So I've been thinking about redoing, or picking up again, my novel. I finished it about 6 years ago, and I was wondering if anybody wanted to read it and the first half or so of its sequel.

It's about 170 pages, and the sequel is pretty long too. Let me know, I guess. It's fantasy, and hard to sum up. has to do with the nature of existence and all.

Sorry for the short silly post -- I'm burned out from nanowrimo.

All righty. Within the next couple of days, I'll start posting pieces from it. It isn't something I need style critique on, since it's so old and no longer reflective of my work, but story input, favorite characters, etc will be appreciated.

Sorry if it's crap.

Prologue

“Can you feel it?” asked the Voice. The child looked around him, but there was nothing and no one there. Emptiness filled his heart; grief overtook his soul. He realized that he was crying, hot tears streaming down his face, but he had no idea why.
“Feel what?” the little boy sniffed.
“The Darkness, the Nothingness. Can’t you feel it devouring you?”
The boy’s eyes widened. “What are you babbling about?” he sobbed, terrified of the sheer lack of being he felt in this strange, mysterious place. “Where am I? And . . . where are you?”
The Voice replied solemnly, “You are Nowhere. As am I.”
The seven-year-old growled in immature frustration, but fear was the dominant emotion, gripping his small, weak body in its icy hand. The suffocating black Nothingness that surrounded him seemed eager to swallow him up, like the cavernous throat of some huge, ravenous beast. “Show yourself, you. . . you prune ” he demanded, trying desperately to hide the quiver in his voice. “Are you afraid of me? Come out of your ‘Nowhere’ place and tell me where I really am ”
“I told you, you are Nowhere,” the Voice responded, its patience still intact. “There is no real way to accurately describe it further than that, for this place is not real.”
“WHAT?” The boy’s flimsy wall of bravado crumbled around him. He hugged himself tightly, closing his eyes and trying to shut it all out. He couldn’t; it was impossible. Even his own mind seemed a frightening blank.
“Neither are you. Then again,” the Voice gave a sinister chuckle and a shiver raced up the boy’s spine, “nor, I suppose, am I.”
“Liar ” the child screamed, trying desperately to assure himself that it was untrue. His eyes shot open, darting around in hopes of finding someone, anyone. There was only the eternal void of Nowhere, reaching out to him, pulling him deeper. He struggled against it, pleading with it as if it were alive. “No, please, I . . .”
“What is your name, boy?” the Voice asked, seeming warm and welcoming to the child’s terrified ears. Still, he resisted its allure, refusing to give in.
“I am REAL ” the boy cried, though unsure whether it was to the Voice or the shadow itself, both of which seemed to be pulling him deeper into this nightmare. He searched for a happy memory to soothe himself, but found his mind an empty slate. “I’m real . . . or . . . at least . . . I was . . . I think . . . I can’t remember . . . .”
“Your name.”
The boy stopped pulling away from the sudden despair that surrounded him and let it slowly pour into his empty shell. “My name . . .” he whispered, darkness swallowing his shivering form. “I don’t know
it . . .” He felt the Nothingness pulling at him and gave in at last, seeing that he was now part of it and it was part of him.
“You see?” the Voice soothed. “Give yourself up. Be Nothing.”
The boy was silent, his eyes dark and clouded. The Nothingness had him in its terrifying grasp, determined to never release him.
“It’s so much easier to give in, isn’t it?” said the Voice as the boy collapsed and the Nothingness enveloped him totally, eagerly claiming his body for its own. “The last Seven, fading away before my very eyes. Who would’ve thought . . . ” Of course, the boy didn’t know. He didn’t know a thing about what he was, never mind who. However, it no longer mattered what he could have done had he lasted longer. Soon enough, he’d be nonexistent, and all memories of him would fade away.
“What am I now?” the boy mumbled, barely conscious. His voice was weak, but remarkably still there, untainted by the void. The Voice was astonished. This wasn’t supposed to happen. The child was supposed to be silent and fading, a mere figment of the world’s wild imagination.
Mystified as it was, the Voice did not hesitate for a moment. It knew exactly what this boy was, and exactly what he would have to do. Giving him a title was easy.
“You are Seven.”

Will post 1 chapter at a time I guess.

Well, there's not much to say about characters right now, but I'll add my critique nonetheless :3

I'm not gonna judge the content, as I'm sort of not really knowing what's going on, but the beginning seems to lack potential to grip. I'd just sort of sit there with my eyebrow half-raised. I think it's mainly because it's somewhat funny-sounding at the beginning---it's almost uncomfortable and forced.

The description is all in all, present, but there are sections that seem a little too wordy. As I read this, it seems to trip over its own descriptions that were actually made to bring life to the scene, and that's not good. Elegance can be present within a sentence with fair moderation.

But then again, you said this was old or something, so I'm sure you've most likely found this out already.

This is about 5 years old now. I never ever want to edit it. I want to redo the whole thing.
Will post chapter 1 laters.
