1. You see the avatar attached to this speech bubble? Yeah, it's mine, and so is this RP. I reserve the right to do whatever the hell I want to, thank you very much. Call me Music or Mu biggrin
2. Aerene and Shadows After Dawn are my moderators. They will assist you when I am either absent or not quite present.
3. Please be semi-lit/literate. I am not asking you to write me a story every time you post. At least a paragraph (3-5 sentences) would be nice, though. Despite what I tell you later, I want all profile PMs titled "Weird Romance." Also, please try to make sure that the person you are posting to has something to post off of, since it helps ease writers' block (which we all suffer from once in a while).
4. Please read over your posts and try to have as few spelling/grammar/punctuation errors as possible. Remember, quality over quantity! Of course, I'm not going to yell at you for a few typos!
5. You know the basics: No Mary-Sues/Gary-Stus, no godmoding or auto-hitting, none of *this* or -that-. Honestly, if I have to explain any of that, you don't belong here.
6. While I know that everybody has their own styles, I request that you write in third person, preferably past tense.
7. Follow the Gaia ToS, of course. I do intend for there to be romance in this roleplay eventually. However, no cybering. I cannot stress this enough. Not even in PMs. If I have good reason to suspect you of cybering via PMs, I will report you.
8. As far as cursing is concerned, I am not extremely bothered, but others may be. Don't go overboard. Use it to stay in-character, and try to avoid it in OOC.
9. Send all profiles to me, titled "Amazing Penetration." Also, include the pirate emote anywhere you want. If you do not set up the PM as I have asked, I will give you one more chance to read the rules before I reject it.
10. Make sure all OOC is clearly separate from the post. (()), (), [], you know the drill.
11. I am not going to ask for an RP sample; your profile should show your skills. Therefore, I insist that you make it good. Triple check it if you have to--read it out loud. However, if it is later shown that your actual skills don't live up to your profile, I will kick you out.
12. Please be active! This RP took a lot of planning and I really don't want it to die! If you plan to be gone for more than a week, please let me, Aerene, or Shadows After Dawn know. If you do not post at least once within a two-week period, and I don't have a reason why, your profile(s) will not be taken down, but I will change your character's status to open and if someone else applies you will be replaced.

Imagine a future where advertising is illegal. All those annoying adverts and brainwashing jingles: gone. Sounds good, doesn't it?
Well not for the companies that want you to buy their merchandise. And when the ban was set in place, these companies had to come up with more creative ways to get your attention, to make you want what they have to offer. Of course, the answer was obvious. If celebrities had it, normal people would want it. Unfortunately, it wasn't so easy; celebrities are hard to control. However, a few years of top-secret scientific testing have given companies such as Syntech a semi-permanent solution.
Artificial celebrities. "Mere simulacrums." Beautiful bodies into which they can simply beam the souls of willing guinea pigs, hopeless individuals with no self-esteem. The only real difficulty seems to lie in finding said souls. Many are willing, but few are able to give up any sense of self and become an entirely new person. Regardless, Syntech and its competitors are continuing to advertise through their synthetic celebs, and sales have never been higher.
Now it's just a case of keeping a constant supply of operators, and of course keeping the project top-secret. What about you? Would you be willing to reject your own body for a new one? Would it be worth it?

{ "She's beautiful." "She's meat." } Following are notes on each of Syntech's available hosts. Each technician is to have his or her own copy. This information is not to leave the lab, on penalty of termination.
To avoid confusing the public, operators are required to adhere to the preexisting personalities of the hosts. It is the duty of the technician to match the operator as closely as possible with an appropriate host where possible. Operators are not forbidden from interacting outside of their hosts, but Syntech strongly advises them not to.
[x] Name: Ming-Li Age: 20 Sex: Female Notes:Ming-Li is Syntech's cover girl. She dominates magazines across the country, and even in other continents. She has been a part of Syntech for nearly two years, but already has her own clothing line and is a household name. To be cool means to own at least one thing designed by Ming-Li. She picks up a new operator, on average, every five or six months. They usually would rather be in Ming-Li's body, partying with other beautiful people, than return to their own. As a result, the operator's bodies do not get enough exercise, mentally or physically, and they fail. Her current operator, however, seems to be doing fine.
[x]Name: Azzurra Age: 22 Sex: Female Notes:Azzurra and her partner, Liron, are Syntech's most popular pair, and have been performing together for about three years. Their already-sold-out world tour was set to begin about two weeks after Liron's technical difficulties. Despite this, Azzurra is still going on, hoping to have her partner back before they reach Europe. Unlike her partner, Azzurra is only just breaking into the acting business, though she is considering a couple of lead roles after her tour is over. Surprisingly, Azzurra is one of the hosts whose operator changes the most frequently--but there is always a soul to replace the lost one. Normally the stress of the fame gets to the operator, but quite a few times the operator has grown too cocky and their contract with Syntech was terminated. Her most recent change was actually a few days after Liron's technical difficulties, but her operator was swiftly replaced.
