Location...: Sunyshore City, Sinnoh. Coordinates...: 4W 19, 4N 4.
Time.........: 3:46 P.M. Date...............: July 18, 20XX

The Lighthouse doors shuddered closed automatically as the duo emerged from the battered building, the structure weakened from the battle that had just ensued. The boy, donning a light blue mechanic's outfit with an orange shirt underneath, shielded his blue eyes from the beating sun as a gentle sea breeze ruffled his brown hair. One of his cut-off black gloved hands rubbed the bright red palm mark that stained his cheek. Turning to the girl next to him, he winced in pain as the material ran over the tender spot.

"Why'd you have to hit me so hard!?" he complained.

Cindy was lost in thought as she exited the Lighthouse beside her companion. The battle that had taken place just moments ago in that Lighthouse was still fresh in her mind. She had been waiting a long time to finally settle the score between the two of them. And now that they had - though admittedly she was a little disappointed with the outcome - she felt relieved. Perhaps even more so at the idea of having her old friend back by her side than finding out who was the better trainer.

Once they were outside, Cindy let the gentle breeze that tousled her auburn hair carry away the thoughts that filled her mind. She let out a sigh of relief and looked up at the cloudless sky, enjoying the warmth of the summer sun on her skin and the sound of the ocean waves rolling on the sandy shore. Sunyshore was a magnificent city; she couldn't think of a more perfect place for this climactic reunion.

Cindy turned her attention back to her friend when she noticed him gingerly rub his cheek. A small grin tugged at the edge of her lips as she recalled the moment after their battle when she - literally - slapped some sense into him.

"Oh, don't be such a baby, Kyle," she teased. "You deserved it after what you put me through. What kind of friend runs away during what was probably the most important event in a trainer's life?" Cindy sighed again, but this time more dejectedly.

"And it wasn't just the match that upsets me," she continued. "We'd been traveling together practically since day one of our journeys. How could you just up and leave me all alone at a time like that? And then, when I finally find you again, I find out that you've been on another journey in a whole new region all by yourself. I just hope that red mark becomes a permanent reminder for you to not be so selfish and try a stunt like that ever again."

Kyle opened his mouth to begin to speak, but thought better of it and closed it until Cindy finished her "scolding." Interrupting her during one of these mini-tirades, he had learned, was not the best idea, especially when they'd been younger, and, though he hated to admit it about himself, a bit bratty.

"I'm just glad it's not COMPLETELY permanent." Kyle smiled, dropping his hand from his cheek. "And I'm sorry I left. I just needed to protect my sanity, is all. You were living the high life, surrounding yourself with all that fame and glory, while the reporters and fans and girls standing outside the hotel half-naked except for a bath towel screaming for me to marry them were driving me insane." He chuckled a bit at the recollections, then gazed out over the ocean, fingering Typhlosion's Pokéball absentmindedly.

He'd been traveling with a small group of people during his Sinnoh adventure, but the rest of the group had decided to stay for a small break at the Resort near Lake Valor, while he continued on towards Sunyshore. Once there, broke and hungry, he'd wandered around town battling anyone he came across. It wasn't until his third or fourth day that he met up with Jasmine, who was vacationing in the city for a while, having left the Gym in the hands of her brother, Xavier. By then, he'd been sick as a dog, and his clothes he'd worn for several years were no longer wearable. She'd taken him in, and nursed him back to health while he contemplated his life since he left Johto.

"It is nice to see you again, after this...year and a half, is it?" Kyle asked, turning to Cindy. He looked at her closely for the first time, since he'd been too anti-social to really take notice of any differences. "You got taller."

"Yeah, well...I guess I did get a bit carried away back then. It's safe to say we were both young and stupid and we handled that situation poorly - different, but definitely poorly. Cindy sighed and both were silent for a couple of seconds before something Kyle had said finally registered in her brain.

"Wait a minute. Fan girls? What fan girls!? You didn't tell me about any "half-naked" fangirls! And where were my "half-naked" fan boys? No strapping young men came knocking on my door..." she trailed off, muttering to herself about the injustice of it all. "I'm always getting gipped. Man, what a rip off! Guess that's what happens when your reach the Pokemon League at only thirteen."

Cindy must have been muttering quietly enough to herself to keep the conversation one-sided because Kyle changed the subject. She stored away what she had just been complaining about to bring up at a later date and replied, "Yes, I guess I did have a bit of a growth spurt. I'm not a little kid anymore, that's for sure."

