Kagen City

User Image

Whether for fun or profit, if you're looking for it odds are you'll find it in Kagen. Everything is for sale here, and that means everything. Yes, even that. A sprawling warren of the best and worst of anything you could desire, Kagen attracts trade from all the known world. It has a reputation as the most open port anywhere, where a small fee will get you a dock space and no questions asked. It is the premier port for slave ships because of this. Run by a council of the most powerful trade guilds, anything and everything is allowed within the city, so long as the money keeps flowing. The Lower City port districts are a din of hawkers and merchants of all kinds and specialties, with pickpockets, grifters, gambling dens, whores, mercenaries, and charlatans sprinkled throughout. The unwary are quickly parted with their coin by many eager hands, and even the more seasoned would do well to watch their words and their wallets closely. The trade guilds take little interest in the barely contained chaos, so long as business can still go on. Some areas in the Lower City are islands of calm in the sea of pandemonium, set aside by various guilds for the trade of specific commodities, usually those of exceptional value or rarity. One such area is Tamaya Plaza, nicknamed the Court of Flesh, set aside for the display, purchase, and exchange of slaves. Here one might find slaves from every corner of the world for any purpose.

The more posh Upper City districts are guarded and patrolled, safe from ruffians and street thugs, but only those sanctioned by the trade guilds who run the city are allowed to enter. Here one might find more refined goods and services, though if you have to ask the price you likely can't afford it. The guilds maintain their own militia, guarding the Upper City districts very strictly and keeping just enough pressure on the Lower City to keep it from falling into outright anarchy.

Tamaya Plaza ~ Court of Flesh
User Image

Nestled in the middle of the lower district lays the Tamaya Plaza, the single largest slave trade operation in known history. Over the years, it has adopted the common slang name the Court of Flesh, by slave traders, and those that pass though its walls. To add to its oddities is its appearance. Shaped like a large bowl, with descending ledges, each ledge with enough room to walk all the way around the circle to all four sections on each level. Each section has a open door, into a room where slaves are kept. Section one and two are for display in the day, and section two and three retain cells for the evening when not on display. Inside the display sections, the wall is lined from one end to the other with numbers counting up. Next to each number is a chain protruding from the wall, which in turn is connected to the poor soul who is being sold, to keep them in place. At the bottom level the best and most expensive slaves are kept, and only hosts 50 slaves max.

Amid the chaos of the rest of the lower district the Court of Flesh is heavily guarded, keeping an almost unreal peace. Despite the fact of is immense size, there are only two entrances to the plaza. The first being the main entrance, located between section one and two, used for those that wish to make a purchase, and the curious eye. Second located between section three and four, used for the slave traders bringing slaves in. Both are heavily guarded with dozens of guards, not to mention the countless ones scattered around the entire plaza.

In the very center sits a raised platform, which seems to be peculiar spectacle. To the left of the platform sits a elegant throne like seat carved from the same stone as the platform, and to the right is a pillar, etched in the same beautiful fashion as the chair; however, it has a chain attached to it. By rumor or seeing, it is common knowledge what the area is used for, the display and auction of either prize slaves as they come in, or slaves that have been there so long that they wish to be rid of them even if it means a slight cut out of their profits. Tutir Skybreaker, seer of the establishment, can be found sprawled out in the chair, his keen eyes darting over everything that moves, or hollering out for bids on which ever poor creature doomed to be tethered near him that day.