[x] Name: Eirian Age: 24 Sex: Female Notes:Eirian is a talented actress and Syntech's most senior host. She was the first completely successful host, and her first operator (her name was Erin) was the only real success thus far. When Eirian was created nearly five years ago, her operator was about seventeen. The girl was frail, and the technicians worried that she would not be able to withstand the installation process. However, the CEO insisted on using her, and she turned out to be perfect. To everyone's shock, the girl lasted a little over two years without fault. Unfortunately, it all quite literally came crashing down upon her. While preparing for a new movie, Eirian was behind the set going over her lines when one of the sandbags used to move props up and down came loose and fell on top of her. It was not enough to destroy the host, nor was it enough to cause suspicion when Eirian lived, but the pain transferred through to the operator, and sickly Erin was killed. Since then, Syntech has found it nearly impossibly to recreate what they had with Erin, and Eirian's successful operators have lasted at the most about eight months--which is usually long enough to film a movie. Her current operator has been in place a little over a month.
[x]Name: Suk-Sung Age: 17 Sex: Male Notes:Suk-Sung is Syntech's newest host. He has been in commision for about eight months, but has already gone through five operators. In his case, it's not necessarily that they were too autonomous. Rather, Suk-Sung's line of work has proven a little dangerous for operators. Suk-Sung is an athlete, especially involved in extreme sports. Generally, if he becomes injured, the injury is not enough to destroy the host, but enough to transfer to the operator. Operators tend to be weak in body and mind to begin with, and often they are badly injured or do not wish to continue after being injured. Currently, Suk-Sung is without an operator while his body is updated to hopefully prevent further harm to future operators--as far as the public is concerned, he broke both of his legs and is recovering in Syntech's private hospital facility. However, Syntech is seeking a new operator for use after the host's updates are complete.
[x]Name: Rory Age: 19 Sex: Male Notes:Syntech's token 'bad boy', Rory's main focus is on teenagers. Girls want to date him; guys want to be him; parents don't want their children listening to his music, but let them anyway. Whilst in his body, Rory's operator is often given the most freedom to argue back, as long as they are obedient in the end and when not in the body--Syntech feels this will make his character more genuine on-stage. His performances are extremely popular due to not only the sheer volume of the music, but the extravagant use of props. Rory quite likely does the more advertising in one show than any of the other stars do in one week. His operators have typically been guys fresh out of high school, and sometimes in college, who are bored with their lives. Because of the appeal of being so famous, they also tend to last longer than some of the other operators. The case with Rory's operators is usually that they realize that they have no control over their lives anymore, and have their contracts terminated in attempts to reattain that control.
[x]Name: Liron Age: 21 Sex: Male Notes:One of Syntech's most popular headliners, Liron's shows with his partner Azzurra always sell out. He always plays the leading man, and is Syntech's pride and joy, as well as their cash cow. A few weeks ago, though, there were some technical difficulties with his operator which have caused Liron to be out of commission until a new operator is found. As far as the public knows, Liron is in the hospital after a car crash, and they have been sending him piles of fan mail. He is currently supposed to be on a world tour with Azzurra. Syntech is desperate for a new operator but the ones they tested lasted a little over a few hours.

Money, power, fame... Cadeyrn's desires are quite simple, and extremely shallow. He cares very little for others, and is only interested in getting the public to buy Syntech's products. He has absolutely no problem with terminating a host when necessary--or even when not so necessary.
Personality:
Cadeyrn's personality is quite typical for his profession. He is a smooth-talking businessman. He is highly ambitious, and won't let anyone stand in his way. He is also extremely fake the majority of the time. As CEO of Syntech, Cadeyrn makes sure to smile pretty for the camera, but he can have a scary temper behind the scenes if something goes wrong. He takes the lives of operators lightly, but that does not mean he wants them to die--if they die, Syntech has to go to the trouble of replacing them. Rather, one of his goals is to recreate what happened with Eirian's first operator, minus the accidental death. He wants someone who can last years in a host, and will not rest until he finds them.
History:
Syntech was founded by Cadeyrn's grandfather, back when advertising was still legal. The company was successful, and eventually the man retired and passed it on to his son. About ten years later, the law banning advertising was passed. Cadeyrn's father did what many others were doing at the time, and invested in celebrity endorsements. Watching his father, an 18-year-old Cadeyrn noticed how difficult the celebrities were being. There had to be another solution... It was at this point the young man began playing around in the research labs.
When Cadeyrn was 20, his mother left his father--who had begun to neglect his family--and ran away to Jamaica with some man Cadeyrn never met. His father, on the other hand, had been doing more than just neglecting his family. The man had been cheating on his wife for nearly half a year with another married woman. The woman's husband found out a few months later and murdered Cadeyrn's father It is perhaps the bad examples set by his parents that gave Cadeyrn the personality he has, but that much can be debated.
