Located in the darkest alley in Zarix, Épées et Plus (Swords and More) was known for its artistic crafting of functional pieces... for a price. The building itself was an exquisite piece by a master architect with its sinuous lines, marble façade, and arching windows. At first glance, it looked far from a weapon shop despite the sign proudly boasted with its imagery of twin rapiers crossed over a fleur de lis with the words ‘Épées et Plus’ etched beneath. However, upon passing through the carved double doors and into the main display room that dominated the only floor of the building, it would be hard to ignore its status as the only weapon shop of Zarix.
The walls and floor were drab browns in color so as to not detract from the beauty of the pieces displayed in cases or stands along the walls and even in racks upon them. Weapons and armor alike were placed on display, though of course pieces could be custom made for the customer on request. Though Épées et Plus was the supplier for the Military Academy of Infercia at one time, before the owner closed shop and moved, Said owner of Épées et Plus dedicated every moment of his free time to creating extraordinary pieces for the citizens of the Zarix with his extraordinary gift of weaponsmithing now, knowing full well they were the very people he once made weapons to kill.. Each blade was hand-crafted with care and was unique in appearance, being made from billet-forged steel – leftover pieces from other goods that have been recycled to create something new and beautiful. No two pieces were alike.
Towards the back of the room was a long counter, behind which one of the clerks stood, ready to assist a customer with any questions they might have or purchases they’d like to make. Upon entry to the store, one would be greeted brightly by the clerk on duty.
Around back was the forge where the weapons and armor were specially made. Sounds of hammering could often be heard long into the darkening after most others had already gone to sleep

Goods & Services: (note – simple leather scabbards are included with blade purchases)
Rapiers The rapiers are the specialty here and are some of the most beautiful blades to be found anywhere. Customizations available on request.
* Basket-hilt Rapier – 130 g o This blade features an extra guard to protect the finger when one uses a grip where the forefinger passes over the outside arm of the cross (a grip that lends better control, especially when parrying). The blade is 35” in length. * Swept-hilt Rapier – 135 g o This rapier features an elaborate bar cage hand guard and a 36” blade. * Bone-handled Rapier – 150 g o This rapier sports the traditional narrow blade along with the diamond cross section, though the grip is made of bone wrapped in silver wire. It has a feel of extreme lightness to it, being a full pound lighter in weight than the swept-hilt and basket-hilt. The blade is 37” in length. * Cup-hilt Rapier – 140 g o This rapier features a full bowl hand guard, 10.5” cross guard, wire-wrapped handle, and 35” blade. * Double-cage Rapier – 135 g o This rapier features both a cage hand guard and a sword-catcher. A little heavier than the other rapiers, it is more suited to one who is already skilled in using these quick but deadly swords. The blade is 36” in length. * Fluted-cup hilt Rapier – 145 g o This rapier is almost identical to the cup-hilt rapier, except that the bowl hand guard on this sword is fluted instead of smooth, lending a more artistic feel to the piece. The blade is 35” in length. * Half-basket Rapier – 125 g o The name of this rapier pretty much says it all. Instead of the traditional full basket, the sword only sports a half-basket that curves over the top of the hand. The blade is 36” in length. * Ring-hilted Rapier – 145 g o The hilt of this rapier is purely artistic – while still remaining functional – with a series of swooping rings serving in place of the traditional basket. The different design serves no extra purpose except to be pleasing to the eye. The blade is 35” in length.
Other Swords Swords other than rapiers are also sold at Épées et Plus.Customizations available on request.
* Sabre – 130 g o A heavy sword with a slightly curved blade and a long cutting edge. Works well as a cavalry weapon. The blade is 32” in length. * Cutlass – 120 g o A short, thick sabre with a slightly curved blade that is sharpened on the cutting edge. The hilt can either be solid-cupped or basket-shaped on request. The blade is 26” in length. * Basket-hilted Claymore – 155 g o The basket-hilt of this sword is lined with red velvet – a distinguishing feature that sets it apart from other basket-hilted swords. The 32” blade is double-edged. * Falchion – 125 g o This sword has a broad blade, thick along the spine and sharpened on the convex curve of the blade. It is used primarily for slashing and chopping. The blade is 24” in length. * Longsword – 150 g o This sword is long and straight with a double-edged 38” blade and a leather-wrapped wooden grip. It can be wielded with one or two hands. * Shortsword – 125 g o Shorter than a longsword but longer than a dagger, this sword is wielded with one hand. Its blade is 27” in length and is double-edged. Works well for slashing and thrusting.
Daggers Though the selection of daggers is not as extensive as the selection of rapiers, great pride is took in all the pieces created for Épées et Plus, for they are all superbly made and perfectly balanced. Customizations available on request.
* Stiletto - 45 g o This dagger is perfect for decoration or function with its polished hilt of silver and darkened wood in a spiral design and its 10" blade that tapers into a wicked point. Light and slender, the stiletto is a stabbing weapon that can easily pierce through gaps in armor or be hidden on one's person -- a favorite among assassins and diplomats alike. * Rondel - 65 g o This dagger is heavier in weight and thicker in body than the delicate yet dangerous stiletto. With a 12" blade that is 1" in width at the base, the blade sports a round hilt made from polished wood in a number of different colors that has been carved in a spiral design for both aesthetic appeal and a more secure grip. * Main Gauche - 65 g o This dagger appears almost as a cross between a stiletto and a rondel, being thicker than the former and yet thinner than the latter. An 11" double-edged blade meets with a wire-wrapped handle and a pommel in a simple "acorn" design. This blade is usually used by fencers in their left hand in order to parry the thrusts of their opponent's rapier and can also be used offensively. * Flame Dagger - 90 g o This dagger is one of the most unique in appearance due to its "flame-like" or curvy 8" blade. Beautiful but deadly, this blade also comes with a hilt made from polished wood in a number of different colors that has been carved in a spiral design.