Cindy looked Kyle up and down once, taking in the new him. He had certainly changed a lot too. "You look really different too. You got a little taller also, I see. And bigger, in general. You've got like, muscles now and stuff. Gosh, it's like you just skipped your teens and turned into an adult!" Cindy smiled and chuckled happily. She looked up and locked her eyes on his, taking in his facial features.

"Mmm, but your face is still the same. I didn't have any trouble recognizing you when I came here. Even after a year and a half, I'd know that face anywhere."

"Muscles?" Kyle asked. He hadn't noticed. Pulling up his left sleeve, he flexed the arm, feeling the sinew and muscle around his bicep and tricep. "Aw, how do you like that?" He then nonchalantly made different flexing positions, as if to show off to Cindy, but doing it only teasingly. To think he'd gone from slightly toned to almost muscular without even thinking about it...

Afterwards, he heard Cindy talking about his facial complexion. "Yeah, I guess. Some things just never change, huh?" He drew his attention to Cindy's face as well. "You unbraided your hair. And you look a little pale. Have you been getting enough sun?" Laughing, he swept his hand over the city, which you could see clearly from the hill on which the Lighthouse was perched.

"Although I bet you'll get plenty of that here. You remember Jasmine? I've been staying with her for a while. I'm sure you can hunker down there for a while, too, if you need it."

"The braids were starting to feel a little childish," she replied, combing her fingers through the long auburn locks. "And I'm not surprised I'm so pale. I spent a lot of time up near Snowpoint while I was looking for you. It's a long, hard, and bitter-cold trek up that Mt. Coronet. And getting back down was no picnic either. I must have spent at least two weeks up there in that ice cap." Cindy unconsciously rubbed her arms at the thought of the icy blizzards she had marched through. "That was not fun. At least I remembered to dress warmly though.

Her eyes followed Kyle's hand as it swept over the city. She gave a small smile and replied, "The sun is a welcome change. It's lovely here. I just wish I'd looked here first, instead of going all the way up north and back down. Too bad I realized that a little late. Oh well." Cindy remembered Jasmine very well. That gym battle was definitely easier for Kyle than it was for her with his Typhlosion. She didn't know Jasmine had a place out here until she arrived in the city.

"Yeah, it's how I actually found you. Once I got here and heard that Jasmine had a place out here, immediately I knew you'd probably be with her. But enough of that, let's head back there now. It's been an eventful day and an even longer journey just trying to find you. I need to settle down somewhere for a little while. It feels like our Pokemon journey all over again - just constantly moving everyday. I hate to say this, but I think I'm getting too old for this kind of thing. Or, at the very least, I'm getting tired of it. Settling down really sounds wonderful at this point." Cindy turned to Kyle and asked him, "Do you think that's a possibility in our near future? Settling, I mean. Or is there still some crazy adventure left for us before that happens?"

"Hey, I made that journey, too ya know!" Kyle said indignantly, opening his badge case and showing it to Cindy, displaying his eight Sinnoh badges next to his Johto badges.

"Possibility, yes. Likely, no." Kyle smiled, starting to walk away, motioning for Cindy to follow. "Maybe someday we'll retire, in the mountains. I hear there's a nice place in Fiore called Wintown that would be perfect, albeit a little cold. Or maybe a nice warm place. With a beach. Maybe Slateport in Hoenn, I hear it's pretty nice..."

"The cold doesn't bother me too much, so long as I'm not waist-deep in snow," Cindy commented. She forced back a smile as she remembered having literally been waist-deep in the snow - perhaps even more than waist-deep - when she was traveling up to Snowpoint. "In fact, I kind of like cooler weather. The heat gets tiring after a while. But I don't really know anything about the Fiore region, except basically that it exists. I've only been around the Johto, Kanto and Sinnoh regions so far. I think I'm up for a trip to Fiore though, or any new region really. If we aren't ready to retire yet, I say we make that our next adventure."

((OOC: I was leaving it open since I don't know if we really "finalized" our plans for Cindy and Kyle yet. I know we talked about maybe Orre or a new region, but we could also do Fiore if you'd like. Problem is, I haven't played Pokemon Ranger yet. But I really want to and plan on getting the game as soon as I can. But for right now I only know what I've read about it online))

"Well, we'll have plenty of time to decide about that." Kyle smiled. To tell the truth, Cindy's company was actually a nice change, since the only person he'd talked to lately was Jasmine, who was usually too busy looking at whatever the heck those "pictures" she said she saw around him were.