Cadeyrn was 21 when he inherited Syntech Corporations, and immediately put a large sum of money into the research he had started--his own top-secret project. Finally, when Cadeyrn was 24, a successful host was created--later named Eirian. An operator, the privately famous Erin, was found. She was perfect, and when she died no such success followed. This success is, as well as his own wealth and power, Cadeyrn's goal. Lead Technician Other Technicians [x]

Soo-Yun has an extreme interest in pretty boys, perhaps one of the top reasons why she had joined Syntech in the first place. She prefers to look at them from a distance however, especially after learning about what Syntech does with their celebrities. She also adores felines and has a cat in her apartment. Despite her interest in pretty boys, she seems to particularly hate couples that show their affection in public-- perhaps because she has refused to get a boyfriend on several occasions.
Personality:
A relatively quiet girl that radiates timidness; don't let Soo-Yun fool you into thinking that she's the helpless damsel in distress. While she would prefer to get along with others, she can easily switch into an extremely aggressive personality and force herself into any scene. She is a caged tiger waiting for the nearest idiot to get too close so as to sink her teeth into them. Soo-Yun also has an unique fashion sense that looks good on her, but awkward on others.
History:
With a lawyer father and an architect mother, Soo-Yun and her brother grew up like other "Asian" kids with their parents expecting many (scholarly) things from them. Despite this one similarity, the girl's parents could not stay together and eventually divorced when she was 7 years of age. Her mother, of course, gained full custody over both children and would only allow her ex-husband to see the children on their birthdays.
During her 15th year, her brother finally left the house, proclaiming that he did not want to be a bookworm, but an artist. Since then, he has been living in Europe-- typically off and on in France, Italy, or Greece. This sudden run-away incident seemed to affect her mother greatly and Soo-Yun's education intensified. It was also during this era of her life that Soo-Yun's physique started to come under the spotlight with guys, but because of her mother, she was forced to refuse every potential suitor. It was perhaps this time she began to gain a large interest in pretty boys but abhorred public displays of affection.
Eventually, she finished up her schooling, both high school and college, and found a job with Syntech. At the beginning, it was only because she had been somewhat interested in the reputation of the company-- as well as the beautiful people that gathered there. Since joining, however, she has found a great interest in her own job and though she doesn't seem to be particularly concerned over the well-being of the operators, she wants to maintain the hosts body in as good of condition as she can.

Kathryn's greatest priority has always been the well-being of the operator, and will do all she can to ensure that if harm comes to the host, the smallest amount possible is fed back through to the operator. Outside of work, Kathryn reads quite frequently. She cooks, too, and has an awful tendency to use products made by companies other than Syntech, which sometimes gets her chastized at work but is not enough to get her fired.
Personality:
Kathryn is very outgoing, and would be perfect for recruiting operators. However, she prefers to work in the lab with them. She is patient and thoughtful, with somewhat of a "big sister"-like personality--which is appropriate, as many operators tend to be even younger than herself. Kathryn is eternally curious as to what makes people want to become operators, and can't help but pity the poor souls when their time is up.
History:
If somebody spoken to Kathryn McDonald about ten years ago, she would have never dreamed that she would work with a company like Syntech--Kathryn always thought that she would become a teacher. In fact, she did so. Kathryn had just gotten her first teaching job as a science teacher at a small high school when Eirian hit the scene, and Syntech--an industrial firm Kathryn had read about once or twice--hit the front pages with her.
Really, the company did not have an affect on Kathryn's life until she was 23. Her little sister Becky, five years her junior, had signed some sort of contract with Syntech, but had told Kathryn to keep it a secret. It wasn't long until Becky convinced Kathryn to check out the company. After she realized what her little sister had signed up for, Kathryn was furious. Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do about the contract. Becky had opted to operate Azzurra, so Kathryn joined Syntech and convinced the Lead Technician to let her work with Becky and Azzurra. Kathryn did all she could to extend her sister's life as long as possible, but eventually the stress proved too much for Becky, who did not even make it past age 19.
As a result, Kathryn became obsessed with keeping operators alive. Since she had already signed up with Syntech, there was no way she could leave the company and convince people not to sign up without being terminated. Kathryn works with Azzurra and Liron still, knowing that Azzurra goes through the most operators. For as long as she can remember, dance has been Ariella's life. When she isn't dancing, she's thinking about dancing. Her favorite is ballet, but she'll try almost anything.
Personality:
Even though she has a soft side, Ariella posesses the built-in ego that the majority of performers have. However, she knows what she could risk by getting an attitude at Syntech, so she tends to keep to herself. Her lack of much of a social life, on top of her desire for attention, makes it quite easy for Syntech to work with her, as she will do what she is told to. Ariella finds herself curious about the goings-on at Syntech, as well as the stories behind the hosts and their current and previous operators, but does not express this curiosity.
