Does it make sense that new bands are using the term "Post-punk", when they wheren't around prior to the punk movement?

It seems nonesensical to me.

Please share your opinnions.

I posted a thread very similar to this about a year ago but whatever.

The main reason that its called a Post Punk Revival is because of all the 80's fetishism thats happened in this decade. They've made a revival of almost every 80's genre!

Journalists are just lazy, they decided to group a lot of completely different sounding groups who may have been influenced by post punk bands despite all the differences between them.

Sure Post Punk was a very broad genre, incorporating a lot of different bands but its almost impossible to compare a bands like Franz Ferdinand to Snowden together as much as it is to compare them with original bands like The Slits and Bauhaus. The Post Punk Revival is just too wide a genre and there are so many shitty bands (Interpol) for me to take it seriously.

Although some stick kinda close to the roots of post punk like The Violets who are almost identical sounding to Siouxsie.
