exclaim Open to the SymxAst family.
.Chapter One.

Over the grand mountains of the north and through the plains; Following the river Peril downstream would bring one upon a grand adventure brimming with discovery. One of these grand discoveries, those who witnessed it might say, would be the colossal tree of the south. The witnesses, however, are few. To this day, there are but five --along with the occasional bypasser who happens upon that which they brush off as something ordinary. But this ancient oak was full to the top with ordinary magic; Especially now, when the chortle of children's laughter could be heard echoing through the hollowed trunks. Here resided Symba, a maned Foundling, quite strange in appearance and a fondness for greenery. And as he used to be the sole resident, he wasn't any longer...

Alongside the maned Foundling, a pink creature gingerly moved about within the hollow tree, three kits running around in between her legs. Astraea's frame was small and delicate, gifted with a set of wings on her back unlike any other. Her entire body was various shades of pink from head to toe to her tufted tail. The unusual thing about this Foundling, aside from her wings, was the blindfold covering her eyes, clearly indicating her blindness. Yes, the mother of three children, was in fact blind but it did not hinder her peaceful lifestyle.

In truth, she was grieved because she'd never be able to see her children but she felt their capacity to love - also a special ability of hers - which lessened her sadness. Yet, it was her only daughter - Akoko - that did not put her mind at ease. This child played like her brothers did, ate and slept like her brothers did, but she did not feel love. Or loved to put it simply. And because of this, Akoko did not love in return.

---

Akoko was aware that she was different from her family.

Anyone in the world could have told her that. Heck, her mother was blind but she still seemed to notice. Her parents were saints - her brothers, well, acted like devils to her, but she knew just the same that they shared a trait with either parent. But not the demos. She felt cursed. Suffocated. The kit knew her parents adored her as equally as possible. But she simply could not return the amount of love they poured out.

What was wrong with her?

But the fact hardly mattered to the kit at this instance in time. She was busy playing with her mother, at least until her annoying brothers showed up. She didn't mean to be greedy. Or selfish. It was second nature to her. Gosh darn, she never had her mother to herself.

Symba stood proud and tall, observing his mate and children. His chest was puffed out in dignity, his small stub of a tail flicking from side to side and disrupting the flowery garment with which he garnished the base of afore mentioned tail. He looked upon them so carefully, taking in every detail. He could see the invisible frown on Astraea's delicate complexion as she turned to their only daughter. There was something strange about their middle child and Symba was not particularly fond of that thought.

However, he could also see the self-doubt upon Akoko's tiny features. He saw it, fully and completely, but had no clue as to what they were to make of it. This whole thing was a mess; Akoko could surely see the doubt in her family's expressions but the maned Foundling had no intention of ever allowing a child of his to feel left out. 'What to do..?'

`

Kamau turned and twisted around his mothers long legs, chasing nothing in particular. His bright, lime colored eyes shone with the scarce rays of light that chanced their way through slight cracks in the hollowed tree that he'd learned to be home. Never were there boring days in his home; Two siblings and just as many loving, attentive parents brought something new with each break of dawn. He was subconsciously oblivious to Akoko's race. They were all equals at this point in his life.

"Be careful," he'd been told by both parents. "Don't venture out too far, we should be able to hear you from wherever you are. You're still young," they'd reminded him. And so where had Hayder been while the rest of them had their leisurely breakfast? Somewhere far, far out of earshot of course. "It's not my fault I gotta go out so far," he had told himself, as though it justified going against his parents' wishes. How could he help it if the flowers he needed were so far out? And he really did need those flowers. It was for his mother, and they were the only ones that would go well with the big blue flowers and crispy green leaves he had collected a few days before. At least, that's what his nose and gut told him. And his heart told him that it was imperative he found them.

"Something's wrong with mama," he had whispered to the dragonflies perched on the surrounding blades of grass. "It's my job to make her better!" The crimson cub had stalked about the meadows for longer than he should have, but his efforts were rewarded with overwhelmind success...and a few bee stings. It had hurt a lot...but Hayder had braved the pain as he carried them back to their tree trunk and snuck them into his secret hollow.

