 I welcome you to Chess Basics and Opening 101. This class is for the beginners. The course will start off with teaching you how each piece is moves and then heading on the direction of learning some scholastic opening moves. As for the pace of this class lesson plans are set. On the otherhand the rate that I move depends on you the student. Of course some will take a little longer than I expect and others will take less time than I had anticipated. This class is unlike many where you have grasp the concept now in order to continue to the next one. One skill builds on another. I set the pac I am here to make sure that you do. Of course there may always be a couple who just take a lot longer than others but don't fear. If you need to extra help I'll be glad to assist in anyway I can. By the time we reach opening yall will be able to play full fledge chess games. So I start off welcoming you to my class 3nodding

 You have gotten a quick overview how the class with go and what you will learn here. I will tell you little about myself here.
Here you may call be Professor Storm or Professor Stormstunner. People usually call be Stormy but not sure how well that will work in here. Who knows maybe by the end my name will be totally different. I am quite flexible and it takes a lot to get on my bad side. I am easy person to get along with and also to talk with. Feel free to pm me or post your question or concern on here. Don't be embarassed about the question because there is no such thing. Simple enough you respect me and I shall respect you. We are all here to learn or teach in my case. Most of all we are here to have fun. A little about myself. I am currently in college majoring in business management. I love to play tennis even though I may not be good. If I get it over the net I am satisfied. I listen to all type of music. Their all good to me just like food. I am the worst person to ask about how good food taste in relation to each other. I can only give you a thumbs up or a thumbs down. We all got our preferences. As I said before I am absolutely flexible and cool about almost anything. There is not many things you can say that will offend me. Again I hope yall enjoy the class and have a great time. Don't forget to meet your classmates because they are your classmates afterall. I know that sounded almost repetitive but you understand my point. At the same time these will be the people you play against when it comes time. I say rock on and enjoy 3nodding

Course Materials: Chessboard (Same as a checkerboard) and Chess Pieces

Your Brain (Well thats a given)
If you don't have one you can easily make one. Just get a piece white printing paper and cut a square out of it. Divide the square sheet of paper into 64 equal sqares. Them color every other one black or any color works. As long as you remember they are equivalent to black sqaures. When you finish it should look basically like a checker board.
If you don't have pieces then you cut out slips of paper and write the name of the piece on it.
If that is to much trouble you could just go out there and get yourself a set. They should not be to expensive. You don't have to get the large set a small set will work just as good. If that is to much inconvenience than simply make one. This will only help you reinforce the concepts taught in class and also with the homework problems.
*If all else fails just do it on the computer. Google and find you a nice big blank chess board and copy and paste. For the pieces just draw a circle and type in the name of the piece. That way you move it wherever you want. In fact I would recommend this method. If I have time I may post one that is done but more can be said later*
Class Attendance: This class will have 2 lessons a week and they will be on Tuesday and Thursday. I am not put a set a date that you must attend on Tuesday and Thursday. As long as you come on two days and see both lecture. For the Lesson on Tuesday you must view and post a fact between Tuesday - Saturday. For the Lesson on Thursday you must view and post a fact between Thurday - Sunday. You CANNOT view both lecture on one day and post a fact for both. That would mean you only came 1 day. That will count as only 1 day attendance and 1 day of class participation. To get credit for class attendance on a post say that you are here. Then view the lecture and than on a SEPARATE POST state something you learn. In total, you will make 2 post per day.
Class Participation:This goes hand in hand with class attendance. Class participation includes posting a fact each day from the lecture material and also helping each other out if someone is confused. Sometimes I may not be able to answer the question immediately if I am not on but if one of yall are on please do so. If you are borderline grade and I see that you worked hard I will have no problem giving you the extra 1 or 2 points. This is also a big part of your grade so thats also a another incentive.
Homework: Check homework section. The for that week will be posted on Thursday and due Monday of the next week. You have Thursday - Sunday to complete and turn back in. Through out the week while viewing the lesson you can answer the questions along the way. It ranges from multiple choice to puzzles. Some are straight definations and others require some thinking.
Test: These will be issued by pm and must be sent back by pm. This will give me a good idea of what yall know and whether yall are ready to progress.
Grades: This isn't a pass or fail system just to let me know if you can continue on to the Openings section or end games. Some of yall may start in the opening section so then I will see if you can head on to the Ending section. More information will be given as soon as I can think of it up.
Grade Breakup:
Passing Grade is equivalent to 80%
Homework: 30%
Class Participation:35%
Test:35%
Bonus (Added to your grade):
Earn up to 10 points for the coming to class each day. How this wil determined is the number of days you are here divided the number of days the class has been held. Multiplying that number by 10. At the end of the class you can have a maximum score of 110. So this class isn't to hard to pass especially if you come to class each day. Maybe who knows if you have the highest grade you might be rewarded for your good work 3nodding

 This list is the class roll. Below are all the students enrolled in my class and also their attendance will be recorded here. The first number tells you how many days you have attended and the second number tell you how days of class there has been. If for some reason I have to cancel class for a few days I will have a notice posted on the title. The title will change each day telling what lesson it is today or any special remainder. Also I will pm each of one of you incase you missed it. Also if you are going to be absent please also tell me through pm so I will know and not count you absent. I am sure we can work something out 3nodding
I know the guild will have a form for yall so you can fill out to which ever class you want to join. I would also like you to fill out this form for myself so I can know a little more about you.
