Latona knocked on the door lightly and waited patiently for it to open. She took a quick glance around the neighborhood. The houses were small, and made out of red sand bricks. They were beautiful little houses and cozy too. Latona chuckled a bit as she thought about her past and spending her own childhood playing around these very homes. The door opened with a squeak and a blind, elderly woman appeared. "Who is it and what do you want?" she grumbled. Latona chuckled softly and wrapped her arms around her, "It's me, Isis. I've come for a visit."

As they hugged they heard a commotion from down the street. They could hear shouts and people laughing, "beware you all, you are doomed! heed my warning they are coming and we must go stop them before they destroy us!!"

Isis laughed and hugged the young elf back, "My dear it's so good to-" she stopped speaking when they heard the shouts. Latona frowned and looked down the street crowd of people. "Isis... I'll be right back, please take this inside for me..." she handed Isis a small bag. Isis nodded and squeezed Latona's hand, "Don't get into trouble... you've only been home for a few seconds..." Latona chuckled and shook her head, "Don't worry, Isis. I'm just going to check out what's going on."
Latona approached the group, her face was calm and soft as she looked at the one who spoke, "May I ask what you speak of?"

The man shouting turned to her, he looked wild eyed, was sun burnt, his lips parched from lack of water, and was clearly from the north by the color of his paler skin. "Out there!" He pointed east, out into the desert, "out there! They are out there!"
"He's delirious," one man in the crowd jeered.
"He's been out in the sun too long," another said. The crowd laughed at him.
"Why don't you listen to me!?! I tell you I have seen them with my own eyes! I saw them burst forth from the sands and drag down my hole platoon!"

Latona shot a glare at the few who spoke from the crowd. "If he is so delirious and has been out in the sun too long, why haven't you helped him...?" Her face softened as she walked up to the man and handed him a small flask of water, "Where exactly did you see it, sir?"

The crowd kinda mumbled sheepishly and then dispersed and pretended to feel like they had done nothing wrong. The man greatfully chugged down the water. After he had enough to speak again he pointed out into the desert. "Out there. I was a member of an expedition from the Empire, we were exploring the desert when we were attacked all of a sudden by," he shuddered at the thought, "it was terrible!? they came out of nowhere, and before we knew what was happening we were surrounded. We tried fighting our way through, but every time we cut one down another took it's place. My brother's in arms were falling all around me, I fled from the battle. As I heard their screams I turned back long enough to see them being dragged beneath the sand. And then as quickly as it had begun I was all alone.... I walked for 3 days in the desert till I arrived here...."

Latona watched him carefully, and was silent as he spoke. "Three days walk from here... and to the east...?" She frowned as she looked out at the vast desert. "Can you remember what they were, sir? What they looked like? Perhaps I could investigate..." She was quiet again for a moment, "Why did the Empire send out an expedition?"

"To the east. And the creatures....," he gulped, "they were the walking dead! dozens, no! hundreds!"

"The walking dead you say...?" Latona raised an eyebrow as she stared back at the desert. "Interesting... I have never seen anything like that in all my days of exploring... but I have no reason to doubt you..." Latona placed a hand gently on his shoulder, "Would you like me to find a place for you to stay?"

"Thank you, you are a kind girl. There is an Imperial Embassy in this city... some where, do you know where it is?"

Latona nodded and gestured, "I know this city pretty well... would you like me to lead you there, sir?" she tilted her head as she watched him. I'll need to hurry to Isis and tell her what's happened... and then investigate...

"No thank you, I am sure I can find it myself once I know which direction it is in, but girl.... if you are thinking of going out there it is too dangerous, I could not bare to be the cause of..... that fate.....," he shuddered at the thought of it.

Latona smiled at him and patted his back, "I decide my own fate, sir. Please, do not worry and good luck." She bowed and turned back to Isis' little house. She paused before opening the door, thinking about how much she should tell Isis...

Isis smiled when Latona came in and turned from the pot where she was cooking soup. "So tell me about your trip?"
Latona smiled softly and sat down at the small table, "Not much to say... it was very long..." She sighed, "Isis... that man outside... he was talking about 'walking dead'... he said they attacked him and the rest of his group..."
Isis frowned and turned back to her pot, "I see..."