A large leaf held a sloppy mixture of several crushed up forest and meadow flora. It looked like a tree had vomitted (if tress could vomit), but held the most beautiful aroma his nose had ever had the pleasure of sniffing. "This'll make it perfect," he'd purred as he added the fragile petals ever so carefully and then uncermoniously mashed them in with his tiny paws until he was satisfied the goop was globby enough before hurrying back out to join his family.

Sure he had gotten lectured about running off so quick after breakfast, but it had been worth it, especially now that he was happily at Astraea's side. Well...almost. As he tried to pounce his way atop of his mother's back, Hayder's eyes couldn't help but wander over to Akoko, the slighest heat of a glare in them.

It was her.

She was what was wrong with his mom. Akoko was different...weird...or worse! Hayder had noticed she didn't smell like she belonged...and something was wrong with her tail. He had his dad's small fluff of a tail and Kamau had his mother's long, pretty one (something he continually envied about him), but Akoko...Akoko had something far different. And it felt wrong. And he knew his mother felt it too. There was always a worry in her elegant form when Akoko was around that left her muscles tight. The crimson foundling could feel it whenever he nuzzled close and rubbed against her legs.

He knew one day Kamau, being the frist born, would be taken under his father's paw, so he had no worries about his blitheful older brother. But Akoko? She would never have a reason to part from his mother's side...and the thought that his mother would be unhappy the rest of their lives scared him. What if she stopped smiling? What if she left them?! "No," he growled to himself in his head. He couldn't, he wouldn't lose her to some sort of...freak! "I'll be the best son, no, the best child! I'll protect mama from her no matter what!"

Despite her acute senses telling her that Akoko was different, Astraea denied any and all doubt that raced through her otherwise pleasant mind. Thing was, her children were much much smarter than she had previously thought, as the mother vaguely felt the distress in the room as her youngest son grew near. When she frowned, she had no way of knowing whether her children saw or not. Astraea learned to be more careful around them and Symba too. Though it might have been better if her mate knew how she felt, the pink Foundling could not bring herself to tell him. Her daughter was precious to her. Her family was precious to her. The female had no idea what she would do if she were to lose any one of them.

She put on a brave front, turning her head questioningly at Hayder as a very faint scent of flowers entered along with him. "Now where have you been?" She asked gently.

---

Akoko felt a glare boring a hole into her back, a shudder running down her brown backside. There was no need to guess whose glare it was. He was the only one in the family that subtly pointed out something was wrong with her. But she wasn't going to back down to her younger brother. She returned his accusatory look with her own sneer to match as she twisted in and out of Astraea's legs. 'Let's see how he'd like that,' she thought, waving her long, spaded tail at Hayder. Still, her father looked sort of lonely by himself. She ignored her siblings, staring back at her father with a look that was meant to be loving, understanding. ... Though she failed miserably.

Symba was ever so slightly distracted from the dilemma at hand by his oldest son's actions. So joyful and free was he. It should've been illegal to disrupt such joy. Should've. Knowing that Kamau's clever and quick vision would pick up the gesture, he shook his head ever so slightly disapprovingly. After all, Kamau was to take his place as the dominant figure in the pack that was their family.

The maned Foundling found himself worrying too much these days. Worrying about his mate's confusion towards their middle child. Worrying about his oldest son's leadership inheritance. Worrying about heavens know what!

His brows furrowed in frustration, and could respond in no words to Kamau's sudden appearance at his side, so nodded instead. His expression must'v struck as disapproving once more. Another worry. He sighed, returning to watch the rest of his family.

`

Kamau has just left his mother's side to pounce his younger brother, Hayder, before his father gave him a disapproving look. His father did love them all, this much Kamau was sure of, but sometimes the 'first-born responsibility' got overbearing. How he wished to have the freedom of his younger brother; running free with naught but a slight scolding to follow. If Kamau ran off like Hayder, he'd go without a dinner that night for sure. And his father's disapproval would lessen none.

He scrambled to Symba's side, giving his father a reassuring grin, receiving only a nod in return. He then straightened up, trying to imitate his father's stance, and puffed out his chest in an exact fashion. Did he look like a leader?