History:
Ariella first slipped on a pair of ballet shoes at the age of three. Her mother was a dance teacher, so it was only natural that her daughter take up the sport. By the age of six, Ariella was taking ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance classes, and was clearly born a dancer. She kept it up throughout her entire life, and eventually ended up going to a performing arts college, with a scholarship of course.
Because of her lack of free time, Ariella didn't make many friends outside of her dance classes, and most of those girls were very fake. She didn't date, as she was not allowed to miss a single class, and many guys were too intimidated to approach her. Though she never really admitted it to herself, this left her with a huge need for some sort of love, which likely contributed to her eventually joining Syntech.
About three months after she turned twenty, Ariella was going over a heavy routine with her dance partner. It was never really determined whose fault it was exactly--did she jump too soon, or did he not have a good grip?--but somehow the petite brunette ended up falling, the majority of her weight ending up on her pointed right foot. Her ankle was shattered, and when it finally healed the doctor told her she would not be allowed to dance anymore. In one bad movement, her entire life was destroyed.
Ariella moved back to her parents' home as she tried to figure out how to restart her life. It was during this time she came across Syntech Corporations, and Cadeyrn Price. The CEO convinced the girl to take part in his project--she was more than willing to be given the opportunity to dance again. Telling her parents she had joined the advertising team at a big company, Ariella left home and became Azzurra's newest operator.

Being able to see is something that Harvey has longed to do. Without thinking too much into it, if you had told him that you make him see as long as he killed someone, he would do so. Aside from this, Harvey doesn't seem to be particularly interested in anything else-- or perhaps all his other interests become insignificant in comparison to being able to see.
Personality:
Most people are likely to describe Harvey as a very violent and angry person who hates the world. However, this young man only bursts out when someone who can see tries to treat him as though he's different from a normal person-- as you can guess this happens quite often. If you asked him, though, Harvey would probably say that he only actually hates his parents and perhaps himself. The reasons for this hate is quite complex but when it comes down to it, he basically hates being blind. He wants to be considered normal, which is something he has never once attained in his 19+ years of living. In order to gain the normalcy that he wants, he would be willing to do anything; though this definition of normal only covers being human and lacking any physical imperfections that would classify oneself as 'disabled.' Though he does not like being treated as a disabled person, Harvey seems to treat other disabled people similar to how everyone else treats him. Whether he knows of his action consciously or not is somewhat undecided.
History:
Harvey was born with the inability to percieve things through sight. Because of this, his parents were extremely protective of him and still are at the present day. As a child, one of his parents always led him around and made sure that he never wandered more than a couple feet from him. If he fell, his parents would frantically check for cuts and bruises and sound as though they were going to cry. At the age of six, a private tutor was hired in order to teach him personally. This pretty much went on his entire life time and he was allowed very little breathing room until he was about 14 years old. At this age, he was given a seeing-eye dog, but this poor animal only last a couple of months. Harvey was completely unable to go outside-- by order of his parents-- without his seeing-eye dog. The dog became an object to the young man that he was blind and would always be treated as such. The growing frustration and anger for his disability caused him to beat the dog until it eventually tried to run away from its master and was hit by a car as it was crossing the street.
At the present day in time, Harvey is in a special college that helps people with disabilities gain higher education, attending lectures and recieving books in the forms of verbal CDs. The professors like to confine the students that attend the college in order to keep them from hurting themselves, but Harvey has made a few escapes in the past during times like lunch periods. Due to his parents' concern, he carries around a cane to help himself walk by himself. However, despite what most people would like to believe, Harvey is capable of making his way around without the use of his cane. The only thing he needs help with are crosswalks which only light up to tell people to walk. ○ The ideal operator has low self-esteem and will obey the orders of Syntech.
○ The "soul" of the operator is converted to microwaves that are beamed to the host. These waves may be sent anywhere in the world, allowing the host do travel anywhere.
○ Female operators are to be matched up with female hosts; male with male.
○ Operators spend an average of 16 hours a day in their host while their original body sleeps in a pod. The other eight hours are spent taking care of the real body.
○ If enough damage is caused to the host while the operator is occupying it, the damage can feed back to the operator's body.
○ Hosts are outfitted with pain/pleasure implants, electrodes placed beneath their scalp. These are operated by a set of switches in the main control room of the Syntech lab and can be used if the operator gets out of line.
○ The most common cause of operator failure is the operator's sense of self being too strong and the host being rejected.
○ The soul of the operator is the legal property of Syntech Co.
○ Technicians and all other Syntech staff members involved in this project are forbidden from sharing details of the project with any third parties, under penalty of termination.