For some reason, Jasmine had the ability to see parts of people's destinies in the form of vague pictures around them. For instance, If she saw someone who would eventually become a Ranger, she would see a Capture Styler. If two people walking down the street who had never seen each other before had rings above their heads that interconnected when they passed, she could tell that they would eventually get married.

Kyle pondered what Jasmine had told him that morning.

"There are two pictures that figure the most prominently in your life right now,"
she had said. "The shattered crown, and a pink banner flecked with flakes of gold and intertwining branches. The shattered crown means something along the lines of becoming some kind of royalty, or person of high status, only to have it taken away. The other one is unmistakable. You will be reunited with an old friend, and soon, too..."

Jerked out of his thoughts by a questioning glance from Cindy, Kyle pulled himself back to the present. "Since you haven't been here that long, I'm assuming you still need to beat the Sunyshore Gym. It's the last one on the Sinnoh League. Then you just Surf North and pass Victory Road and it's to the Pokémon League. You were collecting badges during your quest, right?"

Cindy smiled and nodded. "Of course I have! Have you ever known me not to challenge the gyms in a new region?" Cindy had found the gyms in this region to be by far the most challenging she had faced. But she was never one to turn down a challenge, especially one that tested her abilities as a Pokemon trainer. Now she was only one badge away from qualifying for the Pokemon League in this region. And, she would have her old friend by her side to cheer her on.

"I think I need to rest up before I challenge the gym leader here though. One big match is enough for today, I think," she said, referring to the match that had just taken place between the two of them. "My Pokemon are totally wiped after that. I need to get them to a Pokemon center. And then maybe get some food in us. It's been a long journey and, being by myself, I didn't take anytime to rest or relax. I was too hell-bent on finding you." Cindy sighed and turned her attention away from Kyle to the bright blue, cloudless sky above.

"Let's just enjoy the rest of today without anymore battles. Tomorrow I'll challenge the gym here."

"Aww...you make me feel so special." Kyle teased as Cindy mentioned how hard she had looked for him. "But I am glad that you found me. If you hadn't, who knows how long I would have gone on being all emoish here. You're just what the good doctor ordered."

"But still...are you sure you're ready to take on the Sinnoh League? Since I left you hanging, you probably still have some loose ends to tie up back in Johto, right? I mean, since I backed out?"

Cindy snorted and shook her head at the thought of an "emo" Kyle. It didn't seem likely he actually acted that way while she was gone; it just didn't suit him. But then again, she couldn't really know what Kyle was really like while she wasn't there. Still, she imagined he probably was living a pretty reclusive life out here. And it was sweet to know he was happy to have her here to bring him out of it.

Then he changed the subject back to Johto and she was serious again. "Yeah, well...I'll admit I may be avoiding some things back in Johto. I plan to deal with them, eventually, but I didn't really want to do it by myself. It's actually a small part of the reason I came here looking for you. It was a good scapegoat for me too. But I've put it off this long, what's a little bit longer? Besides, what else am I going to do with these seven badges? I might as well finish while I'm this close to the end right?"

"True, true. But knowing those impatient old farts back at the Plateau, they've probably found somebody to pick up your slack by now. And it couldn't hurt for us to have some quality time alone, could it?" he asked, slightly bumping her with his elbow. Kyle didn't even have to look at Cindy to imagine the look that would be spreading across her face. "Not like that. I mean, you know, catching up and stuff. How've your folks been? Or mine, for that matter? Jeez, I need to call my mom sometime."

As Kyle started his ramblings and reminisces about home, the two descended the stairs from the Upper section of Sunyshore and started strolling down the central path that lead to the wharf. He was planning on showing Cindy the small shop where you could buy stickers to go on your Pokéballs, although he wasn't sure what Cindy was really interested in anymore, since they'd been separated for so long.

"Anywho, I'm sure Prof. Elm would like to know how his Pokémon are doing. Speaking of which, heard from Landon lately? Haven't seen him since right before...yeah." He trailed off, knowing Cindy knew what he was talking about.
PostPosted: Sun May 10, 2009 7:03 pm

((OMG...I'm having a total brain fart right now. I'm sorry to have to ask, but Landon? It isn't entirely my fault though! My friend is like writing this book and I'm sorta helping her and the main male character's name is Landon. So now that's all I'm able to associate that name with xp ))