Axes In a nod to the tradition of great Axe-men, Épées et Plus offers a small selection of such weapons.Customizations available on request.
* Francisca - 60 g o The Francisca is an ancient weapon used by residents in the region for ages. It is an Axe meant to be thrown. The axeblade is 4 inches long with a shaft of 16 inches. * Jaedaxine Francisca - 180 g o The Jaedaxine Francisca is a more modern variation designed to be either thrown or used mêlée. The added versatility comes at the cost of range. The axe blade is 6 inches with an 18 inch shaft.
Crossbows Customizations not available.
* Light Crossbow - 200 g o The Light Crossbow is a smaller version than most bows available. At 15 inches in length is more easily wielded than many other bows. It uses a simple pull lever cocking system. * Heavy Crossbow - 400 g o The Heavy Crossbow is a remarkably powerful variant of the normal crossbow. At 30 inches in length it requires much more careful handling. It uses a more powerful but cumbersome push level cocking system. * Cranequiner - 550 g o The Cranequiner is a new development that allows a crossbow to be used on horseback or be reloaded while holding something else. It is less powerful and is smaller at 25 inches in length, but sports a gadgeteer-inspired crank driven cocking system. * Crossbow Bolts - 75 g Sold by the score with twenty bolts to a score, though a single bolt can be purchased for 5 g apiece. It is more cost effective to just purchase the whole score. * Deluxe Recurve bow. 200G o A luxurious 60" bow crafted of top-quality materials. The handle has a simple shape but has laminations in exotic and American wood, such as padouk, maple, and Daniela walnut. Crafted of high-quality wood and glass, the limbs have a matte transparent finish. The brass bushing of the limb guarantees mounting and fixing to the handle. Right hand only. * Recurve Bow 90g o The recurve bow is the exclusive Olympics bow and is very good for rookie archers. It is often made from laminated carbon or fiber-glass. * Reflex Bow o The reflex bow is a small yet powerful bow and is made such that until it is strung, the bow ends have a forward projectile rather than backward one. * Self Bow o The self bow is one of the most basic and traditional bows in archery. It is usually made from a single piece of wood and hence is fairly light in weight. The speed factor can be improvised with use of firmer strings. * Straight Bow o As the name implies, the straight bow is straight and is usually made from laminated fiber-glass or carbon. * Longbows o Longbows are made only from wood. They were used prominently by early Britain archers during combat. * Composite Bow o A composite bow is made from different materials and laminated together to take advantage of each used material. It is said that recurve bows are subsets of nearly all composite bows. The construction of these bows do take time but they are also very powerful. * Compound Bow o The compound bow is one of the most modern and technically advanced bow. Pulleys and cams are usually used to draw the limbs back. This bow is much more powerful and efficient than recurves or longbows with its speed generating abilities.
Arrows: * Wooden Arrows This type of arrows are of course light in weight. They are generally used by beginner archers and with longbows. * Fiber Glass Arrows These arrows are sharp and usually used in hunting however fiber glass arrows are fragile and can break easily. * Aluminum Arrows Aluminum arrows can be very precise and effective. They are available in a wide range of sizes though are expensive than some of their counterparts. These bows are most commonly used in archery tournaments. * Carbon and Aluminum Carbon Arrows The carbon and aluminum carbon arrows are speedy and precise. They are very good at maintaining trajectory. These bows are used in serious archery tournaments and are very expensive to buy.

Armor The armor of Épées et Plus is of the highest quality and made of billet-forged steel. Customizations available on request. * Cuirass - 115 gc o Split into two pieces with the front piece covering the chest and the other protecting the back, the cuirass is attached with leather straps. Of medium weight, this upper body armor is the standard of the Jaedaxia Protectorate. * Gorget - 55 g o A steel collar meant to protect the throat that is worn over the clothing but beneath the other armor. For an extra 40 gc, one can have a bevor which is a movable piece of sorts that protects the mouth and sailet, which is a closed helm with a slit. Sold alone, the bevor and sailet are quite a bit more expensive. * Chainmail Shirt - 90 g o A type of armor made from many small rings fitted together to form a mesh. Very effective, chainmail serves as an excellent guard against the slicing edge of a blade and the piercing danger of an arrow. * Coif - 75 g o Made of chainmail, the coif covers the entirety of the head (excluding the face) and the shoulder. Many wear a coif beneath their helmet for added protection. * Casque - 60 g o Also known as a "nasal helm," the casque is a conical helmet with an extended piece that covers the nose -- a simple yet effective design. * Chausses - 90 g o Chainmail covering for the legs that is secured with ties about the waist that can attach to a belt or other such item. Effective against slashing weapons, though they will not protect you from feeling the full power of a crushing blow. * Greaves - 80 g o Of the half-greave variety (only covering the front of the leg, ie. the shin), these pieces of metal are secured with leather straps and protect the lower leg from most harm. Sold in pairs. * Gauntlets - 65 g o Sold in pairs, gauntlets are protective gloves made of chainmail due to the added flexibility. * Bracers - 45 g o Sold in pairs, these bracers are made of hardened leather with steel reinforcement and can serve either to protect the outer arm and wrist from attacks, or in the case of archers, protect the inner arm from being cut by the string. * Sabatons - 45 g o Sold in pairs, these pieces of armor are made from steel plates and cover a person's foot. They have a tapered toe that ends well past the actual foot of the wearer. * Cuissess - 80 g o Steel armor made for protecting the leg (from the thigh all the way over the shin). It is not as flexible as the chainmail and so, is not as easy to maneuver in, but they are very effective at what they were designed to do.
