say something to Drake about the waitress, then she changed her mind about it. It was probably just my imagination she decided.
As the were leaving the restaurant, Courtney accidentally tripped over a small rock.
Drake caught her just before she hit the ground, "Whoa! You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks." said Courtney.
Then something on the ground caught Drakes eye.
"Hey, what's this?" he picked it up. It was Courtney's wooden skull that she had in her pocket. It must have fallen out when she tripped.
"Oh...oh that? T-t-that's n-nothing really."
Drakes face suddenly filled with anger. He grabbed Courtney's arm and dragged her to the car in the parking lot. No one was around. They were alone.
"Listen, cookie," said Drake in a raised voice, "Your are my girlfriend now! If you want it to stay that way, then I suggest you START ACTING LIKE IT!"
"It's just a little wooden skull! What's the big threat?!?!" Courtney shot back.
"THREAT! Oh, there's no threat! But, I'M in charge here! Unless you want to go back to lonely Friday nights, then I suggest you FORGET ABOUT THAT STUPID DUNCAN!!!"
"He's NOT stupid, Drake!"
Drake grabbed Courtney's wrist and squeezed hard.
"Ow! Drake, your hurting me!"
Drake whispered into Courtney's ear, "From now on, if I say someone's stupid, you back me up. Got it?"
Courtney was scared, so she just meekly nodded her head. Drake let her go. He started speaking in a gentle, nice voice again, "Good. Now let's get you home."
They drove home in silence. Courtney was stunned by the whole thing.
When Courtney finally arrived home, she ran straight up stairs, plopped down on the bed, and cried herself to sleep. She finally remembered why she had a bad feeling about Drake. But it was too late. Unless she wanted to be lonely again, it was something she would just have to deal with.
